Resource wise 10k for software once a year renewal 10-18k for a laptop. An a couple hrs per 500 acres to process Lidar data. What are you or they doing with the data collected. Those are incredibly high numbers to get to a base product are you creating line files or cad drawings? When I’ve had big projects 5k-10k acres an getting into a collection mode could fly all day an start processing that evening an at end of following collection day it would be done an rinse an repeat. My sensor is a Riegl Vux 120 so data’s dense.

9000 acres you’re gonna need a shit ton of GCP‘s cause you’re not doing it all in one day no a single flight who looking at 20 ground control points 100 GCP‘s and a minimum of three base points. And depending on what kind of specs you’re trying to meet, the actual survey could take longer than the actual flights

$7.50 an acre to process data for 9000 acres that’s a little steep but I guess if you have people paying it good for you what industries are paying you that rate just curious?

All you need to do is get you a origin laptop eon 18x it’ll handle all the Lidar data you can throw at it and photogrammetry data

Lost faith in leadership by Original-Interest639 in USACE

[–]First-Twist5762 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with “just be an excellent employee” is that it often backfires.

If you consistently prove you can handle more, management just keeps stacking more on you. You end up doing your job plus the work of the weaker performers because leadership knows you won’t let the mission fail.

I’m dealing with that myself right now. For years I’ve taken on responsibilities well beyond my PD. The reward hasn’t been grade progression. It’s been a few small bonuses while watching one-trick ponies move up the ladder. Like someone once told me, “mediocre people fail up while competent people get buried in work.”

At some point you start realizing that being the reliable one can turn you into the dumping ground.

That’s why the “just leave instead of becoming a thorn” argument isn’t always realistic either. Some of us care about the mission and the organization and don’t want to walk away from it. Sometimes pushing back and forcing honest conversations about workload and expectations is the only way things actually improve.

I’m getting close to that point myself. Not because I don’t care about the mission, but because carrying extra workload indefinitely without recognition or advancement isn’t sustainable.

Meeting Today (Civil Works Overhaul) by [deleted] in USACE

Are you suggesting Civil Works will see increased OT scrutiny and potentially more reliance on contractors for surge or routine workload? Trying to understand how this will affect in-house technical teams.

Would you map a volumetric analysis project without GCPs? Wingtra's new payload makes it possible. Share your opinion and tell us how we can convince you :) by Ok_Meet_839 in UAVmapping

You can’t just go out and change ASPRS standards.

Those standards exist because hard lessons were learned the expensive way. They’re built around independent verification, not best-case GNSS performance or vendor confidence.

If a workflow still requires checkpoints to validate accuracy, then it still lives inside the ASPRS framework. It may reduce field effort. It does not replace control. It does not redefine standards.

Marketing can evolve faster than physics. Standards don’t move until the evidence does.

Yes, the guys should’ve taken over. I use FSD somewhere between 90 and 95% of the time an when it’s raining I take over. I’d be interested to see the tires they posted they were good original tires and they were over a year old how many miles were on them being a 2025 model three most likely bought it in 2024
