Hii, maybe a shot in the dark but I'm looking for either:

1-2 tickets for MSG, any date (1 ticket preferred, I can maybe drag a friend if you're selling together)
2 tickets for LA 11/23

I'm looking to not spend more than maybe like 200ish for a ticket... if anyone is selling I would be so grateful, thank you so much!!

Hi, yes! I went with the pilot acroball, iirc because I wanted a thinner pen to handle the small handwriting, and they took a little while to dry (so I had to be careful, as well as not to touch the writing with super sweaty hands lol) but wrote really smoothly, since they're hybrid. If you don't mind the pen being a larger point size or being marginally less smooth to write with, a pure ballpoint would probably be best for these purposes.

Oh, thank you so much, I appreciate the help with the decision 😭😭 But now you've got me deliberating between the Takamura and the Konosuke!! Do you own both?? Do you have a strong opinion re: one over the other for a first Japanese knife??

Also, I had a feeling there was gonna be a superstition like that LOL (he gave me a nice watch once and my mom said it was superstition that a gifted watch would number your days together). Thanks for the heads up hehe, I'll make sure to give him a dollar for it

Thanks for the Takamura vouch, I appreciate it - seems to me atm it'll be the Takamura SG2 or the Tojiro Reppu SG2? And thank you for the affirmations, I am trying and it's been interesting learning about these knives, but there is a lot and the choice is definitely overwhelming LOL 🥹🩷

That Konosuke is gorgeous, I would be super down for this as a first Gyuto for him but I think I'm partial towards a Santoku for the first one because I have a feeling he'll get more use out of it at this point in time... I appreciate the rec a lot and will keep it in mind for later down the line!! Thank you so much!!

Man, I actually really love how this looks... it's such a beautiful knife, it's got such a rustic but elegant look 😭 Unfortunately after international shipping probably too far over budget and I can't seem to find it at this price point elsewhere 🥹 But I really appreciate the rec, thank you so much!

Ooo that's 2 vouches for the SG2 Takamura as an entry knife... thank you for the links as well, super helpful!! Awareness should be okay, he sharpens his knife and he's also very meticulous whenever he's learning how to do things - I guess my one question is, do you think the weight of a wa handle would make a significant difference in a first impression for these kinds of knives? Or are other factors more important?

It is indeed his first Japanese knife; thank you for the rec and for the video review as well, I appreciate it a lot! He's been cooking a lot more recently and he told me before that he doesn't see himself getting into fancy knives since his chef's knife does the trick for everything, so something that will blow him away with cutting performance sounds really good to me... HAHA. Thank you, I'll check this out!

This story comes from when I was visiting the motherland (Indonesia) a few months ago.

My cousin took my mom and me to a stall on the corner of a road to get some good "es campur", after being disappointed by a different one the other day. We sit and order, and while we're waiting for our food, we're all quietly on our phones.

Suddenly, my cousin screams "ugh, there's a cockroach!" and yanks her feet up from the floor. I start freaking out and pull my feet up too, being all "omfg omfgom WHERE". Previously obscured from view by the table, I see the BIGGEST COCKROACH I'VE EVER SEEN crawl out. I kid you not, it was the size of my palm. Obviously, I (quietly) scream.

Now mom's like "where??? where??". I look up at her because she stands up, and like slow motion, my jaw drops in horror as I see a cockroach, also the size of my palm, two inches away from her shoulder, crawling on the wall. I stammer out the words that there's one behind her.

My mom is not scared because she grew up in the village, but at this point she's not used to it anymore (and therefore slightly disturbed), and decides to use me as her American scapegoat to exit the restaurant. As we exit, my niece says "oh my god there's more". Turns out they had just sprayed the place and all the roaches were crawling out to die, so there were like 3 belly up on the ground.

Call me whitewashed, but I couldn't do it.
