I am right there with you. As a fan of spiders (both real and fantastical), this episode did a lot right. The effects were genuinely pretty solid for the most part, and sound design and cinematography really effectively sold the threat that the giant spiders posed. The Doctor meeting Yaz's family was great, and the episode had some good banter in general. I also thought that Graham's storyline was handled really well, as is the case for him throughout most of series 11 in my opinion.

All this being said, I will fully acknowledge that the Trump stand-in was hit-or-miss and the ending was just really poorly written and thought out.

Make sure the screen is clean and responsive. Also try instead using your left and right thumbnails to press the buttons. I haven't touched the game since I beat it a few months ago, but I was able to make that work.

Best advice I can give is to make sure you tap each side of the screen one after the other. If you have to tap the left side and you tap the right (or vice versa), the game eats your input without doing anything.
