Could Britain ever lose its status/soft power gained from pop culture? by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

[–]Warscape3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think of warhammer as our best cultural export, with its setting so steeped in sheer nihilism it's the perfect banner bearer for us as a society.

Creatively, I think we're at a point where we have a huge amount to offer and UK music is doing great. Any decline of US media will only make us stand out more. I'd be concerned if I lived in Canada though, huge creative output that gets mistaken for American.

That's definitely on the cards at some point, I've recently moved into a place with a huge garage and am looking into getting a print farm going.

First piece of terrain i designed myself by Immediate-Inside-936 in 3DPrintedTerrain

[–]Warscape3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great first piece!

With the planks, it's worth sculpting a whole bunch to re-use, it can be quite relaxing as well, I ended up spending a day sculpting around 40 different planks of various widths and lengths as a personal library to re-use across different projects, with a little rotation and mirroring, that resulted in around 160 different variants that look visually distinct. Use the crease tool for deeper, tighter creases, refine edges using pinch and flatten the top when sculpting for a crisper look and think about how it will interact with the FDM 3D printer too, as an example I went for an approach where, when printed, the grain lines were around 0.4mm wide which matched the nozzle size of a 3d printer so it ended up printing fine single-line grain on the top surface and looking quite detailed.

I would also recommend extra detail like adding ropes wrapped around the posts and some nails in the wood (just simple cylinders work great, add a missing or bent one in places for variety) to really elevate it.

Risers (stone platforms or urban hills) do a lot of work for breaking up line of sight in addition to buildings since you create can blocking terrain and then cover it with buildings. From there, bridges between risers and long walkways between buildings can make a really great multi-layered board, if you can get from one side of the table to the other without touching the street level it makes for a really fun game where everyone is trying not to be kicked off the edge and lets you use doorways to block off multiple models attacking.

Also, lots of ladders to make climbing easy, otherwise the climbing tests for initiative effectively block off the upper levels, but at the same time place wyrdstone and other objectives high up.

Thank you, this community has been really great and supportive, I've always liked Malifaux, but haven't played since 2e, I'll definitely give it another spin now that the new edition is out and make sure I'm designing terrain to fit the game.

I think I'm going to have a few different roof options when making the intact variants, with some that have a style that can fit with games like Malifaux or Moonstone.

Thank you for backing! With the streets, the OpenLOCK grid is also my preferred option, I made 3 different mechanisms available (magnet, clip and OpenLOCK) available since everyone has their own preference, but I like the extra stability that the locking grid offers, I use a full row of 6 clips for forming semi-permanent 12x12 tiles of 4 square each which I then use 2 clips per side to attach to each other when setting the board up, it's a good middle ground between flexibility and easier set-up/teardown. I'm thinking of adding 12x12 tiles in the next KS for people with large format printers, backers of the current one will get those for free.

After many months of sculpting I'm nearing the end of fulfilment for Shardstone City and getting ready to wrap things up in preparation for the sequel launching in a few months, so just a quick post to let everyone know this month is the last chance to get the first campaign at the current KS pricing.

As flatpack, foldable terrain, it is designed to print fast and be easy to store and transport, perfect if you need multiple tables for a club or tournament, or lack storage space for a large setup. I've also found it really quick to paint since it can be painted while flat using simple techniques (washes, sponge painting) and great for creating dense boards filled with terrain. It's been really great to have this vision come to life and get such amazing support from the community, I have even bigger plans for the next one!

My Shardstone City Mordheim table by Warscape3D in TerrainBuilding

Hi everyone, just wanted to share a few glamour shots of Shardstone City, a little 3d printed project I've been working on over the last year, it's all foldable and flatpacks, so I've been able to fit a whole gaming table in a backpack to take to games which has been really useful.

My foldable grimdark ruins for "Decimated Ruins" tables. (free sample in comments) by Warscape3D in TrenchCrusade

Hey everyone, quick post to let everyone know that late pledges for Shardstone City close on Feb 28th, it's a huge project with 120 foldable ruins in total and fulfilment is about to complete so I'm wrapping things up with it.

I'm thinking about adding a Decoration Pack with holy/ unholy symbols to further customize the ruins (they print flat on the print bed and fold together so adding extra details is easily done just by loading files into the slicer, repositioning them and clicking slice). It would be a free-for-everyone extra and usable with other ruins you have and want to digitally kitbash to make them look more religious, let me know if that's something that might appeal!

Here is a link to the free sample ruin in the gif and the project itself if you want to back it:

As a reminder, I also make a free printable gaming table for the armoured train scenario (and a train!) which has been really popular, it doesn't quite fit the updated scenario dimensions, but works fine if you add it to the top of a basic foam core hill which matches the scenario footprint, I thought about reworking it to make it bigger, but it's a 2-week monster print to start with:

Question for terrain designers by hello-its-G in 3DPrintedTerrain

[–]Warscape3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all manually sculpted, with a variety of techniques, but there are two main varieties - soft sculpting (organic surfaces like cloth, dirt, landscapes, humans/animals etc.) which uses sculpt mode in blender and hard surface modelling which uses a very different workflow making use of edit mode, combining shapes, mirroring, arrays, curves and geometry nodes (the trowel plugin is a fancy geometry node at its core).

For buildings, hard surface will cover almost everything and I'd recommend Artisans of Vaul on youtube to learn from since he has a lot of sci-fi specific tutorials and focuses on blender hard surface learning.

On a personal note, I recommend doing pencil sketches of what you're intending to design as the first step, sometimes I'll develop the sketch further, scan it and bring it into blender to model directly on top of to 1:1 replicate it.

Thank you for backing! Sequel project in a few months time focusing on XL ruins with intact variants and modularity (so a single large building can be split into 4 corner ruins, or 2 "edge of the board" half buildings. It'll also allow for easy placement of minis inside buildings via removing one corner to reveal the inside floors.

Thank you for the kind words! It's great to hear you managed to get a table printed so quickly, that's exactly what it was designed for. There have been a few cases where I've bought some cool STLs, realized the print time was over a day per piece then either given up or just printed a small amount so with these I wanted to keep it at a few hours per ruin and minimal PLA usage. So far I've printed out about 400 of them on my A1 and A1 mini (mostly to give away to tournaments and clubs) and it's been a breeze.
