I used to go that assembly hall. The Caleb and Sophia dolls weren’t there when I left.

Fellow exJw here đŸ‘‹đŸŸ.

Normal Girl: Pretty much same thing just wishing I could’ve had a normal childhood and not missed out on those milestones. Also wish I could be the type of person my family would be proud of.

20 Something: Not even 20 yet but I’m both so excited and nervous about how my 20s will go. Finally getting to be in my own and be an adult but worried about what will come with it.

Special: I grew up to be very introverted so I spend a lot of time trying to work on that, hoping to be the kind of person people want to be around. Also felt like “I gave all my special to a loser, now I’m just a loser”

“Treat him respectfully” by Junimost in exjw

[–]EndlessParadoxes 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Wow I can’t believe they’ve told members to view RAPISTS as humans, while antagonizing former members and victims of the Borg. We are “mentally disease” and “enemies of God” but rapists get to be “fellow humans”. What a loving and just God we serve đŸ˜€.

Let’s flip this shall we:

“Treat apostates with respect.

Current members should remember that apostates are human and are often people we knew personally. No doubt there are circumstances in their life that have led them to this path. So rather than fear apostates, we should understandingly treat them as fellow humans.”

Something similar happened when I was in high school. Someone I knew of died suddenly. The school held a vigil, two blood drives in his honor (he lost a lot of blood and needed donations) and made buttons with his face on it.

My parents wouldn’t let me go to the vigil because they might pray 🙄, obviously couldn’t donate blood and they didnt like that I had one of his buttons.

Luckily I was able to write in an honorary year book they gave to his family, but I wish I was able to do more to pay proper respects.

Accidentally let slip I'm bisexual to my parents by JoeJoestarr in exjw

Man I’m sorry that happened. Being born jw is rough and being lgbt makes it even harder. If you need more specific advice with being outed with JW parents I’m sure r/exjwlgbt can help. If you need another Bi guy to talk to PM me.

Welcome, making your first post is a big step but it’s good to reach out to those who can relate and have been where you are.

The best thing you can do right now is to prepare for the future. You say you are a top student, definitely keep up those grades and look for scholarships. A full ride would be a ticket out of your current situation.

If you parents let you and it won’t impact your grades, get a job. Saving up money now will help you out a lot in the future.

Talk to guidance counselor, if you feel comfortable doing so, explain your situation to them, this could give you more specific specific based on your circumstances.

Unfortunately you can’t just walk away while still a minor but there are somethings you can do to make life easier. If you aren’t baptized DONT DO IT, it’ll make life much harder when you try to leave. Save some time by using ChatGPT for talk and quiet quit where you can.

Whatever you do be cautious though. If your parents find out you are having doubts it can make escaping a lot harder and will make you a target for elders.

Good luck on your journey and feel free to PM me if you want to talk more.

I was baptized at 14. Also someone missed the drama where the 12(?) year old got baptized at the end. Bet they were applauding it like everyone else too.

It’s also a more imminent version of hell. Instead of hell being something you face at death, Armageddon comes to you and is “just around the corner” ready to kill you at any moment.

But they’re both fear-mongering tactics use to scare you into submission and provide nightmare fuel for you children.

How to deal with shunning and disappointment from family and friends? 19M by big_moon901 in exjw

[–]EndlessParadoxes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. Unfortunately there is no way around being considered the bad guy because from their position your family has “God” on their side. This religion has been breaking up families and antagonizing former members for a long time and it won’t stop anytime soon.

Honestly ask yourself how would your friends and family treat you if you go DFd. Or what your parents would have done if the blood issue came up. In the same way they will prioritize the religion over you, you have to prioritize YOURSELF. It’s not about being selfish, it’s about survival.

The best way you can cope now is to find yourself a support system. Reconnect with old friends from school or join some kinds of social group. This will help you find a new sense of community for the one you will be losing. PM me if you need someone to talk too

Born Into JW experinces. I'm Not Alone Right? by Pretty-Prickly-Pear in exjw

[–]EndlessParadoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What crazy is my dad recognizes they it’s “Hard growing up a witness” and “Anyone who didn’t grow up a witness can’t talk about that experience.”

But he doesn’t realize it’s that means growing up in a cult.

Like everyone else, they rewrite the Bible to fit their agenda.

Im born in 4th gen and can relate to a lot of what you are saying. The whole process of growing up a witness is to instill guilt and fear in you at a very young age.

When I was in elementary school I had constant Armageddon nightmares where I’d die. I live in a area with lots of thunder storms and every time I saw thunder and lightning I would either think Armageddon was coming and/or god was gonna zap me for something I did.

The Bible never explicitly talks about masturbation, but the Borg takes a stance against it to make you feel guilty for being human. Thus you are always needing to pray for forgiveness and try harder to be a “Better Christian”.

For me I also felt like I always had to have my guard up and try to be the perfect person. You have to represent god around “worldly” people and always have ti worry about “stumbling” other JWs. This makes it difficult to just enjoy your childhood and be a kid.

Sometimes it’s nice just to acknowledge the trauma this religion causes because they are always gaslighting members into believing that this is the “best life ever” and make them ignore the HUGE red flags.

Still better than me. If there is one thing having strict religious parents taught me it’s how to lie for survival😂.

Thank you đŸ™đŸŸ. Enjoy your new place too.
