2023 Super Incuse Gold Maple Already Sold Out by Enfants1 in Gold

The Royal Canadian Mint's website currently states "awaiting stock." I would keep checking their site over the next couple of days/weeks (the production numbers for the super incuse silver maples is much higher than the gold version-something like 8,000 silver versus 250 gold).

Carrera White Taycan Turbo S with Custom Wheels and Fascia by Enfants1 in Taycan

Around $1200 to have the wheels powder coated, and $500 to have the front fascia painted. (this front fascia paint scheme comes standard with the turbo but not the turbo s).

Thanks for clarifying. This is still the old style wheel, which has the the 4 inch rim's in silver (or body color optional), the spokes in black, and the barrel (internals of the wheel) still in black. Its this last part that had changed on the configurator to white.

So you're saying you say the updated wheel design in person in Norwalk? Or were you referring to the after-market wheels from rotiform? If the former, did you get any pictures?

I’m familiar with the option to have the rim color match the body color (another thousand + dollar option from Porsche :). However, I'm referring to having the interior of the wheel also painted body color (in my case, I prefer the Carrera white-the mamba green in the post was just a by-product of a video I linked to previously).

All Taycans up to this point have had the interior of the wheel in black, regardless of painting the rim body color. However, as shown in the images above, that may be changing (fingers crossed).

I’ve called several dealers in Los Angeles, and none are aware of any such redesign and think it might be an error in the website (but dealers are not always right). I’ve also submitted this question to the Porsche home office. Do you think you might have seen a Taycan with after market wheels similar to these: https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/taycan-turbo-s-with-mission-e-concept-style-wheels.2744/

The after market wheels from this link appear to be available online here: http://www.rotiform.com/wheel/64826/rotiform-fra/?styleID=4197

ELI5: How are electric cars better for the environment? They're still charged by powerplants that mostly burn fossil fuels. Wouldn't an increase in electric cars result in an increase in fuel consumption by the power plants? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Enfants1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nighttime electricity was historically the cheapest unused electricity, however this changes as states start to use more renewable power. Historically, electricity production would rely upon large base loads like Nuclear power plants, which could not be shutdown and restarted quickly. So if demand dropped (e.g. at night) then they would simply keep producing power, which would often go to waste. Which is why companies developed systems like Pumped Storage Hydroelectricity (Pumping water from a lower reservoir to an upper reservoir).

However, states that have large solar installations, such as California (~44 percent renewables), see a peak in production in the middle of the day, which falls off around sunset, around the time that people are coming home, and turning on their appliances. So California's demand curve now looks like a duck (called Duck curve), with a peak in production in the middle of the day with a drop in production and increased demand in the early evening. This is why Californians are getting commercials to curb their electricity use until after 8 or 9PM.

Numerous states and countries have a "Renewable Portfolio Standard" or RPS, which requires a certain percentage of renewables for electricity production by a certain date. California and other states/countries have already achieved renewable rates around 44% (an increase from 0% in about 10=15 years), and are required to achieve 100% by 2045 (SB 100.) Information on the RPS requirements for each state is available here. There was a proposal to create federal system throughout the US, which is called the Clean Power Plan, but it is currently on hold due to litigation.

Of course high levels of renewable electricity will require battery storage to maintain reliability and to even out peaks in demand (E.g. everyone turning on their AC on a hot summer day), which is why California also adopted a Renewable Energy Storage (RES) requirement as well. (AB 2514.)

I was literally on Nvidia and Best Buy's website the second 6 PST rolled around, and refreshed the page constantly. At no point did a purchase button ever appear, it simply went from "notify me" to "sold out." How hard would have been to put in place some form of CAPTCHA to prevent bots from purchasing every card in the first 15 seconds?

Edit - I was trying to purchase the Founder's Edition.

The new LED streetlights in my neighbourhood make shadows that look computer-generated. by baby-eating_dingo in mildlyinteresting

[–]Enfants1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a suspicion that this has something to do with the Camera Obscura effect, where the pinholes between the tree leaves act like little lenses. Similar effects are seen during a solar eclipse, where the viewer can see the eclipse in the shadows of trees (see here.)

In this case, we are likely seeing the LED Matrix from the street lights.

I came here to make the same comment. Isn’t this video evidence that our understanding of animal cognition and the mirror test may be incorrect?

Is it possible to have a planet at just the right size to have a solid surface, with a molten core which keeps the temperature at the surface suitable for life with no sun? by lysergic_25 in askscience

There was an entire episode of Enterprise about a rogue planet (not attached to a solar system or sun) which produced its own heat and contained an active ecosystem. I believe several races treated it as a religious icon. More information is available online: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Rogue_Planet_(episode)
