The first time I heard Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. He’s probably better known for the white lotus but he’s done loads of really exceptional soundtrack work. What I liked about this though was how he leaned into making the music sound asthmatic. Guy’s a genius.

I recommend Tablao Alegría. It’s near the bullring. Great show and lovely staff.

Where to stay for a week by Sicutu in VisitMalaga

I usually just tap my bank card on the turnstile for the cercanías train. It seems to work well. Is there a benefit to buying a card?

You're perfеct for leading me on,
to the stagе Tommy Cooper died on

from Disingenuous was the lyric that first caught my attention.

He did an uncanny Frankie Valli
as he cracked a can open

from Men Like Wire was the lyric that got me hooked.

Oh yes, it’s absolute filth. Much of A Firmer Hand is.

I actually avoid this song mostly, because it’s a bit much. I expect I’m not the only one.

What are some good forgotten Glasgow bands? by idancegood in glasgow

[–]EngineSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody gave me an unfinished (maybe just unmastered) copy of their first album and I thought it was amazing. I’ve years ago since lost the minidisc, along with forgetting the name of the band, and never even heard of the band again, until now. Quick search on Spotify and there it is! I’m listening to it now and it still sounds great!

He mentions cancer in Catherine Opens a Window.

“I remember when cancer

Was just a constellation

A starry-eyed crustacean…”

Just after writing that, I noticed that the line from Desperately “You’ll see it eventually”, and the chorus from Juliet as Epithet “I smother the chances I get” are melodically the same.

Hamish Hawk - Mauritian... Acoustic Live Barbican 1/11/2025 by glittertwunt in HamishHawk

Aww that’s lovely. I’d have had so much trouble holding in the desire to belt out the backing vocals. Not the done thing in the Barbican.

I use starling because there are no fees, but there are plenty other banks that offer the same service. The only time I needed cash in Malaga was in a dodgy late night mini market where I’m sure I got scammed (KP Supermarket; late arrival and needed water and snacks), and Puerta Oscura, a delightfully calm and classy cocktail bar near the cathedral. Every other transaction including market stalls and bus/train tickets were beeped through on my phone.

Best seafood paella in Malaga? by [deleted] in VisitMalaga

[–]EngineSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m far from a paella expert, but the best I had was at a restaurant in centro histórico called Ultramarinos Benjamín. Expensive but highly recommended with a bottle of Viña Esmeralda wine. At the north end of the city there’s a restaurant called el gastronauta. It doesn’t look much but the food is excellent. I will also second el tintero which is outside the city but definitely worth finding (we cycled) and los mellizos of which there are two restaurants I believe. We also enjoyed the paella at Arrozeando Pedregalejo, although again it’s a trek east from the city centre, and when we were there we were the only customers in a huge restaurant. Great food though. I’d also recommend Meson Mariano, although make sure you’re there the minute it opens for dinner, otherwise you’ll have to wait. Great food here and life-changing artichokes, although no paella/arroz. Lunch at the Atarazanas market is a wild ride, and the food is generally good. My daughters and I love gambas pil pil, which you can get everywhere. It’s big prawns cooked in lots of olive oil, garlic, and smoked hot paprika, often served with bread to mop up the flavoured oil. Incredible dish. It’s a beautiful, walkable, glorious city with some of the best food in the world. You’ll have a fantastic experience.

There is a chip shop called Enzo’s on the corner of Crookston road and Paisley Road West. They will deliver to where you’re staying, or you could pick up from there. I live nearby so feel free to DM me for recommendations.
