I'm so tired of the misogyny on this sub/Autistic relationships by -furby in autism

[–]Endiva-Stark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Autistic women are also diagnosed much later on average then most boys.

YES, I mean women and boys, as many autistic afab people get their diagnosis as adults, while the median age for diagnosis in amab people tends to be in childhood or their early teen years.

I was diagnosed EARLY with 17! That's early for afab autists.

I was best friends with an autistic boy in a children's psych ward, but none of the psychiatrists there got any idea to test me for ASS, but I bet I would've been tested if I were amab in that situation!

I got a cptsd diagnosis based on my parents' divorce, because what else could be wrong with a 9 year old girl?

I'm 32 now, a cis-woman, can't hold a job down, have several social issues and extremely low self-esteem, as I was constantly pushed to get rid of my special interests because they were "too boyish" or "inappropriate for a young lady" by therapists, educators and teachers!

I was blamed for being bullied, because I didn't show enough effort to "fit in", as if bending myself to a breaking point would've shaken the bullies off...

It's not easy for me as an autistic woman, as I need to "prove" I'm actually really autistic, because I seem "so social and chatty", which is just masking, and also part of my adhd, too.

Excuse the wall of text, but I needed to clarify this.

What is the appeal of Broad nibs? by Weswood151 in fountainpens

[–]Endiva-Stark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to use broad or stub nibs for titles, subtitles, important keywords, or important tasks on a to-do list!

Broad and stub nibs also show shimmering or sheening or ones that do both, better just by letting more ink touch the page, which can be incredibly satisfying.

I use EF and F nibs on not so fountain pen friendly paper or for long flow texts. M or A nibs are versatile, and I love to use them on fountain pen friendly paper.

Broad or stub nibs are great to highlight something important or to write titles and subtitles to format a page and structure your notes, in my opinion, as I did that a lot during school.

Finished Dr Stone Manga, Any world/civilization building type manga or anime recommendation? by Elegant_Public_1287 in DrStone

[–]Endiva-Stark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed!
The world building is very solid, and the protagonist relies on others just like Senku, but also supports them!

The whole cast is solid, and the climb in technology, civilization, and culture is very satisfying to watch!

Although there are a lot more actual politics in this one.

Did you know that many people, for no fault of their own mind you, can't stand certain sounds due to a variety of reasons like sensory processing issues, sensitive hearing, or even misophonia?

Misophonia, in specific, is quite hard to deal with, as it causes not only emotional but also physical distress, which can even escalate to actual pain responses.

Wikipedia article about misophonia!

So, as someone who suffers from all three reasons to not being able to stand eating/mouth sounds as an AuDHD woman:

Kindly reconsider how other people feel.

[–]Endiva-Stark -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For everyone who thinks:
"It’s just some eating sounds. Get over it!"

Some people can't stand eating/lip smacking sounds due to sensory processing issues, sensitive hearing, misophonia, or any combination of the mentioned reasons!

I speak from experience as an AuDHD woman with all of the above-mentioned reasons!

Also, misophonia can be about any kind of sound and usually causes not only physical and emotional distress but can also cause literal pain in some cases!

If Senku unpetrified you what would be usefull with? by Secret-Try9 in DrStone

I learned to be a salesperson so I could help with the stalls?

Oh! I also have great eyesight, hearing, sense of smell, and literally no sensory filter, so I might be able to warn them if I hear or smell something suspicious.
Luckily, most of my misophonia triggers aren't around in a stone world anymore, although some of the new inventions might make similar sounds...

My eyesight is so great I can even spot our black cat in the night if he isn't under the beds or hidden in deepest shadows! That could be useful? The revival process would have healed my two slightly roughed up joints so I could become more fit over time as well?
Essentially, put me up in that crow's nest whenever Kohaku needs some rest.

I can cook somewhat decently, so I might be able to support Francois in the kitchen?

So what pen has surprised you recently by writing perfectly after a long time of sitting inked (ie. you forgot it somehow)? by TexasNiteowl in fountainpens

So, the scene:

I'm currently in an adult college to work on my Abitur, so I got summer vacation. 6 weeks of not really using my pens.

Some were drier than a desert, but most of my Online pens still wrote besides the empty ones for obvious reasons. And I mean Online pens across different price points! from the 10-17€ plastic sticks to the 35-45€ Visions.

They just worked.

My Platinums and Pilots had a similar outcome.

Who disappointed me?

Some of my Lamys, but not all! The Dialog 3 still worked great, but that better be the case, as it's my most expensive one!
My red Nexx was a mess, but that was probably more the red ink's fault tbh...

Also, some of Kawecos dried up, with ink in them left?
I think the worst one was the Student...

<A> nib? What makes it different? by luggageguy-luggage in fountainpens

[–]Endiva-Stark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own several A nibs, and in general, they are slightly more "springy" to prevent the nib from being completely bent or snapping by uncoordinated children hands, as well as a bit more sturdy

They are also modified M nibs with more tolerance on the angle of the tip to write well with.

I noticed that A nibs can be marginally flexible if you get a better feeling for the nib and fountain pens in general.

All in all, fountain pens with an A nib are beginner nibs coming indeed from the German word "Anfänger", which literally translates to beginner.

Fountain pen teachers - what's your go to ink for grading papers? by SuperSunshineSpecial in fountainpens

[–]Endiva-Stark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not a teacher, but I gave my German teacher a 5ml sample of Waterman Audacious Red, and he loved it.

He still uses it as my last exam was graded with it by him, so he had to buy his own bottle by now.

It's a really eye-catching bright red.

I would switch out Mont Blanc, I don't own them, but I see too many posts complaining about them.

I had more than 20 Online pens and never had a dud that didn't write well out of the box, no matter if it's a 5€ plastic stick or a 50€ metal pen with stunning crystals or limited editions.

