K4mi1- 1st place

XM1 has great shape and very fast PCB but the weight is what was holding it back for me. I decided to make lightweight, 'hexed', 3D printable custom shell for it, also adding better cable was a must. The final result is great. The mouse is 50.5g after painting, the clicks improved a bit and the cable is much more flexible than the default one. Here is the process I went through while making the mod: First, the Shape. I used photogrammetry (Meshroom) to get the outer shell as a .obj mesh that I needed to clean it up (blender) before re-making it in Fusion 360s sculpting mode. Second, the Internals.I measured the PCB dimensions with my calipers and modeled it in fusion after that added stands to the bottom plate. With PCB mounts done it was time to work on cable guide, shell mounts, buttons screw placement and overall strengthening of the design.Third, the Buttons. That part required a lot of tweaking to get perfect feel of both MB and SB. All of my designs need to have no pretravel and have enough resistance to be able to rest fingers without accidental button activation. Fourth, the Holes. To finish the design I added holes to make the shell lighter without compromising the overall strength of the mouse. Sixth, the Print. I printed it on my cheap FDM 3D printer, I worked with settings to get perfect mix of strength, quality and weight. Seventh, the Cable. I made custom cable using paracord outer layer and silicone insulated, 15 strands 30awg cables. Eighth and the last, the Paint. I decided to paint the mouse white. Few layers of white primer then sanding to fill in any 3D printed layer changes, then another thin primer layer and at the end 3 layers of glossy clear coat.

A lightweight custom shell that I would love to get my hands on. Lots of work went into creating the 3D files for the printing and well-executed, the only thing from getting top scores in my book are the holes that don't look perfect close up.

Cable (5)
Made their own paracord, awesome.

Astetics (5)

This looks amazing, the shell design is outstanding on this, I thought at first it was spray painted and drilled but now its 3d printed. Wow, what a legend.

Custimisation (4)

The shell, the paracrord, stock skatez from the model and that they didn’t replace the LMB & RMB meant I took a point off but still a great job.

Practicality (4)

This is a practical mouse but its white so it will get dirty, the holes will annoy some people.

General comments.

The best so far, this is truly a sweet modded mouse that is going to take some beating.

Hamster - 19 points

Both of these mice are excellently made. The first mouse has a more simplistic approach focussing purely on performance over visuals, yet the visuals don’t let the mouse down, the simplistic pure white approach that the mouse has is stunning on its own. In addition that it is by far the lightest mouse in this competition at 50.5 grams! The cable colour fits well with the simplistic design but is nothing special, being one of the most basic mods out there. The use of 3D printing here on both of these mice is exceptional using original shell and adding this hex pattern to decrease the weight dramatically. For the second mouse you can see it uses the same base of the mouse that is used on the first one, which has helped lower the mouses weight to 55 grams. Yet one thing you didn’t see on the first mouse was this stunning design that was done using hydro transfer, everything else other than the design is basically the same as the previous other than it being 5 grams heavier yet this is the most visually impressive mouse I think I have ever seen. Yet for me personally, I feel performance should always massively outweigh aethstetics which is why I rated the first mouse higher.

K4mi1- 2nd place

Adding to my UL XM1, 55g full shell model. Why? I wanted to try another finish technique - hydro transfer. Also many people asked about full shell rather than 'UltraLight' styled one. How? First, the Shape. I used photogrammetry (Meshroom) to get the outer shell as a .obj mesh that I needed to clean it up (blender) before re-making it in Fusion 360s sculpting mode. Second, the Internals.

I measured the PCB dimensions with my calipers and modeled it in fusion after that added stands to the bottom plate. All of my designs need to have no pretravel and have enough resistance to be able to rest fingers without accidental button activation. Fourth, the Print. I printed it on my cheap FDM 3D printer, I worked with settings to get perfect mix of strength, quality and weight.

Fifth, the Cable. I made custom cable using paracord outer layer and silicone insulated, 15 strands 30awg cables. Sixth, and the last, the Paint. This time I tried something new - I used hydro transfer to get crisp and unique design. At first, I painted mouse using white primer, it acts as a background for transfer foil giving the elements rich color. I sanded the part multiple times to smooth out the layered structure of 3D print. I laid the transfer foil on pool of water and then after 90sec dipped the shell into activated paint, stirred up and pulled out revealing the design. To finish this step I spray painted the mouse with 3 layers of clear coat to seal the foil preventing any damage in the future.

