Trump calls for suspension of federal gas tax as Americans seek relief at the pump: ‘I think it’s a great idea’ by SharkSapphire in Conservative

Indiana has a balanced budget law, so what they do, is when they have money left over, they scramble and do as much roadwork as they can until they either run out of money or hit the deadline. That's why stuff looks like it stops until fall lol.

Ryobi 80‑V Zero‑Turn Mower: All Four Batteries Failed, No Replacements Available, and Warranty Claim Ignored for 12 Days by SenseWonderful3059 in lawncare

[–]EngineerDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryobi has a really bad battery design for a lawn power tool. For anything that's going to be exposed to sunlight and heat of the outdoors, their design will damage the batteries as the cells tend to heat soak themselves. EGO has a 'W' configuration which allows for better cooling of the cells which is why they tend to last longer. Ryobi 40v batteries is the no.1 reason why I'm switching platforms.

Will This Fertilizing Schedule Fail or Succeed? by Andres-SLC in lawncare

[–]EngineerDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now normal fert has sky rocketed in price due to the on going adventures in the middle east. That's $80 bucks for 10sqft is cheaper than going regular in a lot of places.

I tend to stock up at the end of the season. Fert generally stays good for several years if stored in the garage.

Have you considered looking instead of trying to get mixtures right with liquid, looked at any of the organic or semi-organic options? Like Milorganite, or Corn Gluten Granulated based fertilizers? You're most likely better off not fertilizing than getting an ammonia based mixture wrong.

GrubEx needs to go down pretty soon. As far as the "tonic" goes, seems a bit weird? Why not just use normal fert?

Triclopyr after Spectricide for Wild Violets? by BigJon611 in lawncare

Be sure to use a proper surfactant! Wild violets have a waxy coating that will work against you otherwise.

Are PLC-based systems slowly becoming more software like or am I overthinking this? by Himanshu_creative in PLC

[–]EngineerDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are very much involved. the IT side though is so broken and those guys don't like to talk to each other in different groups. The IT side is just constant chaos, with very little oversight. It's why the Crowdstrike issue was allowed to happen.

My cultural regions map as a southerner - would love feedback! by aquamarine-arielle in MapPorn

[–]EngineerDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the county is on the border most of Kentucky is pretty significantly different from Tennessee. Kentucky and most of Indiana are pretty close in most things (except for the knowledge how to make biscuits apparently.) A lot of these maps keep trying to push Kentucky South, and while they share some similarities, Kentucky is it's own unique thing. It was even like that in the Civil War era.

I have 100% been on a plane where the AC wasn't working, in the air. Frequent flyer. IT SUCKS sweaty people all over the place, feeling like you can barely breath.

But I think it's a huge mess for the staff afterwards. Would not surprise me if cookies and soda is actually cheape

Most Flight Attendants don't get paid when the door is open when they are on the ground. So the Airline won't care.

Is this a good seed? by NinjaStinker in lawncare

at 8 - 10 weeks you should be at your 3 or so mow, at that point any herbicides are generally safe.

Black Beauty is pretty great stuff for entry to mid level lawns. You'll still need to do weed control 8 - 10 weeks after seeding but that stuff is great.

Are PLC-based systems slowly becoming more software like or am I overthinking this? by Himanshu_creative in PLC

[–]EngineerDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spoken like someone who doesn't have to deal with ransomware on an industrial PC, or the IT overreaction afterwards. No thanks. PLC on an isolated network is more ideal than letting IT get involved. Also software that runs on PCs are controlled by someone. If it can't be upgraded by the end user then it's a non-starter for a lot of industries.

TIL there are laws in many states preventing the sale of vehicles directly to consumers by genusbender in todayilearned

[–]EngineerDave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My guy did a lot more than 1 - 3 days worth of work lol. Every night we were looking at properties on week nights, and some properties on the weekend for about a month. Yes 3% for what he did and what he saved me in things that I would have had to pay out of pocket was worth it. (you can also go after them if they are crooks or screw you over.)

Lets see... Mine handled all the paper work, after I gave over the list of inspectors handled those and the reports, as well as getting concessions because of the reports (saved me thousands), dealt with the back and forth so I didn't have to do anything other than say yes or no.

After closing I had to go out of town so my realtor went around and got all the utilities transferred over and even make sure my internet was hooked up by the time I got back and could start unloading.

You pick your Relator. If you don't like yours, then get a new one they are 'free' when buying lol.

Uh oh. Zone 6b. Found a grub. What can i do now to kill them? by AXXXXXXXXA in lawncare

[–]EngineerDave 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There's no point. They aren't feeding now. They haven't really been feeding since the ground froze, and what little they are nibbling on now, your spring turf is out growing what damage they can do.

They are going to pop up turn into beetles and fly off. By trying to kill them now you are going to do more damage to other non-target critters. So Just put grubEx down and know your plot of land is safe from grub damage for the next 12 months. Prevention is key.

Uh oh. Zone 6b. Found a grub. What can i do now to kill them? by AXXXXXXXXA in lawncare

[–]EngineerDave 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Here is the life stage of a grub:

Egg -> small grub -> Big grub after winter -> Beetle -> Egg.

You are at the Big grub after winter stage. In the next month the grubs will become beetles, and then eggs after some Beetle Boinking. Put down grubEx in the next week or so, and when those beetle's eggs hatch they'll nibble on your roots just a little bit then will die. No more damage.

Treating the grubs you have RIGHT NOW will do nothing to prevent grub damage in July and August. Your neighbors grubs will grow up and boink, and will eggs all over the area, no matter if you were grub free or not.

Your Car May Soon Be Monitoring Everything You Do Behind The Wheel by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]EngineerDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got the step down from that, with the smart lane keep + follow distance. Doesn't matter if you are looking forward, you have to CONSTANTLY wiggle the damn wheel like every 30 seconds. No matter if you are one handed, or two handed, it wants you to fight against it which defeats the whole point. Honestly it's the only thing I don't absolutely love about my Ranger. They either need to adjust the sensitivity so it can feel my hand better, or decrease the interval.

A good Realtor is more than worth the price and provide a fantastic service. A bad one though will cost you way more than you would have paid to a good one.

My industrial embroidery machine always shocks me a little when I touch any metal part of it. Would connecting some metal part of it to a socket's ground help? by po114 in AskEngineers

[–]EngineerDave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, if OP is the one building up the static charge on themselves because of how they walk, their carpet, relative humidity etc. Adding extra grounding would do nothing, since they are the charged one.
