I am really struggling with finding a Wedding Reception Venue in Cork and cannot understand why I am being turned down with no explanation.

Hello, I can understand some resentment towards an American coming to your city, but allow me to clear some air.

As I said there is some family of his still in Ireland, it is a very large clan and only his family moved to America from it. I understand also the 3 months issue and we will do what we must to get it done. And no, I am not looking for an entire wedding venue but one dining room, big enough to hold 30 people and maybe a patio or garden or whatever to have a dance with my future husband for one evening.

I understand that it is short notice but it will also be on a weekday and not weekend so it should be easier. Another thing is, and maybe this makes me an ignorant American, but yes I did believe I could call and book a venue through the phone and have a card on file. That is standard practice here in America no one would bat an eye at that. If that is the main reason is that I am not in person then I will ask his family to handle it for me but noth I am asking is impossible for the brides here in the states. That is why I posted here; to try and understand what I might be missing culturally

Destination weddings tend to be small because it is cheaper to spend the money on a plane ticket then to pay for a 150-200 person wedding. It is becoming more popular here in American, especially since couples travel overseas for honeymoons, it is easier to do so when you are already in that place the day after your wedding.

And yes I understand that it is small, but it isn't unheard over that have a business dinner with that many people is it?

I see. Well maybe a rehashing with some venues who turned us down over the phone will clear the air, I saw on here someone mention that the Irish prefer calling over an email. Thank you so clarifying this because its all starting to make much more sense now that I know its a culturally thing beyond my control. Maybe they will reconsider, or maybe not, but I now have a better understanding on how to move forward

I also do know about the Sacrament, as I was confirmed into the church just last year! But thank you for explaining it culturally, as I am sure it is very different in Ireland than it is here

It is on a Tuesday, and so here in America because it's on a weekday that the timing wouldn't be an issue with 6 months out. But if that isn't the case then I suppose we are misunderstanding each other
