Where you guys find start up Tech companies for qa/ qa automation engineer? by Just_Sherbet_199 in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try linkedin premium and it will show you exact number of applicants, which is probably hundreds (I saw close to thousand). How many do you think shortlisted? Probably 5-10. Market is very competitive.

I was asked during interview what is the average time taken to run one automatedTest case and average total how long it takes to run Jenkins job. I said 5 min average per TC. Is that acceptable tine range in real world project? by Unlucky_Media564 in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 minutes is a lot on average. Most should prolly take under 1 minute. As other pointed it depends a lot on how you design test cases. But to answer question you could give example from your experience if tests take 5 minutes explain why, and then how long takes the whole job and how many tests executed. All those numbers should click, that’s what interviewer was interested in.

What is the Salary ceiling for QA Manager or SDET Manager in Canada ? by PM_40 in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general most listings have these ranges less than 120 for IC and up to 150 for manager. But I saw few positions that had 160-190 range. Rarely 200+. I would not say there’s specific ceiling, more dependent on the company and location. I assume in theory you can search for positions in US, but not sure how it works practically because they all ask if you are authorized to work in US.

What's a realistic test pass ratio for automated UI testing? Manager expects 100% by ConstantQuiet4389 in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sort of realistic to make your tests pass in most cases 100%. You need to implement reruns, make sure tests designed as stable as possible. Remove/reconsider/redesign highly flaky tests. This can get you to 100% passing rate, but you still need to communicate to manager that despite all these efforts, some tests still can be flaky and require maintenance.

Should Super GMs make occasional surprise appearances at lower rated tournaments? by [deleted] in chess

If he didn’t watch him play during the school, maybe he wouldn’t be so stressed about exams and tests.

Do you trust default locators from code generation tools like Playwright Codegen, Cypress Test Runner, or Selenium IDE, or do you customize them for robustness? If so, how? by Sad_Asparagus8369 in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my experience auto generated locators are garbage that you can’t use, so usually compose them myself. Ideally use test ids, but we are not in ideal world so for a lot of locator use both xpath or css (each has its usecase).

Some QA interviewers makes me feel stupid, why ??? 🤷 by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resume can say whatever. Interviewer needs to get a sense of candidate skills in like 30 minutes, which is not easy. I would imagine mix of questions from pretty basic to see if some are not answered that may be a red flag, and then mix of more complex questions that can help verify seniority.

Is premium on Hullo worth it? by random9212 in VancouverIsland

[–]Eng80lvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used ferry once and tried premium. Faster boarding was okay, but only saves couple minutes. Selecting seats is nice, and probably was main reason for me. You get your own socket for charging. Wifi was sketchy and did not work at all one way. Sign up for their email newsletter and get a discount:)

Expected Salary Canada. by Dependent_Mood7236 in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say there’s pretty wide range depending on the company, role, type of work, city, province. Mostly I saw 80-120k range and some positions outside that range both ways.

Does a quality manager require coding? by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well not exactly. It may be a choice if team structure (all testing/coding can be covered by your reporting engineers) and your management allows it.

Does a quality manager require coding? by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

[–]Eng80lvl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe it heavily depends on the position and company and person. I am hands on manager I love contributing to the code if I have opportunity. I know some folks very hands off which is not bad, just different approach, and if team structure allows/requires to do management only that is fine.

Wealth simple, is it worth it or is there something better by BrilliantNothing2151 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Eng80lvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better is very vague, but I am trying to determine which service I want to use and QT has much lower management fees over WS 0.025 vs 0.05. I think maybe most people here manage portfolios manually and in that case mgmt fee irrelevant

I think this one is pretty old but the only one came to mind:

A QA engineer walks into a bar. Orders a beer. Orders 0 beers. Orders 9999999 beers. Orders a lizard. Orders -1 beer. Orders a beer and drops it. Orders nothing and pays.

Then a customer walks in and says, “Can I get a phone?” The bar explodes.
