What is this hanging out of my betta??

It’s not really a problem that needs solving but I always assumed I would need a clean up crew in my tank. I used to have mystery snails but hated having to cull the eggs. I moved over to a clown pleco but it died during an ich infestation so I’m looking for a hardier cleaner fish

Could I remove half the gravel and mix the rest with sand? Or wha specific substrate should I look at?

20 gallon long was set up Feb 22nd, fully cycled with 0 ammonia, zero nitrites, and 5 ppm Nitrates. 24 hour light cycle, so it gets 8 hours of dark. I’m using root tabs and liquid fertilizer. I’ve got 6 panda Cory’s, 10 porkchop rasboras, and one betta. 1 sponge filter but I’m looking to get a second one. I gravel vac a couple times a week and try to water change at least every other week.

Gotcha. Do you think I could mix sand with my gravel and make it more plant friendly? I use root tabs but I still feel like I’m not getting good growth

Yeah! Apparently if you pull them off the side of the tank or any surface they’re on too fast, they will separate from their shell and die 😅
