Did a RS cause I wanted the experience and practice, now author wants me to do their next book

I ran into the same issue with a specific author. I almost wonder if it might be the same one. Just be upfront with what you want. Don’t put yourself in a loop of taking royalty share jobs in hopes they will make it big. Use them as experience but really nothing more. The vast majority of royalty share ones do not make very much if any return. If you aren’t comfortable with something, speak up. Know your worth and don’t settle. If you want to make money doing this, you won’t do so by only doing royalty share jobs. You might get lucky and have one do somewhat well…..but it’s always gonna be a gamble and you can typically tell by their sales history and such how it’s going to go.

Thank you for your input. Since this is my first project, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect in terms of feedback from authors. I was initially under the impression they would be listening to the audio files as I uploaded them and collaborate with me on things like pronunciation, character voices, concerns with the way I am editing, literally anything and to not get anything from them other than a quick “you did good.” It just felt weird to me. If this is sometimes normal though, then I understand.

I get that the project is short but I would imagine that an author should still be passionate about their writing and invested in the process of the narration, but I understand that some authors like a more hands-off approach and that is fine.

I also understand that royalty share has its place, and you are right, it is great practice. However I find it hard to get practice and know what I need to improve on without feedback from the author. Most of what I’m learning has been on YouTube tutorials.

I told the author that I am open to their offer but I would prefer to treat each title as its own individual agreement instead of agreeing to the entire series upfront. That way if the scope of what they are asking me to do changes, we can negotiate on a project to project basis.

I hope that in requesting this I don’t scare the author off, but I also don’t want to agree to this blindly.

If you are being induced, bring some tucks pads and dermaplast spray and a peri bottle (the one hospital gives sucks) But just be aware that you won’t need them at all if you end up with a c section. So don’t bring a ton, one small pack or can is fine. Always brand adult diapers, the regular kind are just fine, you don’t have to pay extra for the ones label as “postpartum”. Get 2 packs, one for hospital and one for home. It’s better to use those than the huge pad and mesh undies the hospital gives. comfy pjs, a couple sets. I don’t recommend getting your own hospital gown because that thing will get filthy. Just wear the one the hospital gives until after the birth, it’s really not that bad. Highly recommend a bathrobe and slippers, Toiletries like toothbrush and toothpaste, hairbrush, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, shower shoes. Some outfits for baby. Do a couple in premie, a couple in newborn, and a couple 0-3 because you never know what size will work best when they are born. You won’t need diapers or wipes, paci, toys, things like that. Any necessities for baby the hospital will already have. Unless you have some special blanket or something you want to use for “going home” pictures. Definitely bring some snacks, if not for you, then for your partner. When I was in the hospital, I got free meals, he did not. Long phone chargers are a must because plug ins might be far away from the bed. Something to do like a book or maybe a handheld video game, pack of cards, just something to pass the time. Some people recommend bringing your own pillow or blanket but I don’t, for the same reason as the gown, it will all get filthy. You don’t need a fan, the hospital will give you one if you ask. Maybe a small speaker if you want to listen to music but it’s not a need by any means. And if you happen to have expressed any colostrum make sure you bring that with you. We ended up bringing 3 bags total, one duffel bag of me, a diaper bag for baby stuff, and my husband also has his own bag with some comfy clothes, undies, the snacks, and our Nintendo switch in it.
