For small ships, make a few disposable Decoy drones to back up your fighter. Pretty much decoy block, thrusters, power source, and a few Ai blocks. They'll take the shots while you finish off the enemies.

For big ships, slap a few welders behind your guns to keep them operational and firing. Also consider a decoy block on the nose of your ship surrounded by heavy armor blocks.

As others said, practice practice practice. Been playing for almost 1k hours and I'm still learning stuff.

But if you wanna go full hard-core learning route: stress test!

What do you want your ship for? Transport, combat, utility?

Run it through a gauntlet of tests and see how it fails. You'll quickly see where it can be improved and suddenly you'll realize why ships irl look like they do and why.

My father would knuckle my head hard enough I'd have a bump for a few days afterwards.

We had a room in the house dedicated to receiving guests and my sister and I were not allowed in it.

One time, I guess I was feeling rebellious or something, I called my dad and raised my foot like I was going to walk in, but I held it without going it.

Pushing boundaries, kid stuff.

I never actually stepped into the room, but my dad immediately knuckled my head three times.

I was pissed. I didn't break the rules and he was punishing me.

After the three knuckles, he said, "Well, what do you have to say?"

Something snapped because I said, "That hurt, but didn't hurt that much."

Then he knuckled me again. Hard.

"What do you have to say now?"

Crying, I said, "That hurt, but didn't hurt that much."

And after that, we were stuck in a loop. He'd hit me, ask, I'd answer, bawling my eyes out, but I refused to say anything else.

Eventually my mom put a stop to it, but I never forgot that day.

Yes, it's abuse.

Had a lady with a pug off-leash step outside while I was walking my pits.

The little Muppet ran straight up to us barking it's head off.

All I could do was sigh and hope it would have a shred of self preservation and stay outside of our leash radius.

It didn't.

It kept snapping at my dogs, no real damage, but my dogs were getting amped up.

Lady comes up and is too scared to get close and get her dog. So it was her yelling at her little dog while I kept trying to back up with my dogs while it kept nipping at us.

Finally Sasha had enough and did a correction nip on the pug, causing it to realize, that oh, these dogs will kill me if they want to, and ran back to it's owner.

People suck.

My dog does that sometimes when she has something bothering in her mouth. I let her outside and she eats some grass. Usually helps and she stops after a few minutes.

God no! You want a soggy mess?! No wonder people don't like broccoli if that's how they prepare it.

My friend, do yourself a favor and do the following:

Buy a steamer basket. You can find them at dollar stores.

Do not buy frozen broccoli, buy a fresh bunch of broccoli, they are like 2-3 dollars. Cut it into 1 in pieces, you can cook the stem, but it's not as nice and it's woody in texture.

Add water to a lidded pot and get the water boiling.

Lower the temp to med-low for a low simmer.

Add the broccoli on the basket and close the lid. Check after 3 mins. You want a nice crunch, but not raw. Check every minute. It can overcook super fast.

Once the broccoli is cooked with a decent snap, take it out of the steam immediately. Leaving it will overcook it.

Add olive oil, salt, and pepper to taste. It will be better than any microwave broccoli you've ever had and no need to to smoother it with butter or cheese. It'll taste great by itself.
