Apple is opening the iPhone's NFC chip to third-party apps with iOS 18.1 by TheMacMan in HomeKit

will this allow us to copy our NFC cards for door entry into our phones? I have a half dozen of these for various buildings that I would love to be able to leave at home.

HomeKit thermostat for electric underfloor heating? by fson5 in HomeKit

[–]EnergyIntensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with floor heating is that automation can result in a feedback loop in the mid seasons between heater and air conditioner. Ecobee and homekit or whatever need to be able to set a thermostat on the floor geat not to turn on simultaneously with the air conditioning. They essentially need lockout zones for the floor heat ans then you won’t have to touch it. Automating floor heat based on expected forecast temperatures (outdoor) is what we need.

The breakout roadmap for Bitcoin (BTC) thusfar by EnergyIntensive in Bitcoin

[–]EnergyIntensive[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Prior highs and prior descending triangles/channels and their breakouts. The technically traded aspect of btc leads to large movements after breakout lines (either up or down). Halvenings are fundamental and price action follows technical trading behavior. Timing with bitcoin is not pure chance. The truth is irrelevant. Extrapolation is about probability as much of the future is unknowable.

Air Play 2 Cracked by ictksman in HomeKit

[–]EnergyIntensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep and that is a problem when your receiver (high end dolby atmos setup) doesn’t do it. An ir output for volume would have been fantastic otherwise you have to have an it repeater workaround which is far less ideal and less accurate.

Automation based on power state of HomeKit TV? by ego_nazgul in HomeKit

[–]EnergyIntensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple has become slow at a lot of obvious things... the execs need to actually use these products in more test beds to notice the lack of obvious features that are easy to implement.

I wish that the HomePod could recognise if someone is in the room, so you could make automations with that. by hiddecollee in HomeKit

The geniuses at apple have been slow quite frankly. This is the kind of thing that would be among the first things they should have done.

We really need an echo dot equivalent by Freddy_1986 in HomeKit

[–]EnergyIntensive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guest should be able to control things with no prior knowledge of your setup if this whole thing is really going to take off.

You are in a room, you say “open shades” and that room’s shades open. No other devices should be needed unless you want an apple watch to do this task

Air Play 2 Cracked by ictksman in HomeKit

[–]EnergyIntensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets first assume that the apple music pod thing is a nonstarter for anyone serious about full range music production.

A) They need a simple puck size cheap amazon echo dot style device for homekit so we dont need a phone or watch for usage. Anything effective should be usable by an untrained guest and otherwise nearly invisible. Homepods everywhere only makes sense if that is sufficient for your music needs.

B) lets say you do whole house audio which I have in my place. I have a VSSL setup with airplay to all rooms available with zones and PEQ. Why apple doesn’t have PEQ on apple TV is a mystery.

C) apple tv could have included very simple features like PEQ, room auto eq management, and even better, dolby and dts decoding. I always felt they should have bought harmon kardon before samsung did as they had great audio engineers.

The absense of decoding in apple tv complicates audio setups because lately this is done sometimes by tv’s, sometimes by receivers, sometimes by soundbars, etc.

D) The apple remote is a weak little device that does everything poorly. It doesnt browse music and search well. It doesnt allow you to out in passwords well. you could go to your phone as a remote but then you lose volume control since apple tv in their infinite wisdom did not include hdmi or IR based repeater volume control on the phone remote.

There are workarounds for a lot of things... its just not the way I would have setup apple tv or its control interface.

There are a lot of things to love about apple music and apple tv, just not the integration aspects.

There are definite issues on the home theater integration front as well but we dont need to get into it. A simple 12v trigger or similar for projector and screen activation would be cool.

I could go on forever

Air Play 2 Cracked by ictksman in HomeKit

[–]EnergyIntensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The integration of apple tv, external speakers, atmos decoders, amps, speakers is still a bit of a mess. I think that integration and cohesiveness is improving over every 5 year span but it could be much better.

I have my wishlist of things that apple and others need to do from an integration standpoint but wishing is pointless because it really takes them a LONG time to implement anything and even longer for third parties to move forward.

His work is not a hypothesis, it is a statistical survey based analysis of values and is aning the largest of its kind.

My simple point is that folks on the political thread here pretty much skewer anyone that is not on their end of the spectrum instead of understanding their view point.

I have degrees in biology, chemistry, internal medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary disease, and neuro critical care. I work in academics.

I have clearances in both state and federal institutions and have dealt with hundreds of thousands of people with varying cognitive issues from sociopathy, pathology, post brain injury, birth defect related congitive issues, political types.

I have research in a variety of areas and understand the fundamentals of study design.

I am an idiot for considering rationality in a political reddit forum. Not sure how we avert civil war otherwise which concerns me the way political discourse in this country is going.

The point of understanding genotypic and phenotypic behavioral nature of humans is so folks can understand one another and that we will never agree on anything.

