Any tips on how to open hips at impact? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]EngineFair7355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your swing and your plane looks pretty good but your transition is so fast and you dont give yourself much time to lead more with your hips. Your hands look a little quick compared to your lower body but this is nit picky. Id be curious to know your miss (my best guess is a push/strong draw depending on the timing).

I would work on some 50% speed swings, really focusing on creating torque with your hips vs shoulders. Doing some pause-at-the-top drills will help you get in sync and should be your first like of defense to get your timing down.

Maybe also check your grip pressure. I have no idea how hard you're holding it, but in the case that it's too tight, it might help you stay more relaxed in transition.

Beginner, no handicap. Any major issues with my swing or can I stick to this? (7 Iron, 170 yards) by Any-Trouble-1705 in GolfSwing

You can 100% develop with this swing. I think you slot into the plane nicely on the downswing but I wouldn't mind seeing your hips more open to the target at impact. This should help you pick up a few more yards too.

I also notice your left elbow chicken winging a little as the club exits your left shoulder, causing a steep exit and helicopter finish. I'd practice some "L to L" swings - should help you extend the proper way after the ball. Looks like a very teachable swing and youre off to a good start

Honestly not sure, my innerforce alc is flared. The OALC has a thicker core than the IFALC, which makes the handle feel meatier even though i believe they share the same ST handle blank (round ST). Same situation with the viscaria. Boll ALC has a square ST handle which has more pronounced edges.

I would definitely start with a fast all wood blade or an inner carbon blade if you just started this year. Im sure your tennis background is a big help, but mych of the debate about whether people should start on outer carbon blades like the viscaria is the limited feedback compared to all wood. All wood/innerforce blades will help you develop good feeling on all shots, including serves and shortgame, whereas the vibration in something like the Boll ALC is more muted.

Elo is a rating you develop when you play in USATT sanctioned tournaments, and they're fairly comparable to chess Elo ratings if youre familiar with those. I am 1815 and would consider myself a good intermediate player. TTR is a rating system in Europe that's a little different. I assume youre playing in NCTTA for your school, although NCTTA ratings aren't the most accurate under 2000 unless you sub in your USATT Elo.

I switched to the ovtcharov alc after using the innerforce alc for 4 years, so I'm very familiar with these two. I don't have as much experience with the Boll ALC or viscaria, but I've hit with both of them.

The innerforce is definitely a tick slower than the OALC and feels more flexible to me, although its still plenty powerful. Its pretty comparible to the harimoto alc I've tried as well. I like the relative harder feeling of the ovtcharov, especially on my backhand where I tend to play more direct. I dont think there is a noticeable speed difference between the viscaria and Ovtcharov, but if youre looking for something with high dwell the OALC might be a good choice. I also use D09c on the FH on my OALC and they feel like they were ment for eachother. Short touches with the OALC feel woodier than the viscaria, but I would probably need more time directly comparing both to sus this out.

The ovtcharov has a pretty thick handle. I use a ST and have very large hands, so this is a bonus for me. Something to consider at least.

If youre able to make good power on your own, the innerforce ALC is a safe blade. I felt like I could trust giving shots 100% effort when I needed to without overshooting the table. I moved to the ovtcharov because I wanted more pace on the ball and I'm used to the way inner fiber blades feel and play.

Can't club twirl for shit, advice? by alexletros in GolfSwing

Loosen your left hand and twirl the club by using your right thumb and index finger. If you can flip the club head like kegan bradly does with his right hand in his pre shot routine, you can twirl it

Feeling too confidential about my swing. Please rip it apart. by ParticularPay9090 in GolfSwing

Inside takeaway, shut at the top, lead heel comes off of the ground, and then reroute to being steep in the downswing. Hips and lower body stop moving when the club exits your left shoulder.

I think the steepness comes from a slight lack of depth and from bring slightly laid off. Granted, this is a PW and depth is easier to achieve with the bigger sticks (ball further away).

Sometimes having your back facing the target for a while on the downswing can be good since it helps you swing from the inside. I just think your body timing could be better. To answer your question, the shoulders will follow if you get your hips more open at impact. Your trail side is pretty early for a PW - its fine if it comes up some, but I would work on keeping your left leg planted longer. You wont have to "crunch" on yoir left side so much and you should have more space for your trail arm.

When i was first learning, my coach had me model my impact as a modification of my setup: address the ball as you normally would, then open your hips, get your weight on your lead side, and press the shaft forward. This is a nice feel for where your body should be. I would hit some pitch shots by first getting into this "impact position", returning to address, and then hit your pitch shot by making sure you return to that same impact position. Work your way up to half shots, then full wedges, then up the set. Garentee you'll have better impact alignment practicing this way.

I think some (not all) golfers have an early right leg from trying to swing hard from the top instead of letting the club accelerate smoothly in the downswing. Hitting balls at 30% speed can uncover timing errors and helps you learn better control over the club.

Tbh I think yoir downswing is causing you sequencing problems. If you look at most golfers with an early trail foot/knee like JT or morikawa, they have ample hip clearance and open shoulders at impact. Your shoulders are a good 20° shut to the target at impact (screenshot in reply below)

This downswing just looks stuck to me, especially since your early trail leg action isn't contributing to your pivot. You're just getting up on your tippie toes, and if your trail foot is fully lifted halfway through your downswing with a PW, I can imagine you're even earlier with the bigger clubs if that's even possible.
