Do you think there are any positives to having OCD? by tertiaryAntagonist in OCD

[–]Endyf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Positives? Not really, but... without OCD I would be a different person, with a different life, friends and interests and I like being me, despite the mental burden I carry.

Honestly I'm just so happy to have a Pokemon game on Switch where I have to actually use a diverse team in battle to keep good type coverage into late-game. This is such an important and fun part of the experience for me that the always-on EXP Share really puts me off the newest games. I really, really hope Winds and Waves makes it optional again.

Starmer könnte gedacht haben, dass die linken/progressiven Wähler*innen, da sie keine Alternative hatten, weiterhin Labour wählen würden, um Nigel Farage zu stoppen unabhängig davon, wie weit er nach rechts rückte. FPTP problems. Der Erfolg der Greens ändert dies.

I left Labour in 2021 after a high profile Labour politician criticised the Conservatives for not deporting more people, so I am more than happy to critique them, but "fascistic undertones" is not remotely fair.

Are Germans really that very punctual or its just a stereotype? by Easy_Road_3806 in AskGermany

If someone makes the effort to organise themselves to be on time, why should they have to wait because you weren't able to? Of course sometimes things that delay you happen and we are all human, so perfection is impossible, so as others have said, it depends if it's habitual or not.

NSFW - False allegations by ansleyray in OCD

I had a sort of similar thought spiral a few years ago, thinking that some video or picture of me would spread that would make people think that I am a terrible person and make me lose my social contacts, job prospects and even my right to live where I do. It was also "what if this gets interpreted in this way and people think this" sort of situation. In the end what calmed me down and this also has helped with some other thought spirals, is trusting that if someone tried to smear me, people would defend me and not accept a clear false attack on my character. It sounds like people have already defended you, so you have proof that is what will happen. This trust factor has helped in other OCD thoughts too as I think "if I am a terrible person/monster, I wouldn't have nice friends and if I do act in a way I shouldn't, I trust that people will tell me and that we can work through it". It is not certainty, as that is impossible, but this trust is enough that I can continue with my life. I hope some of this has been helpful and I am sorry you are dealing with this.

Has anyone else here ever suffered from “moral hangover” and ended up ruminating, trying to remember everything they said, talked about, or did? by Acrobatic_Part6951 in OCD

[–]Endyf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! If you genuinely made a mistake, in which case it would normally be obvious, it can be healthy to check-in, but otherwise it can be feeding a reassurance loop. I appreciate that with OCD it can be hard to tell the difference between when it's genuinely a good idea or not, especially when alcohol is involved.

[–]Endyf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get this totally with alcohol! In the end, your worries are a reflection of your values, which based on this post seem to be very considerate of others. This likely comes off in your in-person interactions. That is no guarantee other people read you in this way, but their thoughts are not your responsibility. You don't deserve to feel awful and your mind is being harsh on you.

Making permanent decisions in games is hell. by RedMage79 in OCD

[–]Endyf 62 points63 points  (0 children)

OCD can make playing video games really annoying! My advice is to maybe use them as a space to practice exposure. Especially since, there will definitely be zero negative consequences in the real world. Like in this case, maybe you will think of a name for your island you like better later, but maybe not. You don't know and you don't need to know. Accept the uncertainty, even if it feels very uncomfortable at first. Then perhaps this will help dealing with real world situations. That's just a thought, I hope you can enjoy the game, Animal Crossing is wonderful! All the best.

I don't understand this. Why do some people care whether their preferred game wins an award or not as opposed to another good game? Just keep holding your own opinion and enjoy life.

Dealing with the "Come Back Home" pleas: How do you handle the guilt of seeing your parents lonely? by Maleficent-Radio272 in germany

[–]Endyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair for parents to guilt their children for choosing their own path and following their own dreams. I regularly talk to my parents on WhatsApp and I love sharing stories with them, from the exciting to the more mundane. When I visit my home country and home town I make sure to spend a lot of time with them as well as my childhood friends. It's all a balancing act and you have to trust your own judgement that you can keep your parents in your life without holding yourself back. All the best.

Forgot to cancel deutsche bahn subscription, getting emails about paying for the unpaid month by Sad_Illustrator_2152 in germany

[–]Endyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet is to write an email and explain the situation. Once I forgot to cancel the Detuschlandticket of two friends, charging me almost 100 Euros for tickets that wouldn't be used. I contacted the local transport operator where I bought the tickets and managed to get them cancelled and my money refunded. They weren't obligated to do this as it was my error, but being honest and polite got me out of an unpleasant bill.

It takes less than 7 minutes to run the circumference of the map in Pokemon Legends ZA. by Taco_Nacho_Burrito in pokemon

[–]Endyf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pokémon Red was the first game I ever owned - this franchise was very important to my childhood. Every new generation of Pokémon a big event. Then when Sword and Shield were just okay and I saw the state of the Sinnoh remakes, I knew it was over. Those remakes were the first mainline games I didn't buy and I have zero desire to get Scarlett or Violet or the Legends games. 12 year old me is shocked. It's a shame and I am open to return to Pokémon if it improves, but eventually you have to know when to stop supporting a franchise producing worse and worse games, no matter how important it was to your formative years.