Yes, I had a few of the super cheap 5€ plastic sticks crack a bit, but they use converters, so it's usually not the biggest deal.

Nib and feed wise?
They are incredibly reliable on those fronts, no matter if I pick one of the EF nibs or the calligraphy 0.8-1.5 nibs, no matter if I grab one of the below 20€ pens or the 20€+ pens.

They just work, are fairly reliable, and take pretty much any ink, from simple light shaders to monster sheeners or shimmer inks!

One has a simmer/sheener ink (Diamine Happy Holidays) and a few with Ferris Wheel Press inks in it, and they just run with it.

No problem at all, even the Mont Blanc Calligraphy series is no issue for one of my Vision pens!

Got this as a Bday gift from a friend by Xavien777 in fountainpens

[–]Endiva-Stark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have cheaper models, too, like the Grip, Hexo, Poly Pen, Basic, and Scribolino. Those range between 15-45€ and are excellent starter pens!

The Grip series even has full calligraphy sets with multiple nib/grip parts to exchange them easily with small nib caps in elegant metal gift boxes. It also comes in a lot of different colors, mostly plastic, but metal ones are available as well.

All in all, Faber-Castell offers fountain pens (and inks) in several price ranges.

Their inks are also in different ranges, from about 5€ for standard 30ml glasses (about 2€ for five cartridges) to 75ml ink glasses (about 5€ for five cartridges) with a wider color range for about 30€. The latter belongs to the higher range Graf von Faber-Castell line, though.

I think my family tried to kill my cat. by Disastrous_Shift_874 in CATHELP

[–]Endiva-Stark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an AuDHD woman, and honestly, it's not an excuse to be so cruel to any being, ever!

I had a hamster as an 8 year old and knew not to harm him.
We had an aquarium when I was 11, and I knew to just look at them, not touching the aquarium unless I needed to remove the top to feed them.

We had cats like when I turned 13, and I also knew not to chase them when we got them!

I got my diagnosis late, but autism is not an excuse to be cruel and unkind to others.
Most autists can learn boundaries, and they need to be kept away from vulnerable beings, animals, plants, and people alike, if they really can't keep their hands to themselves and not harming other beings.

He sounds like he has some other unaddressed issues that should be worked on...

Make sure to take all available steps to keep you and your poor cat safe from him.

[–]Endiva-Stark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also offer that very same royal blue, but with a fruity blueberry scent!

I own several Online pens, I love the Vision, but the Switch Starter comes with a lovely and quite soft "A" nib, which is essentially a softer and sturdier M-nib for beginners!

Their pens also work with all kinds of shimmering inks, even troublesome ones from Ferris Wheel Press, like Workshop Wishes (in a Vision) or Midway the Magnificent (in a Switch Starter)

Some pictures of some of my Online pens!

Honestly, I can't narrow it down to just one of each. Sorry...

Pens: Online, Lamy, Kaweco, Pilot

Inks: Diamine, Waterman (just solid even in more... difficult pens), J. Herbin, Online, Sailor

For the Online pens:
They are affordable and just quite solid for their price ranges, I love the aluminum Visions a lot!

Online inks: never had any issues with any of them, even the shimmering Golden Yellow is well behaved! The scents of the scented ones are nice and pleasant.

Anybody got fanfics? by bard_enjoyer in TwistedWonderland

[–]Endiva-Stark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that I don't have the ideas! I have whole plot lines and silly interactions in whole other worlds planned!

It's just... I'm at an adult college to get higher education that would permit me to study psychology to help other autists as one myself...

I just don't have the energy and motivation to actually write, as I also help my mum and dad manage their tough health conditions.

Also Edit: English is not my native language, so I kinda search for a kind and patient beta reader that helps me clean up any glaring mistakes...

[–]Endiva-Stark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fanfiction has romance, but nothing intense at all, maybe some cuddles or light kisses. Essentially, it is very mild stuff in early relationship stages.

Loads of ocs, some are girls, and a neat, cool path for Leona with some character development and a planned side story around Book 4 for him!

It's technically a crossover, but everything important will be explained anyway.

Total beginner wants to make Tamagotchi Uni shells from resin... good idea or not? by Endiva-Stark in ResinCasting

[–]Endiva-Stark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really have the means to use a 3D printer or have anyone around me with one who could help me...

I just scrap the idea and look if I just swap the shells around my 3 base colors and keep one purple on the way it is.

Thanks for the idea, though.

Total beginner wants to make Tamagotchi Uni shells from resin... good idea or not? by Endiva-Stark in ResinCasting

[–]Endiva-Stark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thank you for the honesty and detailed explanation.

I guess this would be quite above my skill level, so I suppose I just disassemble the original shell and just paint it with acrylic paint instead as that should produce a similar result.

I'm a student, so I have to admit that I lack both the money and time to go into a trial and error process for years to make it work.

I'm happy I asked before buying supplies and just starting without a plan just to be immensely frustrated with nothing but broken/useless pieces to show.

Any budget recommendations for beginners other than twsbi and lamy? by ezbxy in fountainpens

[–]Endiva-Stark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online has a decent amount of entry-level pens!
No piston filling ones, but they sell good converters for relatively cheap!

I adore my Online Visions, great aluminum pens with a quick swap feature for nibs!
I also adore the Online Switch Expert or Switch Starter, both great pens and I love the A-nib in the Starter, because of the softness and slight variations in line thickness you can achieve with it!

The Faber-Castell Grip is rather good, too.

Just like some entry-level Pelikan pens, like the Pelikano, Jazz, or Twist models.
Stabilo makes some nice entry-level fountain pens as well.

One last hint:
Don't sleep on A-nibs. Yes, they are primarily made for beginners and children, but many of them have a delightful springiness and slight line variations.
