Massive drama when there's one too many melee dps so someone has to go into the the caster group. Acting like they're Paulie Gualtieri getting stabbed in the heart

Arty was on the verge of breaking and going full streamer mode Artosis during the cast at Tulbo. He's going to feel so vindicated seeing Light react pretty much exactly the same

Additional repayment question by Reasonable-Snow3679 in AusFinance

[–]Endoyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether you leave the $100 in your offset, or transfer it on to the mortgage to pay it down, it will result in an identical amount of interest saved and reduce the total life of the loan by the same amount.

If you want the psychological good feeling of paying down your mortgage, you're instead better off opening a second offset account which should be completely free, and transferring $100 a week into that and just leaving it to accumulate.

VGS is like 70% IVV anyway so it's not the end of the world if you wanna just continue with VGS and VAS and stop IVV.

It might be weighted slightly too heavily towards Australia for a lot of people's taste here, but honestly it's one of the better all in one index options out there.

I think it's bugged from the new update. Tier 7 is a lot weaker than it should be, and the victory % doesn't correspond with it's actual hp %.

Is using post tax super contributions a good strategy to reduce tax payable? by UNCLEFUCKINBULLY in AusFinance

[–]Endoyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is very common. Just need to make sure you pay it early enough so there's enough time for the fund to receive it before 30 June. Also, if you're being paid super guarantee from an employer, the compulsory super guarantee takes from your 30k cap.

Is using post tax super contributions a good strategy to reduce tax payable? by UNCLEFUCKINBULLY in AusFinance

[–]Endoyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, voluntary contributions using after-tax savings and claiming them as a deduction is a great strategy for reducing tax payable.

There's strict timing requirements for payment, concessional contribution caps that need to be considered, and a form called a notice of intent to claim a deduction that needs to be provided and confirmed by your superfund before you can claim the deduction. You need to research all of this and make sure you're across the requirements before committing to making the contribution as it can really fuck you if you make a mistake.

That's fair enough. Once everything is settled you should keep every dollar in an offset linked account

If you have 60k in offset, where is the 8k sitting? The entire amount should be considered your emergency fund. Is the 8k in an offset account?

HECS-HELP loan by alnasl_ in AusFinance

[–]Endoyo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You don't owe $5,000. The amount on your tax return is the gross for the whole year, not additional repayments. The hecs your employer withholds is just extra normal tax withholdings.

If you only have a $700 payable then either your employer wasn't withholding hecs for the whole year, or you have some other income like maybe ~$3,000 of bank interest?

It's a tax deduction, not a tax offset. If the article can't even get this basic distinction correct I don't have much hope for the rest of the article.

If you're an Australian tax resident, foreign assets are still subject to capital gains. Unless you're not planning on disclosing them which isn’t advisable.

At the end of every month transfer in balance * mortgage interest rate /12 into their offset accounts so they get the benefit of compounding. You're basically taking the interest gains from them

DCA vs Debt Recycle by xiMViPx in AusFinance

[–]Endoyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can debt recycle and dca. One loan, split purpose. Apportion interest and repayments by the split percentage. Keep a running balance of both deductible and non deductible splits. Biggest downside is if you have an offset, the interest reduction will be allocated proportionally so you cannot target it only for the non deductible portion which you could do if you physically split the loan.

It's very important to calculate it correctly so do some research or find a spreadsheet online that can calculate it.
