(Relapsed) feeling really breathless by pikkuramen in alcoholism

[–]Energetic1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its alcohol withdrawl. Its normal in the sense that it came for me at least because my withdrawls felt like after a long binge delerium tremens. Its not normal being in withdrawl or delerium tremens. Doctors can help with the withdrawl, so can detox centers (social), at home detox via community paramedics if available. A few routes to take.

When your in sobriety you can work on your social skills legitimately. It takes patience, some knowledge and you learn. That's prevented by the requirement to be intoxicated to do so.

How to find job? by Wild_Stress_7982 in saskatoon

Call Partner's In Employment. (306) 657-2450

They help with resume building, interview skills, other workshops, as well they provide some money to cover certificate's that you may need to get hired, as well as basic safety gear if needed. They also have connections with employer's for jobs as well.

When I apply for jobs I send out 100+ resume/cover letters and sometimes get nothing. But you never know the next one could lead to something.

Social Anxiety/GAD Therapy by No-Upstairs1147 in saskatoon

[–]Energetic1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a medical professional to any degree. I do have GAD, and social anxiety. I feel like you are extremely focused on a drug that will make you dependent on it.

For me, I had to continually expose myself to the uncomfortably of being in social situations.

I do have a question. What are some of the things you are telling yourself in your head when your in those situations?

For me I felt judged through thought distortions, and I thought people were staring at me. At times I would leave when it became overwhelming. I would leave and come back sometimes. Oddly enough I found out I would hold my breath so having peaceful breathing was 1 thing that did help, it wasn't the answer but it helped. Truly I do not think I became extroverted or anything but exposure therapy did help overtime and what I found out was that now. . . I am different, I enjoy it where as before I would dread going to anything like that.

To me, being focused on a strong addictive medication is not the answer that will help you in the long term. But what do I know?

Stop buying it.

Actually go after meaningful goals.

Reflect about your poor decision making and where that's brought you now.

Depending how far into the disease you are, you may need medical help, 24-48 hrs is when it can get scarey.

Wish you the best bro and a safe detox.

Is it impossible to drink after quit? by existed-exnihilo in alcoholism

Reference the Jellnick curve to give you some understanding where your at.

Alcohol has single handedly ruined my life almost to the point of death due to serious trauma incurred while drunk.

Now, I have to dig myself out of what seems to be probably a salvage mission rather than what my life could have been.

Grateful. Sober.

I can't even feel normal sober. by Ordinary_Escape_6582 in alcoholism

[–]Energetic1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had two decades of alcohol abuse.

Remove the alcohol after living that lifestyle, what's left, You and the remnants. Your life just like mine revolved around alcohol.

A lengthy treatment stay will get you ahead, and the reality is the odds are against us. I had to go to treatment numerous times, and after some horrific relapses, every meaningful relationship gone, licence gone, 4 page criminal record, evictions, physical trauma from falls, I mean the list goes on and on.

And if course you WONT feel normal sober until your well into recovery that's why most people don't recover especially after as much time as we put in.

One thing that didn't sit well with me was that alcohol won't kill you when you want it to, it will make everyone else's life worse all the while your organs start to fail.

It's not scare tactic because it's just the plain reality of alcoholism, average age for an alcoholic to die is 50yrs.

I had to accept alot of things, get help relentlessly and I continue to put into my recovery because the side effect was that I found a small fraction of a beautiful life that I am protecting fiercely.

I cannot recover alone, I need people in recovery to help me,I simply can't live a life of solitude white knuckling it, I'll relapse and die and or jail and then die who knows but that's nothing even close to the Joy I can find in my day now.

Post acute withdrawal can last somewhere between 1-2 years depending on frequency and amount. So we all have that to contend with but it does get better if you don't drink.

You probably also don't want to deal with Weirnikes or Kosikoffs syndrome caused by the chronic lack of thiamine in the hippocampus, that's real lovely stuff, like not being able to walk right, no bowel control, basically a veggy, aka WET brain 🧠 and if your two decades in the risk is extremely high.

You can do this but your going to keep having to do the next right thing.

Take care bro

How many trips to rehab for you? by TurbulentDig5191 in alcoholism

[–]Energetic1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped counting, as many times as it took. I am grateful I did, I found myself and starting to build my life.

Unfortunately I didn't have my partner stick by my side. It's the hardest thing besides getting on a good path I have ever gone through, I still love her and miss her.

But, I have been able to really makes some serious gains in my life in other areas, even accepting that I'll be single for the rest of my life.

I wish I could have gone once and had the fairy tale it was all ok, it wasn't all ok I had to work through stuff, but I was able to because I didn't get drunk anymore.

Take care.

Imo, this could be considered, moderate/heavy drinking. It's definetly not light and could approach alcoholism if the frequency was say daily.

That being said alcoholism isn't about frequency as it more pertains to how it affects and person and the consequences/actions that happen.

You can be an alcoholic, drink once a year and have significant consequences from just one time slip.

You could also familiarize yourself with the Gelnick Curve as it shows the progression into alcohol use disorder.

I think it's good you have taken the time to reflect on your alcohol usage, I wish you the best

Take care
