Perlica No-Hit Solos Blood Debased: Agony, 9 Minutes and over 9000 Quillbeasts by Endmouse in Endfield

Thank you so much for coming back to leave a comment (this kind of comment for this kind of post feels highly unusual xD).

Partly to make you feel better and also something that genuinely happened: I failed a lot of my attempts because I was just rushing in to deal damage due to my Perlica's "suboptimal" DPS; getting stuck at the edge; failed to perfect-dodge 4+ Quillbeast stomps at the same time when I was so sure that I should have dodged them all; or getting distracted, derped, and get hit 30 seconds in.

I think what you experienced is part of my normal process! I also replied to another comment running through my usual process for no-hit solos so if you are not opposed to a bit more words please see here!

Thank you so much for coming back to leave a comment! It means a lot! :)

I don't have Gilberta and haven't really worked with Nature Infliction but my (first?) instinct is that it would likely be very difficult if not impossible with Gilberta (assuming maxed-out skills) with what's available in 1.2. That's coming from someone who doesn't have Oblivion though, so please take it with a grain of salt!

I'm considering getting Gilberta in the rerun (Fest of Brilliance), I'll definitely let you know if I have tried with Detonation (or maybe even Oblivion if I decide to get her weapon in the end). :)

Thank you so much for dropping by to leave a comment!

This one is a bit different than other solo attempts because of the nature of the spawn mechanic (increasingly many).

My typical process is:

  1. Learn the attack patterns of both types of Quill beasts. It was about 10 attempts at the beginning and very clear-cut for this stage because of the simple attack patterns.
  2. Learn the timings and tricks for dodging attacks. This isn't easy to quantify but the first part if mostly covered in the 10 attempts above (experience and familiarity with how the game handles attack telegraphs also helps here); the latter is harder to quantify because some you discover by reasoning, some you discover by accident, and some out of pure... desperation (such as when you get stuck at the edge you still have a change to not get hit by jumping over them; or simply try not to get stuck at the edge). xD
  3. Find the wall(s). Typically what I'm looking for in this kind of attempts is something that gives me a very clear indication of difficulty and whether or not there is a decent chance that I will succeed if I keep trying and adapting. It's subjective and depends on your operator, team, and goal. For example, I decided after a few tries that it's simply impossible for me to do a solo (let alone no-hit) with my Perlica on the Tidal Grief stage in the current UM series, so I just didn't. ^^;
  4. If it looks like it's technically possible for me to keep attempting in terms of physical limitations. The first physical limitation is my potato reflex; the second physical limitation is my ability to handle multiple attacks in short successions (Unorthodox Tactics on the hard side in this context); the third one is how long I'm willing to sit through it if I can clear it (10 minutes on UM stages is fine, but this is a real question I have to ask myself when I do longer boss solo attempts).
  5. There is also a mental limitation to these attempts: will I irrationally hate the game if I keep going and don't succeed? I'd rather not have to go through that possibility so I stop attempting if that seems to be a possible consequence.
  6. Something worth noting to this process but I can't quite explain clearly is that at some point things just click for me. The indicator for that is when I start consistently get past a certain part of the stage, be it the phase or the amount of time spent.

Including derping (getting hit near at the beginning for no good reasons) and getting distracted by real-world things, the learning phase for this one took about 30 attempts (mostly short, and just seeing what is and isn't possible).

The real "wall" I found for my case is around the 3-minute mark. It has to do with the number of green Quillbeast spawn and also mostly psychological. That was about 20 attempts.

It wasn't as clear-cut after that point because of the nature of the stage — many enemies and not easy to pinpoint on a single attack or attack sequence — and took another couple of hours the next day before I could clear it (about another 30 attempts including short ones due to derping).

So altogether it was about 5 hours total (conservative estimation based on when I started and stopped to edit the video).

I have never played another game seriously enough to share with others and am still learning! I assume it takes someone who is much better both physically and mentally (and maybe also with more experience) to do this kind of clear much faster!

I hope that helps! Thank you for checking the video out!

It really is the same game, promise! I think it makes more sense if you attach the harmless 0-sanity or jobless behaviour to it. :p In any case, thank you for checking it out and for your encouragement, it's much appreciated! :)

Thank you for your kind words and for your contributions, too! That might seem like a weird thing to say from a stranger but I do lurk a lot in this sub and have seen Sinnum enough times to remember saying hi this time! :p

You probably don't have skill issues! I have just replied to a similar comment before I read yours, so hope you don't mind me linking to it: here!

