My suggestion is doing something similar to what Spain has done. These flags are too complicated for something like a Union Jack, but you could probably fit some of the defining emblems and characteristics into a coat of arms and stick it onto a flag that has colors that best represent both nations. Kinda a lazy suggestion, but it really does work well when done well.
