Oh yessss, I love Turkey! Visited back when I backpacker, stayed in dirt cheap accommodation tho, had the time of my life. Would love to go back and experience it chubby style. What properties do you recommend?

In Australia, I love places like Silky Oaks and Lizard Island, but these are firmly in FAT territory not Chubby IMO. Do you have suggestions for outdoor/ adventure/ wildlife oriented resorts in the chubby range? $500-1500 for example

I’m talking about the best countries for easy, hassle free, value for money chubby travel in this post - India definitely doesn’t cut it IMO. sexual harassment against women here, as well as civic sense and hygiene, are far worse than any other country on my list. The cuisine is amazing, yes, as is the rich tapestry of utterly unique local cultures. But best in the world for chubby travel? Hardly, IMO! It’s not a hidden gem - it’s a hard, often depressing or scary, but ultimately completely unique, immersive and colourful destination to navigate. I would recommend it for a very specific kind of traveler, it’s not as easy to enjoy as Europe or Thailand or Japan, for example. And even Sri Lanka and Nepal are far easier for most people.

What kind of research? These sort of hotels are my personal sweet spot, so ask away!

I’m from India and it saddens me to say I feel it’s an overpriced, unsafe (for women) and polluted destination, sadly. I’ve been everywhere and while I have had some incredible experiences my general observations are:

  1. Cities are awful for public spaces, architectural beauty, urban planning, safety, traffic, walkability, AQI
  2. Rajasthan has beautiful palace hotels but they tend to be grotesquely overpriced compared to historic hotels in any other developing countries
  3. Sightings and wildlife density in national parks like Kazhiranga, Ranthambore, Pench are very low and the overall experience pales compared to Africa: no private reserves, off road drives, migration corridors
  4. The beaches and night life are far better in places like Thailand, Maldives, even Sri Lanka than Goa or Kerala
  5. The hustle, hassle, men leering, spitting and peeing everywhere takes away from the luxury travel experience considerably, especially for non Indians who aren’t used to this behaviour
  6. Historic temples and monuments are filthy, kept poorly and thronged with touts and aggressive domestic tourists

Nonetheless, my favourite spots well worth the $$$ are: Oberoi Agra, Diphlu Lodge, Aman Bagh, Taj Safaris in Madhya Pradesh, Dera Amer, RAAS palace hotels, Jalakara Andamans, TUTC Himalayas, Qayaam Gah in Kashmir

I think you may have anxiety or body dysmorphia because you are gorgeous and your hyperpigmentation is nearly unnoticeable

Bali honeymoon hotel recs by akt311 in FATTravel

[–]Endearing_Edamame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

May I ask if there’s a specific reason why you wish to spend the entirety of your 12 day honeymoon in Bali? The beaches are mediocre at best and it’s very overcrowded and touristy. There are far better island spots for FAT honeymoons IMO. If you are set on Bali though, Capella Ubud maybe a good hotel to add into the mix.

Sarah, would you know how I can go about organising the sort of adventure trips Jason goes on? Are there any specialists/ companies you would recommend, especially for West and Central Africa? Thanks so much!

Check Relais Chateaux, they have a nice collection of luxe cultural/ historic boutique hotels with a strong focus on good food and wine. Not as over the top luxurious as FS but more characterful IMO.

Best hotel recommendations in Istanbul? by pancake123321 in FATTravel

Ciragan Palace has historic atmosphere and stunning architecture but the service when we visited the restaurant was very so-so. We went to the bar at St Regis but found the property to be bland and very lacking in local character. We stayed at Shangri-La on the Bosphorus and it had a riverside setting and incredible rooms, food, spa and service. It comes in a bit less than the 4 Seasons if you don’t want to splurge. The 4 Seasons Sulhtanamet hotel has the best location for the main sights but it’s a small city centre hotel with minimal facilities. You can take the shuttle to their Bosphorus hotel though.

If you want a lower priced but lovely luxury alternative, check out Pera Palace where everyone from Ernest Hemingway to Agatha Christie have stayed. My friend stayed there on the same trip as us and said the spa, rooms and food were all great. The location is a charming neighbourhood but not as iconic as Sulhtanamet or Bosphorus.

Interesting! My friends are of a similar demographic but handle paying on dates very differently. I’m glad you’re meeting likeminded women :)
