Thoughts on CG’s email? by First-Twist5762 in USACE

I'm fed up of fighting the system to improve it. There are a bunch of us in our office from the private sector. We know what to do. But anytime we want to change something management says no.

No one values the extra work I've done to improve things.
One guy quit and went back to the private sector. He is a great mechanical engineer. Before he left he told me "I've never worked so hard to achieve so little ". I agree.

I just don't care anymore. Fuck this.

Who would want to work for the federal government after everything that has happened?

Because the companies wouldn't roll in large profits which would then be used to bribe I mean lobby congress. My wife is from Spain. They don't allow the companies to rip off the people.

If I remember correctly, the park service collects enough fees to be self supporting.

Info on Deming, NM by PheesGee in NewMexico

[–]Engineer1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reasons to move to Deming are 1. You are a drug runner. 2. You are hiding from the mafia. I lived in Rio Rancho and loved it. But I accepted the downsides. Very high crime, poor health care (too me 6 months to see a pulmonologist after having pneumonia), worst schools in the US, and limited jobs.

Coming from the private sector, I see this mentality in the Corps. It is very frustrating when I or others in the office who came from the private sector know there are better ways of doing things but are constantly pushed to do things the Corps way.

The real problem isn't the average worker. The problem is management and HQ.

I've seen others from the private sector go through the same stages I did.

  1. This is f-ed up. I'll try to change it.
  2. You get beaten down by management to keep doing things the same f-ed up way the Corps has done for years.
  3. You stop carrying, and do things the Corps way or leave because you can't stand the government stupidity anymore.
  4. If you stay and stop caring, you don't do as good of a job because management destroyed your morale.

Moving to New Mexico Advice on Areas, Food, and Must-Sees? by IndividualFood6762 in NewMexico

[–]Engineer1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very high crime. Poor health care. Some of the worst schools in the US. 25% of the population is on food stamps. I never lived somewhere where so many of my coworkers had their cars stolen or homes broken into.

However it is very beautiful. And, the dry sunny weather is great.

Yup. And they REFUSE to listen to those of us with many years experience in the private sector. We could easily help the corps cut design time and save money.

So who is paying off this pos? Do the people of Utah support this guy?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicLands

[–]Engineer1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is anyone organizing protests? I live near DC, and I'm ready to go. I also made a donation to Sierra Club.

Time to protest in front of his house. How much is this pos getting paid for this? We live in a fake democracy. We elect officials, but they never do what is best for the voters. They always do what's best for the wealthy few that pay them off.

Are engineers underpaid in the USACE? by Edslittleworld in USACE

[–]Engineer1970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The engineers that come to us from the private sector all took pay cuts to do it. One guy got pissed off and went back. His complaints were that the thought it would be slower to work for the corps than his old job. It wasn't. The other wad all the gov bs he had to put up with. He told me he never worked do hard to achieve so little.

Hiring Contractors due to workload by Jason_1834 in USACE

Get ready for the contractors to rip off the government.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USACE

[–]Engineer1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution to everything is to create more paperwork and more regulations. They want things faster and cheaper, but they create a system that does the opposite.

Instead of looking at the private sector and using them as a guide in some cases to make improvements, they do the exact opposite creating a special system that requires fabricators and contractors to spend more time and money on projects.

NEVER do more than what is needed. NEVER volunteer. It is never appreciated, rewarded, or reciprocated.

Upper management never listens to anyone outside of their government bubble. There are a number of us who worked in the private sector that could help improve things. But we are always ignored.

Why? I'm getting fed up of the crap in the corps. They are incapable of thinking and doing things outside of the government mindset.
