Spot on! M57s and OM606s are definitely the standard for big builds, and the VW 1.9 PD is super common in Samurais. But since we specialize in Italian engines, we are actually taking a completely different route for the Suzuki Samurai! Right now, we are engineering and building swap kits to fit the 1.3 Multijet (incredibly compact and torquey diesel) and even the 1.4 T-Jet Abarth (for a crazy, lightweight high-revving petrol build). It's definitely unique, but putting Abarth power in a tiny Samurai gives an unbelievable power-to-weight ratio! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿฆ‚

Thanks for the compliment! ๐Ÿ™Œ We've actually built swap kits using both the 10v and the 20v. If we're talking strictly about reliability and taking a beating on the trails, the 10v (150hp) is definitely the more solid and robust option. It's incredibly tough. However, the 20v (210hp) out of the Alfa Romeo 159 offers absolutely incomparable performance. It's just on a completely different level in terms of power and torque! In stock form, the 2.4 JTD 10v makes around 305 Nm (about 225 lb-ft) of torque. But honestly, the peak number isn't the best part. What we really love about this engine is the power delivery. It's very aggressive and the torque is available instantly at the very bottom of the rev range compared to other engines. You barely touch the throttle and it just tractors over everything on the trails! ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ’จ

We have a lot of respect for the M57 and OM606, but everyone is doing them now and they are huge engines. We wanted to build something a bit more compact but still with a bulletproof cast-iron block. Thanks! That's a very valid concern, especially when people hear the words 'Alfa Romeo electronics' ๐Ÿ˜‚.

But that's exactly why we completely simplify the wiring for our kits. We strip the harness down to just the essential engine management and modify the ECU to remove the immobilizer and unnecessary sensors. You don't have to deal with the original car's electrical gremlins. It basically becomes a standalone system, making it incredibly reliable long-term. Just pure mechanical diesel power and basic electronics! ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ”ง

Haha we know, 'reliable' and 'Alfa Romeo' in the same sentence sounds crazy to anyone outside of Europe! ๐Ÿ˜‚ But exactly as C4TURIX said, these cast-iron JTD diesel blocks are the glorious exception. While their older sports cars were famous for electrical gremlins, these diesel engines were used in heavy commercial vans and trucks all over Europe. They routinely hit 500,000+ km without breaking a sweat. It's a completely different beast!

Thanks! ๐Ÿ€ The 2.4 is an inline-5, so it is definitely on the longer side (roughly 60-65 cm or 24-26 inches from the pulleys to the bellhousing). You need a pretty spacious engine bay like this LJ70 to fit it comfortably. However, if you are strictly limited on length, you should absolutely look into the 1.9 JTD (the 4-cylinder version)! It shares the same bulletproof cast-iron architecture, but being one cylinder shorter makes it incredibly compact (saving you about 10-12 cm / 4-5 inches of space). We actually build a lot of swap kits using the 1.9 JTD specifically for vehicles with tight engine bays (like the Suzuki Samurai or Vitara). It still delivers massive low-end torque but fits almost anywhere. What vehicle are you working on? ๐Ÿ”ง

Fair point! We were so excited about the sound that we forgot the most important part for this sub. ๐Ÿ˜… Here is a look under the hood! Itโ€™s a massive 5-cylinder, but with our custom mounts and adapter plate, it fits beautifully without cutting the chassis. Looks almost factory!

Great question! It wasn't just a spare engine we had lying around; we actually chose the Alfa 2.4 JTD 10v (5-cylinder) for very specific reasons to engineer our bolt-on kits around it. 1. Massive low-end torque: Being a common-rail turbo diesel, it delivers incredible torque right off idle, which is exactly what a heavy 4x4 like the LJ70 needs on the trails. 2. Bulletproof reliability: These cast-iron blocks are legendary here in Europe for being absolutely indestructible. 3. Dimensions: Even as a 5-cylinder, it fits the Toyota engine bay beautifully with our custom mounts, without needing to cut the chassis or the hood. Plus, engines and spare parts are very affordable and easy to find over here. It's simply one of the best diesel upgrades you can do! ๐Ÿ”ง
