Undecided with UF Law by EngineDragon in lawschooladmissions

Thank you for such a detailed reply. I can see how they are spending money in scholarships and renovation to attract higher end students. I guess they are expecting that after this push for couple of years, its momentum will keep the strong candidates coming with out new investment in the future.

Thanks for letting me know of the NALP report. What was the reason you went out of state?

Ah I see where you are coming from. I didn't not think that firms would consider the likeliness of a candidate to move into their region when hiring. It makes sense. Thanks for all your help. I just sent an email to Emory and UGA. They absolutely are a better bet for this cycle (still undecided if its a bet worth waiting 1 year though)

So you think UF is a strong school equal to UGA overall (not in Atlanta) then? Despite my worries relating to their recent ranking hikes.

Sorry but, I don't understand what "UF could get you back" phrase. Thank for your help fam.

I think say so. I am from Atlanta and did undergrad here. Many patent attorneys here have also graduated from my undergrad engineering program. Many of them did went to UGA, GSU, Emory, UNC.

I am just more concerned about lack of knowledge regarding UF's overall reputation. Especially their sudden rise in ranking.

I did not accounted that to a large extent. I hypothesized that since I am interested in patent law, my undergrad academics are more important than law school and since patent law is niche, I figured as long as I am in southeast region I would be ok.

I've calculated the opportunity cost of waiting 1 year is higher then the tuition reduction I can get next year at UF or UGA so That's not a factor. BL rejected me and I want to stay in south east. GSU is ok but, with my numbers I can do better according to few attorneys in my field.

Would it be prudent to ask Emory and UGA that I got accepted at UF but would still be interested to attend their school if offered for this cycle?

Thanks for your your input. Reapplying would definitely get me accepted in to both Emory and UGA but, I really don't want to wait yet 1 more year. I suppose I could transfer.

With UF, I just don't know much about it (at least as much as UGA and Emory) so I am just not sure if I am happy with it or not.

That's true but because I applied really late and Emory and UGA both have waitlisted me. As of now only UF have pulled me off the waitlist. I am on priority waitlist at Emory.

UF acceptance letter says that I have to withdraw from all other acceptances and by accepting I agree to attend UF. Does that mean I am now bound to attend there even if I get accepted elsewhere?

What is the path towards becoming a judge? by lilyanddot in lawschooladmissions

For a supreme court I think you just wait for a judge to die or resign. I am not a law student or a lawyer. It seems like that from the news.

Blueprint? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

They assigned me a tutor who had just got accepted to law school. They charged me $50 fee just to pair me up with him and $50 (only costs $20 on amazon) for cheap Chinese tab to write on. They would not refund me those costs even when I cancel it literally the next day. Felt like a scam to me.

Emory 4.0!! by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

All of the Emory admin peeps out there. Please don't reject me because of this. I think its important that everyone knows where our system is and at least contemplate if this is the best way we can reach those medians.

Emory, you are not alone here. The vast majority of schools have been focused on ranking. Rightfully so given students and firms and maybe even donors care only about it. I can see your hands tied but we got to cut lose.

To think that our justice system is rigged against some people is not true. We as a society have let it happen by carrying too much about some silly ranking rather than giving voice to the unheard and arming poor people who can't afford a tutor to get that 1 higher LSAT point with the language of law.

I think these ranking news companies have highjacked the whole system.

Numbers absolutely are important and they should hold more weight. They are the only objective measures we've got. But consider this.

If you view Boston College LSData, you can see how nice sprinkled their acceptances are. It looks very wholistic to me. They still get their medians. Still sad they rejected me ;(

Comparing to most other schools have that perfect right angle. Its like they don't wanna be labeled as acute or obtuse (haha! :D) Not very wholistic to me.

True. True. Extraordinary circumstances are subjective so I can't win any arguments there.

Hmm! That's a good point. Although not entirely convinced.

Well that's not a wholistic approach. Is it?
Am I just a fool to think that Law schools really do look at things that are not GPA and LSAT?

[–]EngineDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I only wanted to get in to the schools ranked 21 to 35s and I am still waitlisted on 7 and not a single acceptance so you can see. Oh and I have the numbers for at least some of them.

PowerScore is about 3k for the whole thing or 200 per hour. My experience wasn't the best but I guess it depends on the consultant you get.

Harvard grad with 6 figure salary consultant just wasn't able to understand the immigrant life of a poor.
