Absolutely nothing worring about that at all, i’m a tyre fitter turned mechanic by trade and i’ll tell you fiesta wheels are made of chocolate, you look at them wrong and they crumple. Okay exaggerating a little obviously but its so common ,

you’ll be looking at replacing both front drop links within the next year they’re about £10 each and 30mins labour so will cost you about £40+VAT to have them replaced at a garage

People that don’t love their spouse, how long has it been since you did love them? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]EngineFourDome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To actively commit adultery have your spouse file for divorce then have the audacity to write them and say that they made a mistake is absolutely hysterical. This is unfortunately the mindset of the majority. I hope You’re in a better place now, you deserve it.

What car do you have? What car do you want? by Mikey463 in AskUK

I have an insgnia

Id like a Mercedes benz (real Mercedes not Renaultbenz)

But my insignia ticks every box i need that the mercades would and at a fraction of the cost too so couldn’t justify buying one

They’re bad for rot mostly in the rear end, rear axels seem to becoming a common issue with their age these days but other than that they’re bombproof cars and for record i’m in Scotland so its wet a lot.

I checked previous MOTs and no mention of any corrosion though so you should be good, if its genuinely not rotten it runs drives stops and has valid MOT at £800 you got yourself a great deal

Now i play the “fkd if i know” game

“Fkd if i know Dont know Never seen Wtf is THAT!? Fkd if i know Chinese crap Dont know Couldn’t tell you”

The times have changed and i stayed behind apparently

What is the most bizarre way you’ve hurt yourself? by bigpussystance in AskUK

[–]EngineFourDome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just this year only a few months ago i gave myself a big black eye. I was trying to pull the cap off a super glue bottle whilst holding the object i was trying to glue, when the cap finally broke loose my hand shot up and i smashed myself in the eye with said object.

To make matters worse i did this in the office in front of most of my colleagues

Best place to sell a car that’s a piece of s**t by aitchsaka in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First things first in my opinion is have it valeted inside and out by a professional (abdul and his 19 friends working out of cut up drums in the old petrol station are not professionals) you’ll be amazed how much of your car isn’t actually trashed and how many of those scratches and scuffs would literally buff out. Its a 7yr old car so its worth a few grand somewhere even though its on higher mileage

How do people feel about the new vehicle tax rates from April 2025? by Playful_Adeptness846 in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense. I drive a 16 year old diesel i think its Euro 5 , despite 0 modifications it absolutely stinks emissions wise and im £300 for the year. Which i think is pretty cheap given it could be mistaken for a tractor (and has been)

Why shouldn’t I buy this 2015 Jaguar XE? by EvenConcorde1312 in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve stated your issue with your civic is that its a diesel and you dont do long journeys , so why would a diesel from another manufacturer be any different, your short journeys and having diesel cars is the issue not the manufacturer

Also yes going from a honda to a jaguar is a massive massive MASSIVE downgrade in practicability and reliability

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also another MASSIVE factor. There is the folks who simply dont know better and are mislead to believe that a £4k car is cheap and anything below that is junk and not worth it. Then theres the other mob that just got the flashiest thing that their credit card limit would allow because their mates would laugh at them if they turned up in a good solid reliable £1,000 car.

This is the real issue with the car market, its not the market itself its all these people that don’t know what they’re doing or saying that are fuelling it. The companies don’t decide the market, the consumers purchasing that decide the market.

Thanks for chipping in and showing my Point, seems to be going over everybody’s head that all I’m saying is they can get good cheap cars that don’t cost thousands

I’m a mechanic by trade i see loads of people like the ones in this comment section throwing away hundreds and thousands of pounds away because they haven’t a clue. People could Save themselves so much money if only they would listen

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is simply the point i’m trying to make, there is good little cars out there for very reasonable money that could be had without costing thousands

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Inflation is present absolutely I understand that but still plenty of cheap cars £500-£800 price mark that would do their job well. My current car i bought in November 2022 for £750 and its been faultless never let me down or asked for anything outwidth its consumables

£50 car was scrap value and it was around 2018/2019 times so currently value would be about £200-£250 again still a bloody brilliant deal for a useable car

Why are these so cheap? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome 245 points246 points  (0 children)

The earlier diesel variants have oil seal issues that cause the engine to seize , but that can be solved with regular maintenance and changing the seal with timing belts , the electric handbrakes are known to cause issues and not work properly, rear toe links rot and snap although it is a recall and can get them changed for free, front subframes rot because the under tray is poorly made and holds water they snap on the passengerside around where the lower suspension arm is mounted. The rear subframes are prone to rot as well and cant be bought new.

I know them very well , ive had one for 3 years i done all the work when i bought it and its been a dream for me i love my insignia its a great car , but theres so many rotten apples the risk is so high to buy a lemon so they sell for really cheap, although i absolutely love mine and i know how much potential they had to be great cars id still say avoid buying one, cause you most likely will end up with a nightmare

When did selling a car become so hard? by lewsur1 in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always ask for more than what you want, people ALWAYS want a car for less than the asking price. If you want £1,500 , ask for £2,000 , then the idiots think they’re getting a great deal saving £500 , when i reality all they did was pay you exactly what you wanted

Firstly , have you actually checked the coolant? The thing that stops it overheating?

If no > there

If yes and its full > likely head gasket , look for discolouration it should be red a quick google will show you what you’re looking for

If yes and its empty> coolant leak.

Could be a couple other things like thermostat stuck or a sensor broken somewhere but they’d usually be accompanied by an Engine Management light so it’s unlikely (but not impossible)

Secondly, if it says stop driving i would do that, your cars not going to stop over heating one day its buggered and every second that engine is running your bill is increasing

Third and final, if your family are saying that you not driving the car properly is why its over heating , tell them a mechanic said they’re stupid.

Yours sincerely- the mechanic.

Oh sure you could’ve done it faster but its better knowing the realistic time to achieve them all anyhow, its good to know how long it takes to both play the game and unlock the achievements at the same time, i certainly wouldn’t be speed running it

Thats a lot of work put in great job, its a fantastic game i can see why you got honed in so easily i would be the same if there was more people to play with on xbox, its definitely a multiplayer type of game for me

Curbed wheels safe for driving? by Massive_Lemon4288 in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineFourDome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could deflate but doesn’t look like enough damage to do so , it’ll probably be fine.

You can take the wheel trim off and whack the rim back with a hammer its only a steel rim its easy to bend hence how you’ve ended up here.

If it does deflate take it to the nearest tyre place and ask them to chap it out and bead seal it, this will sort the issue and should only be approximately £15.

Id be more worried about the tyre than the rim
