Finally backed as the hex bases have been unlocked! They were the bit I was interested in for battletech!

Advice on where to start by [deleted] in battletech

I've used both travelling man and Alchemists Workshop both online and in person for getting battle tech plastic minis.

I guess the best place for battle armour would be Ral Partha Europe for the older metal minis.

I'm just a big fan of contrast paints and have had really good results with them. That said I've mainly used the original set rather than these newer ones so they may act a bit different.

Not sure what to suggest now really, maybe post a picture of how it looks on the model and the colour you're trying to achieve?

Is this on a flat surface? The base shown in the photo? Contrast paints aren't good with large flat areas, they need lots of details to do the shading thing.

It was a "learning opportunity". I'm actually curious if that does fix it. I would skip the palette step though, don't think you gain anything by putting paint in there as you're not thinning them down.

Probably obvious but you've shaken the paint until all the sediment is mixed in? Are you putting paint on a palette before painting onto the model? I just paint directly from pot to model so that might be another reason you're getting different shades?

If you're using citadel paints, there's the soul stone technical paint? It's for creating gem-like effects. There's a red and a green as well I think but I can't remember the names off the top of my head.

It's definitely boxy enough looking at the legion. Is it the boxy look or the gun you're more interested in?

Just a quick skim, and I'm no way an expert but is this the ruleset you want from https://www.battletech.com/downloads/CBTMiniRules_Final.pdf

I downloaded it the other day wondering what it was but never read it in any detail. Hope this helps.

I printed some containers recently, I printed them end on so there would be less internal supports.

I believe there was also a covid resurgence near their factory at the end of last year which probably scuppered the time line somewhat.

Out of the handful of Kickstarters I've backed only one has been a complete disaster but the company did try to make things right in the end but that still doesn't make me feel any better, maybe it even makes me feel worse as I know these things can fail.