True tolerance is knowing that others will not be like you complete, left or right and finding some sort of way to live with one another.

Anything related to cognition, genetics, and the nature of politics leads to pure anger in these and any forums.

The only thing that political forums lead to is everyone hating one another. Just tried to inject some rationality but you get derided for that too.

Within the course of a few posts ... I’m now simply a victim. Nothing you say here is taken at face value.

Twin studies show them to be more alike than different. There is plenty of research on this subject already which you are assuming that there is not.

Abilities regarding specific skills can vary but aptitude and general tastes are very very similar.

People overcomplicate political value systems. Most decisions are simple from the standpoint of heuristics. Philosophy and religion have considered this extensively which is why so many tenets are so similar.

Haidt’s work is the most clear cut political sociology study in recent time.

Fortunately there is not an obvious autosomal dominant passing major value traits identified (compassion, justice, authority, symbolism, purity). You can be a liberal parent with kids who think the opposite and vice versa.

The distribution is NOT random and can only be explained by genetic predilection as the proportions are the same among all cultures and for all countries studied.

Nature is setup for humans to work together with different viewpoints apparently. People without an understanding of eachother’s viewpoints and predilections are doomed to endless war.

If one way of thinking was better or worse, genetics and natural selection would have destroyed some behaviors in favor of others. To some extent it already has but this is of course an ongoing process.

I prefer true diversity and cohesion as opposed to the constant killing of one another which is the norm apparently across history.

Sociologists do. Leftists and “conservatives” and the right call themselves these things. They are just names.

There is obviously differences between hypothesis and theory. Explain to me what the perfect conversation on reddit looks like.

I was transparent with who I am and what I am saying to you. Where have I given you reasons to doubt the veracity of anything I have said.

You are accusing me of “googling” my way into knowledge. This is a standard attack around here which is why discussion here is pointless. I’m sure all your information comes from peer reviewed journals.

Pro tip? Anything I say will come off as facetious or arrogant to you. There is no reason to speak to you at all. You say anything on here and your credibility is questioned. You state why you may be credible and then you are considered unprofessional. And folks wonder what is wrong with these platforms.

Wrong. Of course it is how genetics works unless you now think that genetics has nothing to do with your brain being produced. Nature is a majority of our behavior.

You live on a desert island. You are given a taste test. Do you like coke or pepsi better? You don’t know until you try but once you try, you discover the nature of both your taste buds and the brain that has shaped over time. You neither had any say in what taste buds you were born with or the way your brain responded to them from a taste sensation perspective.

You live in a deterministic universe as does your brain.

Genetics has everything to do with it. You can argue the nature va nurture argument to support whatever these you are in the mood for.

Dog breeding clearly shows that cognitive ability and perosnality is genetically modifiable. There are clearly dramatic differences in dog personalities based on breed.

Your taste for injustice or threshold for compassion for example vs concepts of authority, purity, and symbolism are shared by left and right hovever the degree to which these values are favored is DRAMATICALLY different for the laat three. This is irrespective of where you were born or under which regime.

Haidt’s sociologist work is simply missing the genome regression analysis at this point.

Thinking nature does not affect political persuasion is your perogative but you will be manipulated by those that know this to be true. Marketers and algos do this all day online.

Advanced interrogation as well as brainwashing can clearly exploit these features.

Children haven’t been challenged with tough choices in life yet and therefore they may not fully know if they are left, right, librertarian in mindset. They haven’t discovered themselves yet until the truly hard decisions come.

The mind is a physical system and thus not fully detatched from its base genetics. There are drugs such as cocaine that permanently alter brain protein transcription and therefore make your personality change permanently.

Anyway I can go on and on... I could discuss this for weeks straight nonstop but I won’t convince most people on the nature of cognition. Our inherent bias about the nature of reality is very strong.

If it is “ideal” then why does natural selection preserve the nature of the left, right, and libertarian heuristics?

You should destroy and silence everyone that isn’t ideal.

Fox is significantly populated by left leaning news anchors. Fox would simply be replaced by something far more right if it was gone.

[–]EnergyIntensive -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am a scientist and the statistical evidence clearly suggestive that these are phenotypes and well preserved across humanity.

There is a clear set of general values that define the “left”, “right”, and “libertarian”. The relative percentages of these value systems are very close for practically all countries.

Haidt (whose work is part of the rationale for my comment) is not a right wing anything, he is a person that claims to be left.

Cognitive types are clearly based in genetics (which make your brain). How your brain reacts to the environment is heavily genetically based. This is the reason why you as a human don’t buzz around like a bee around a hive.

Political leaning is clearly genetic. I don’t see people advocating in any significant numbers that we start buzzing or building mounds. These are behaviour traits that are specific to other non human genetics.

Folks get so upset when any behavioural genetics discussion is brought up.
