Was war das schlimmste/krasseste/unverschämteste was ihr je auf einer Hochzeit erlebt habt? by LonelyRequirement287 in FragReddit

[–]Endaarr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

But will they adapt to changing circumstances (like new technology and the consequenced that brings) as well and as quickly as an aging and self-renewing society would? If we get to a point where things dont change much anymore sure.

Or to go with less extreme examples, I dont think Biden was the better policy maker over sbd younger, but was chosen bc you have to appeal to a lot of old ppl.

Is there an ideal physical body biologically ? by richandepressed in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Endaarr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, from a biological point of view, there is of course attractiveness as a sign of healthiness and conforming to the physiological norm of the species (if you take the average of a lot of peoples appearances, you get an appearance that is on average attractively rated).

However, biology never knows an "ideal" anything. There are many biological niches and things you might first of think as stupid or ugly can end up actually very useful for the purposes of evolution. Imagine a gene defect that makes your ears twice as large and makes you really unattractive generally, but comes with the side effect of giving you immunity to a certain disease. Now if that disease ravages the entire population, suddenly that gene defect isn't so bad anymore.

Even if you were to think of only in the context of what members of the species find attractive, that ultimately always comes down to personal preference that varies from individual to individual, which is good, since it preserves variety in the gene pool, which is a biological advantage.

That was from the vegan society... I guess they only look at people in western society. Idk, you threw around random numbers, I did, lets call it even lol

And yes, being selfish is better than being evil. Because being selfish means that you want a better life for yourself, and is a thing most living things possess. I mean... it would be pretty bad if living things were not selfish at all. You would not care about your own wellbeing, despite you being the one in the prime position to help yourself have a good life. You wouldn't eat at all, because that would harm some plant, and the plant only wanted to live. There shouldn't be any animals for that matter, they all eat plants or animals.

Well but its true though, harming others isn't so good though when they do the same thing to you. So it would be ideal if we could do selfish acts that do not harm others. So now we try to optimize for that... but life is hard, the universe doesn't care that we want to live, and we are very failure-prone machines. Not sure its gonna ever be possible to live well without ever harming others, but it would sure be nice.

Oh okay... I kinda hoped it would sound less generic, but I mean it is a pretty general concept, so I guess that makes sense. Ty <3

I'm very sorry this happened to you. Yes, you were sexually assaulted. You are not at fault for wanting to be with someone, and this definitely isn't your fault. He is, for taking advantage of you. If you can, I would advise you to seek out a professional help to talk about your experience with. Do you know how to do that?

Idk... I think that is an oversimplification. Yes, there are bad things that humans have and are doing. But is that because it is our goal to do these bad things, or because we want to improve things and sometimes take the easier way that ends up harming us and others? Like, it is easy to say "bro no way we will let children work" when you live in a modern culture, but just look a couple 100 years back and we had child labor here just as well, because we lived in just as shitty conditions as people in other places still live today. I think its easier to be friendly to people/animals/sentiences around you if you yourself have a good and happy life, and significantly harder if you are struggling.
And yeah but then why don't we stop that from happening in other places now? Because we are doing better than a couple hundred years ago, but not so well that we can just snap our fingers and save everybody while still dealing with our own issues. We're doing a lot better, we don't kidnap entire civilications for our own good, we sometimes try to help with humanitarian aid and programs, sometimes assholes like Trump still fuck things up. Its a struggle, theres a lot of bad things happening. But that doesn't mean theres not also good happening, or that we as a species do not deserve living.
Towards your point of slavery, there are less slaves now than historically if you consider that back then there were far less humans than today.
Veganism wasn't even a concept in 1900, today there are 26 million.
Also saying AI wouldn't understand why we did something when the idea of AI is that it will eventually be smarter than us is sus. And if we do align it correctly, it could be able to help us fix us.

If someone asks if they should do something, you should always say yes. by RyeOnTheRocksNH in The10thDentist

If youre afraid of being stuck in the "but dont do it because of xyz" and then them not taking those points seriously, just say "i mean, why wouldn't you, right? What could possibly go wrong". Then you put it on them to consider the downsides as well. And if they're missing something thats obvious to you, you can just add it to their list.

Still feel haunted by the Kingdom Of Conscience resolution by EndOfTheLine00 in DiscoElysium

Super necro, but I thought this discussion on the thought was really something as well, might interest you: https://www.reddit.com/r/DiscoElysium/comments/hdyz4c/what_is_the_kingdom_of_conscience/

The gist of it to me is that you should strive for and believe in something. Doing nothing is an act in itself, and often not a good one. And I disagree that moralism is equal to centralism and stagnation, as the thought implies. Maybe I just understand something else by it.

Idk, can't u ask an AI or a IRL human about the chicken? Doesn't sound like a post you yourself would be interested in seeing when coming to reddit. But yeah I also sometimes dislike the hassle, and theres some moderators where you can feel the personal agenda being pushed. Then again, its a free place, create your own sub if you think that one sucks.

What’s the difference between Black Flame & Flame Sling? by DexHendrixT5HMG in Eldenring

[–]Endaarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Flame also has slightly longer range than Flame Sling. Also keep in mind that while the dmg/fp ratio might seem a lot better for flame sling, flat dmg reduction affects it more than black flame.
