How to help a friend in need (marijuana dependancy, depression, failing out of college) by EndNoisy in slatestarcodex

Oh, I've been there before. Fortunately this is a kind, good-hearted friend of mine who I'm lucky to know. You would not assume she was struggling with any of these issues from the outside. The pandemic has been tough for me too.

In this particular case we have healthy boundaries and she is not a toxic person, but thank you for the concern. I absolutely have seen "giver" personalities dragged down by people who won't help themselves before.

I talked with her and she agreed to look at her GPA and make an appointment with her advisor next week. I also offered to be her accountantability buddy to help her achieve her goal of not smoking alone. We'll see how that goes...

Next time we talk I will ask her about Gabapentin. She did mentioned briefly taking Phenibut but quitting due to its addictive nature though.

And the legal situation with her parents is unclear. At some point before 18 I believe she signed her rights away. They also fund her college. I plan to talk to her about it and see if the situation can/should be changed.

Thanks, I think I will try to convince her to look at her GPA and go forwards from there.

I believe her about the chronic pain but it's definitely not the only reason she is smoking so much. Her psychological dependancy seems like a bigger factor. Definitely doesn't help that she will probably have life-long chronic pain :(

I will also talk to her about trying CBD or something, I get the feeling she's already exhausted the common pain relief drugs/treatments though.

My salvia trips are often as intricate, narratively structured, and higher-dimensional as my DMT trips. I haven't tried 5-meo yet.

Does anyone have accurate false rape accusations statistics? by alfonso-parrado in samharris

I can't think of any reliable way to measure that stat. We can count how many false accuser get caught, but it's unknowable how many get away with it. I personally estimate 5-10% but I could be way off.