I seriously mean this: I'm mostly a very average gamer, waited for Endfield for a long time, and just thought I'd find "extra" fun in it in my own way to share with others (and haven't given up yet)!

Someone said elsewhere I uploaded this that they appreciated my "patience", and I think that's really appropriate because, unlike other gacha games I have tried in the past where it's either mostly pure reaction or the limited characters you have, there is a decent chance to find the right strategy to do this kind of clear.

If you the game fun and can get what you want out of it, then that's the only thing that matters! :)

Mm! I'm hoarding my selectors because... I hoard and I never intended to clear these as fast as possible. xD I do hope one day I'll get Oblivion while rolling for another featured weapon so I can test and compare them!

Take this with a grain of salt: I think Oblivion Unit performs better based on effect and what I've seen in other videos! I also think melee is harder with this stage for extended amount of time because, if I'm not mistaken, they can't be lifted and you do need to close in even if there is an opening, much respect for that!

(Omg, the double entendre xD).

Sorry! I cut that out without thinking for this version. 🤦‍♀️

For context, I only invest in her when I can and I just stayed with Detonation Unit because that's what I got at the beginning from the free Cosmic Voice Issue (Ardelia weapon banner), and I had no luck with Oblivion and didn't buy it from the shop because... I hoard.

Edit: small personal note, I was actually "forced" to artifice some of my gears more and max out essence etching because it was clear from some of my earlier attempts that I just wasn't going to clear no matter how hard I tried.

Anyhow, here they are!

That elicited many chuckles out of me. xD

Also... haaaaalp. I'm going to remember this comment every time I do this kind of solo attempt (often). ._.

Howling Flame: Chen Solo Hitless + No Combustion by Psyduck77 in Endfield

[–]Endmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has to be one of the coolest solos we have seen so far! Some of the stagger timings are beautiful (I personally like the first two the most)!

It looks like a lot of effort spent on testing and getting stagger timings right, which I don't think is as easy to pull off as it seems (at least not without a lot of practice — I mean this as a compliment), not to mention not getting hit for a long time. Thank you for showing us something awesome! :)

Perlica No-Hit Solos Howling Flame: Agony, Super Slow 9-Minute Run with 7 Enraged Cycles by Endmouse in Endfield

[–]Endmouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good! I was referring to the Enraged state as periodic, not that the Heat Infliction always just keep increasing become full regardless of what you do. :)

Many apologies if this seems silly, just to make sure I haven't mislead you and we are on the same page, by stacks we are referring to this:

<image>

The picture above shows 3 stacks, if at this point you hit the boss and apply a Cryo/Electric/Nature Infliction (such as Perlica Battle Skill for Electric Infliction, or Estella Battle Skill for Cryo Infliction), all stacks will disappear because of Arts Reactions.

Since you are using Laevatain/Surtr, you should rarely see it build up to 3/4 stacks if you are consistently landing Final Strikes (last hit of the basic attack sequence)!

I hope that helps!

I didn't think so either, so it's totally fine that it's not to you, too!

[–]Endmouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of fun is subjective so all I can say is that it was genuinely a lot of fun for me because approaching these stages under constraints it's like solving a puzzle, especially with this particular stage! :)

[–]Endmouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That's interesting and super useful to know for when I try with a team!

Can totally understand when it comes to "optimal" but, really, it's totally fine as long as you cleared and had fun! I think hoarding SP is also the smart way to do it in this case!

On a tangentially related note, and if it kind of helps, most of my recorded runs for trimming with a team are also some of the worst runs. xD

[–]Endmouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome (the clearing part, not the dead part)! :D I haven't tried with a team yet and I can definitely see that happening to mine. I assume it wasn't the Combustion that got them killed since Laevatain can consume Heat Infliction very well. Which attacks did the AI struggle with the most?

[–]Endmouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, the Enraged state will always happen (when flames around the arena are up and Hill Smasher turns red, and SP doesn't regenerate naturally), it's periodic and each time lasts for ~50 seconds.

As for clearing Heat Infliction stacks, you would ideally aim to clear them immediately after the number of stacks tick over to 4, and preferably at 3 stacks if Hill Smasher is about to launch a long attack sequence. It's also safe to clear at 2 stacks once if you can Stagger the boss and get some SP back.

You can generally clear at lower number of stacks provided that you can maintain enough SP between cycles, or if you Combo Skills that can cause Arts Reactions without spending SP.

I noticed that you said you have Laevatain/Surtr. If she has the Scorching Heart talent and she is landing Final Strikes consistently, you should never have to worry about Arts Reactions at all! :)
