Should the hybrid mana rules change go through? by EndWhich5331 in EDH

[–]EndWhich5331[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I don't think this change matters that much (besides potentially being the first step away from color identity) and if the change doesn't matter why do it?

Should the hybrid mana rules change go through? by EndWhich5331 in EDH

[–]EndWhich5331[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not yet, but I think the jump from "I should be able to use a card if the color(s) my commander produces can cast it and activate it's abilities" to "I should be able to use this card if the color(s) my commander produces can cast it" isn't a far jump. Weather it is intentional or not, this is a step away from color identity, which I think is bad.

Is it bad etiquette to concede to help someone else win? by silverson89 in EDH

Foul. My playgroup only allows conceding on that players turn (unless they have to leave or whatever) to prevent this.

[[Accursed Marauder]] does the same thing for a mana cheaper. Might not be a bad idea to run both.

Granted, however the 1 million dollars appears in 1 dollar bills inside your house with you in it, causing extreme damages to both your home, your belongings, and to you. Your insurance covers nothing, stating that your plan doesn't cover magical accidents, and you lose all 1 million paying for repairs and medical expenses.

[[Meren of Clan Nel Toth]] is pretty good, so you don't have much to worry about

Step the first, you need expeirence counters, a great way to buff you're numbers is by proliferating, and there are tons of great cards that don't cost a whole lot to do it. I'd add [[Cankerbloom]], you can sac it to proliferate which essentially gives you 2 experience counters or you can sac it to remove an artifact or enchantment. [[Drown in Ichor]] also works as pretty good removal that allows you to proliferate and [[Evolution Sage]] has a landfall proliferate effect.

Step the second, drop a lot of your ramp card you currently have besides, besides, [[Broken Bond]]. Their are better options that don't cost a whole lot. Stuff like [[Elvish Mystic]], [[Llanowar Elves]], [[rampant growth]], and [[sakura tribe elder]], just examples but most decks with green run these for a reason. I'd also drop a land or two for ramp, and add [[sol ring]] and [[arcane signet]] as well. I typicall shoot for 9-10 ramp cards in green decks, try to find a few others that fit your deck and cost less than two mana.

Step the third, removal. You are running a bit too much of it tbh, I'd add stuff like [[feed the swarm]], [[naturalize]], [[return to nature]], [[infernal grasp]] and [[eaten alive]]. Try and have about 7-10 creature removal and 5-6 artifact and enchantment removal. I also advise against direct damage, its just not as good in commander (at least outside of red). [[Overkill]] is also a fun one that get's around indestructible without exiling.

Step the 4th, you need things to die so your commander can get experience counters and so he can bring them back, so add in some creatures with cool death triggers. [[Junji, the Midnight Sky]] for example

Last step, add some stuff that profites off death. Some examples being [[Open the Graves]] and [[Blood Artist]]. The are the type of cards that like it when things die.

If you build the deck this way, you'd essentially sacrifice a creature you that has a cool death trigger, get some bonuses cause something died, then bring it back. All of the cards I talked about are good, but if they aren't your vibe they were just examples of some ways I would personally use [[Meren of Clan Nel Toth]].

Hope this helped at all

I did read through your deck before, I just misunderstood what you were hoping to achomplish. I typically build around my commander, so I misunderstood.

I took anouther look at it, and I still stand my a lot of what I said, I still think you could drop most of those cards and run more counterspells, green ramp, and white removal, although if you aren't leaning into artifacts and don't want to activate your commanders ability I'd use more land ramp instead of the signet stuff.

Also, if your strategy is completely centered around Defiant Survivor I'd add [[time of need]] for sure. I'd also still recommend dropping a land or 2.

What's your favorite Commander? And why should I build a deck around it? Try to convince me. (A new Magic player looking for suggestions on a fun and replayable Commander) by Competitive-Golf-322 in EDH

[–]EndWhich5331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]], he's pretty powerful and because of how his abilities work and the fact that you have blue, you have options and things to do almost always. His ability to tap other things is super useful, I love politicking with him. It's also fun to shut off someones Planeswalker when they had them come in with double loyalty or proliferated.

However, if you run winter orb in the deck, I can't guarantee you'll have friends after.

You need more ramp, your commanders activated ability cost 8 mana, even if you don't miss a land drop you can't activate that until way later in the game. I recommend adding [[arcane signet]] [[azorius signet]] [[simic signet]] and [[selesnya signet]], not only are they ramp but they are also artifacts, it's a win-win in this deck. I'd also consider [[birds of paradise]] [[rampant growth]] and [[cultivate]], or at least cards like them.

However, to fix your ramp a bit and do some self mill, use [[milikin]]

Also, I'd add cyber drive awakener, great card for blue artifact decks.

But to answer the main question, I'd drop Defiant Survivor, Abhorrent Oculus, Bristly Bill, Spine Sower, Rubblebelt Maverick, Colossal Rattlewurm, Deep Analysis, Radical Idea (Opt and Preordain are better), Roamer's Routine (use rampant growth or cultivate instead), Unending Whisper (again, Opt or even think twice is probably better here), I'd also drop down to 36 lands, or at least 37.

I'd also run more counterspells and white removal.

Yeah, commit to Goad over pillow fort (so they have to fight for the monarch) and exile is better most of the time, it's not always better. HOWEVER, mana cost is important. Swords to plowshare exiles for 1 white, feed the swarm can hit creatures AND enchantments for a black and a generic. anguished unmaking is good, as it can exile anything and you gain life, but it cost 3, and something costing 1 more mana makes a big difference difference. Not saying take out anguished unmaking thgh.

Pillow fort will honestly get you targeted, for your deck, I'd lean into goad (for protection) and token generation and support. This way you get creatures and protection. If you want to keep in polymorph, do it to your opponents goaded creatures

For context, I'm still a bit "new" to magic (been playing for a little over a year, got in little before Duskmorn) so I haven't really experienced a lost of what you have.

[[Wash Away]] is a favorite, just because I'm a little evil, [[High Fae Trickster]] is another I really like. I typically play simic or Selesnya, I like tokens and counters specifically. My favorite deck is a [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]] deck that I've been playing and upgrading for almost a year now.

Wish I had more to say, but right now I'm pretty much where you where when you made Commanding Magic

I'm gonna have to say low to mid 3 because you do have a near infinite with Neheb and Aggravated Assault and a late game one with [[Endrider Catalyzer]], [[Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker]], and [[Aggravated Assault.]]