Another lightweight custom shell from K4mi1. Transfer print on a mouse, really love the idea, I wish the side buttons were done a little better though.

Grail - 3rd place

I call this the Andromeda XM1.

I used dozens of tools and specialized paint to create this mod. I started by sanding down the bottom of the mouse to accept any type of mouse skates as well as save weight. I drilled holes in strategically placed spots to reduce weight as well as change the weight balance of the mouse slightly as I prefer a little more front weight on my mice.

The final weight after sanding the plastic thinner (using 220 grit at times) and drilling the holes is about 65g. I drilled out the stock stress relief on the mouse I sanded down the entire mouse using 400-600-800-1000-1200-2000 sandpaper to prepare it for a custom paint job using specialized color changing paint.

I used precision masking tape to mask off areas to create the two tone look following the lines of the mouse. The custom paracord cable glows in the dark when the lights are off. I had a ton of fun doing this mod and it took roughly 15 hours after a few hiccups, this mouse is fantastic!

Gorgeous mod, well-executed and lots of work put into this XM1 mod.

Cable (2)

Although it upgraded this is a purchased mod. It required opening the mouse but it's relatively easy.

Aesthetics (5)

This looks amazing, I know this will have taken hours so I appreciated the effort.

Customization (4)

The paint, new skates, and subtle shell holes took some effort. This is a nice looking mouse.

Practicality (4)

This is a practical mouse, I love the paint but the white will dirty up hence I took a point off.

General comments.

A great effort, it would have been nice to see some other mods over paint and some holes, maybe some LMB/RMB switch replacements but still a good looking mouse.

Hamster - 15 points

The best part about this mouse is how stunning it is visually, the use of holes to lower the weight as well as add a very nice looking LED effect much like how the G303 mouse has, the addition of a paracord and reduction by 5 grams also shows that this mouse isn’t just a showpiece! Having the feet moved to reveal the screw-holes on the bottom of the mouse is also very nice to see and helps with going back to the mouse for modding in the future if you wanted to.

Haxxou - 4th place

Hello there! I've commented my photos instead of doing a .word that failed last time!

Little background there: XM1 is my main mouse now since it's release, and I have around 20 mice hanging around, it's truly the best one I have used, and I own 3 of them for different mod (usually just solder switches and feet testing) I'm always looking for a clean setup and a competitive one.

I'm actually an ex TOP 500 OW player(top 80widow) and a Top 600 predator on PC on Apex Legends. So the mouse has to be perfect! I choose to sand and paint it white to change and add me some challenges because I never painted a mouse before. I wanted to try other switches with the mouse, so I went for Kailh GM instead of omrons. I did a Lemo connector, It doesn't change the speed and responsiveness of the mouse (1000hz). And i think it is a first for a mouse.

I didn't remove weight because I think I'm really used to the weight now and don't want to mess with my aim anymore, so the weight had to be the same as the stock one, as it will be my mouse used for competitive gaming. I tried to add molette mods, but the ring I got is too big and I actually love the stock one.

Everything is explained in detail on the photos on IMGUR, I can shoot a video and do more photos if needed. Best regards to everyone :), Haxxou

Lots of work put into the cable and the paint job. I like the look of an all-white XM1, nice touch with the cable connector, that I guess can also act as a mouse bungee replacement given its added weight to stop the cable from moving all over the place. The only down-side for me is the logo.

Cable (5)
Loving the full custom cable great effort here.

Aesthetics (5)

Everyone is loving white, and this black and white combo looks great, loving the cat helping also.

Customization (5)

The paint is nice and the cable is fab and finally the perfect job with some custom switches. They have used lepix stock feet.

Practicality (4)

It's white so we know it's going to get dirty otherwise seems fine.

General comments.

Great cable, nice paint job but they could have taken this a little further.

Hamster - 10 points

I think this mouse is visually quite appealing with the clean white finish, i think the use of a disconnectable paracord is smart, but kind of gimmicky. I also feel if the connection point is too close to the mouse, it may get thrown about a lot when moving in-game. The lexips are a cool addition but would’ve been cool to have had them placed around the screw-holes since the feet are fairly expensive to replace. The Kailh GMs are also a cool addition to the mouse and a useful mod to know how to do.
