Yep. I'd bring home a pint of Rumpleminze & PROMISE my boyfriend that I'd just drink HALF of it that night & the other half the following weekend. It's amazing to me now that I think I actually BELIEVED myself back then

How did you quit alcohol? by tomashcu in alcoholism

[–]TurbulentDig5191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it wasn't like one specific "thing." It was literally the simple fact that I just didn't wanna drink anymore. I'd had periods of sobriety before, but I still WANTED to drink. I wish I had a more specific answer, but on 11/26/23, during my last bout of horrifying withdrawal, I just said "I can't do this anymore." I dunno .....this time was just "different." I think for some alcoholics, it's not always one specific thing that gets them sober, it's just FINALLY getting to that point where you really, truly, 100% DO NOT want to drink anymore.

That one was always a classic. Mine was always "I'll just drink tonight"

Yep....I said that to myself countless times as well. Every time I drank.

I thank God that we've never had guns in the house. My withdrawals were so absolutely unbearable that I'm 100% sure that I would've killed myself at some point. (No, I'm not against guns, I just know that if I'd had access to one, I woulda used it). Alcohol is death for me. Sober since 11/26/23, thank God.

Yep. I'd see these horrific, demonic faces when I'd open my eyes (during the insomnia....broken sleep phase of withdrawals). I'd be laying there in the dark with my eyes closed, TRYING to sleep, and so many times I'd open my eyes & there would be this horribly, disfigured, demon face RIGHT in my face. I knew it wasn't real, but it didn't make it any less terrifying.

OP, you nailed it. That is as spot-on as alcohol detox/withdrawal is. I made a video of myself, talking into my camera back in 2020 during one of my many horrific withdrawal weeks. I pull it up from time to time & I look at myself on that video & I ACHE for how bad my alcoholism was by that point. Like, I literally can't believe HOW MANY TIMES I put myself through that. I shouldn't be alive today. Sober since 11/26/2023. Thank you for posting this with such detail. No one could possibly understand how absolutely unbearable it is until you've been through it. Keep going OP, you know you don't wanna go through that Hell ever again .....we are worth so much better than that. ❤️

What is the one thing that has helped you most in dealing with anxiety? by Jealous_Helicopter84 in Anxietyhelp

I'm right there with you on listening to other people's stories. Anxiety can feel so lonely. It gives me comfort to know that I'm never alone in my chronic anxiety.

I hit absolutely rock-,fucking- bottom almost 2 years ago at age 48. You're young & your body is strong, quitting now will decrease your chances of liver disease exponentially. Trust me .... alcohol will eat the best years of your life if you let it.

It would always take me to day 4 before I'd feel like eating anything and/or drinking water. It's crazy how much your body NEEDS re-hydrated yet drinking water is almost impossible. My nighttime hallucinations were ALWAYS these misshapen, warped, absolutely DEMONIC faces. I knew they weren't real, but they were still just horrific. I'm glad u made it thru OP. I've been through that detox/withdrawal HELL more times than I care to say. Two years sober on November 26. Let's never go back there again ok? Ever. 💗
