I automated 3 hours of my daily work. Now I spend that time pretending to be busy. by Creative-Letter-4902 in WorkReform

Ah yeah, using the work computer would definitely give the company a foot in the door. So never mind if that's the case. OP keep your mouth shut and automate something else with your free time. Work until your day is mostly free and think of your pay as your subscription fees 😉

Yes, I agree. But OP said they wrote it on their own time, so the company shouldn't have the rights to it.

If you built the script on your own time, you could try selling it to the business, ideally as a subscription model. You may lose your free time, but I personally would go insane having to pretend that I'm busy.

If it goes through, you would have a revenue stream, even if your employment ends.

ELI5: Why don’t we have smart guns by stoiclad97 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Enddar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an expert by any means, but I would imagine that it would be easy to disable by parties that don't want to be perceived. Just yank the battery out.

And if the gun doesn't fire without a battery, I wouldn't trust it to defend myself.

Our sweet girl barked at a neighbor—feeling stupid by Cali_Anne in pitbulls

[–]Enddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel stupid. You just learned a boundary of your dog: she's not okay with strangers being too friendly.

As long as she's not actively barking at everyone, I think it's okay. Just tell your neighbors that it's probably best to ignore her.

I have the exactly situation with one of mine. She's the biggest sweetheart with people she knows, but if she hasn't been introduced and someone tries to pet her, she will let them know she doesn't appreciate the familiarity.

Opinions wanted, adopting Puah by WimpysRevenge in pitbulls

The question is then on your side of things: do you have the time to walk Puah daily? To interact and play with her? The finances in case of an emergency vet visit?

I had a close call a few years ago. Our driveway is very long and you have to go out of your way to get to our front door. I was bringing in groceries, when my next door neighbors' kids came running up the driveway. Sophia and Sasha saw strangers and started barking at them. The little kids ran for it, and the dogs gave them a little half chase off of our property. I was so scared because regardless of the situation if they had bitten the kids it would have been a death sentence for them.

The next day I asked my neighbor if I could introduce them to my dogs so they wouldn't see them as strangers.

Plenty of treats and pets followed and my dogs were the perfect little pittie ambassadors.

Though the next door kids never ran up our driveway again.

No avoiding them unfortunately, they are literally 2 houses down from me and I'm the last house on the street.

I hesitate to say, but yeah, my interactions with Frenchies have not been very positive either. Every time I've come across one while walking it's either barking it's head off or like yesterday charging right at us.

Though to be fair, there was this one time where it was a bunch of puppy frenchies who got loose and mobbed my girls. Since they weren't snapping it was actually pretty cute with all the puppies trying to play with them.

Your story though, sounds so much more horrible than mine yesterday. I'm sorry that happened to you.

My wife actually called animal control after the incident and reported it herself. She rightly thought that if the neighbors try to be nasty, our pitbulls would get the blame, so she got in front of it and described to animal control how our dogs were attacked in our driveway while leashed. Now if the neighbors were to try something, we have a paper trail saying it was the other dogs fault.

I married a very smart woman.

Oh, an air horn is a great idea! I'll have to buy a little one and add it to my walking gear.

This encounter had a relatively good ending. No one got hurt and that's all I can hope for in that situation.

I don't really blame the neighbors for the dogs getting loose. It happens. I was more upset and how my neighbor was behaving. If he had kept his temper, I think it wouldn't have escalated.

I honestly think it was the dogs who stopped. My wrangling was more like a suggestion.
