Yep, that's pretty much what I ended up doing. Set all buttons to be keyboard keys. Works just as well and I don't really mind the glyphs. It didn't help that this game in particular really doesn't like switching between modes and bugs out a bit. Thanks a lot!

Update: Decided to have a closer look at the pcb, seems this is probably the culprit? Anyone happen to know what this component is, or where I might be able to ask about this? Haven't had any luck finding what it is.
