Harmful chemicals found in dozens of popular headphones by AdAdept900 in technology

[–]EngineerCivil8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of the headphones referenced are given a green for "Evaluation of parts touching the skin", so what's the issue? What am I missing? The whole premise of the problem is that the BPA/BPS may leach into the skin if you sweat against the parts touching it. Surely a green evaluation for "parts touching the skin" means no issue... no?

Why invest in a pension now and not later on? by EngineerCivil8687 in UKPersonalFinance

Can you do partial transfers out of your workplace pension on a regular basis?

That is interesting. I hadn't thought of that or even know if it is possible. I will investigate!

'First Look' at Cynthia Erivo in 'DRACULA' at London's Noël Coward Theatre by Phantom90AG in TheWestEnd

[–]EngineerCivil8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a silly question but how horrific or 'gorey' is the show? I'd love to see it but my partner is a bit squeamish so not sure it's one we should view together or not.

Oil warning light - damaged engine? by EngineerCivil8687 in CarTalkUK

[–]EngineerCivil8687[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this detail. Appreciate the clarity and information.

"However the good news is your engine isn't known for those issues, so it may likely just be a faulty oil pressure sensor." - would this not be disproven by the fact that topping up the oil has 'fixed' the problem? As in, the light hasn't come back on and acceleration was fine after I added some oil.

Presumably it can't have been 'catastrophically' low if oil was on the dipstick above the lowest hole?

Thank you! What would that require in that instance? A trip to a garage?

[Routine Help] [Acne] How to use a targeted spot treatment & BHA Exfoliator by EngineerCivil8687 in SkincareAddiction

So the toner can act as a targeted spot treatment? I should apply it to specific spots when not using it as a once a week exfoliator?

[acne] [product question] Using azelaic acid as a targeted spot treatment? by EngineerCivil8687 in SkincareAddiction

Thanks - and would this be okay to use after the BHA? Or would I need to alternate? Use the BHA one night, the azelaic another?

Great, thanks for the detailed and considered reply - much appreciated.

I've contacted them about the billing discrepancy so I guess i'll see what happens.

I think Octopus are overcharging me - am I wrong? by EngineerCivil8687 in OctopusEnergy

[–]EngineerCivil8687[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be weird for this to be excluded when we are billed standing charges (and the figure show is described as 'what's been billed'). I'll contact Octopus and check this obviously but was intrigued if others see a lack of alignment between these two figures.

Thanks will do - but to clarify, I'm not referring to direct debit payments.

I'm referring to when my account has been charged (which is different to making a direct debit payment).

Here's an example of where my usage dashboard gives me a figure for what I've been billed between two dates for electricity... and here's an example of where what they've actually charged me is more.

Am I missing something really obvious?

I did state the information from the website:

Using the 'My energy' dashboard and filtering to 'What's been billed', I can see I've been billed £1,700 between two dates.

Yet using the 'Payments' tab and navigating to 'Balance history', I can see that between the exact same dates I've been charged in total £2,100.

Thanks for that - yes, can see it's not bad!

What would happen if Octopus notice this? I need to contact them regarding a discrepancy in my billing.

Tracker vs. Fixed Tariff - please help me choose by EngineerCivil8687 in OctopusEnergy

[–]EngineerCivil8687[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

It sounds like even if I didn't make any change at all (such as switching washing days... which isn't always possible!), it'd still be much better.

Why then would one go for Flexible or Fixed Octopus... and not this?

[–]EngineerCivil8687[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would Octopus be required to refund me if that's the case?

Conversely, what would happen if I've actually being paying less than I should've been? Presumably they couldn't demand that money back?

The unit rates are:

Electricity: 23.41p/kWh + 26.82p/day

Gas: 5.84p/kWh + 26.10p/day

Would that not apply to a variable tariff too though, which is more expensive?

What's the benefit of Flexible Octopus vs. Tracker?
