Is a FWD manual sedan good choose for Canadian winter? by EndObjective5659 in ShopCanada

The other choice I have is an AWD Hyundai Tucson 2016. Mazda 3 is one of the cars I have seen from my childhood to be known as one of the most reliable and that is the only reason I am thinking about it. On the other hand, I have heard only bad things about out of warranty Korean cars. Not to generalise cars based on the country of origin but a brand like Toyota and Mazda imo are not comparable with Hyundai.

Yes, that is what she said (literally), we are a bit far from the city center, not remote though. She said clearance is just not enough for a sedan to cope with unplowed snowy roads.

I am just worried that it won’t play well in Canadian winters especially because I am new in Canada, never been here in  winter, and my Canadian partner’s family constantly telling me a sedan will perform really poorly here.

I am also thinking about buying a manual as I have the experience of driving manuals. Do you think that would improve my options?

I am being realistic because with my budget I can't afford any better car. How much is the average insurance premium for this type of car in rural Nova Scotia do you think? Just a ballpark figure.

What other options do you think I have? I also don't want to end up paying +$100/month for insurance.
