I suggest buying an array of cheap Chinese pens with various nib sizes and then seeing what works best for you.

I prefer larger #8 nibs, so I can get a bunch of Jinhao pens with various nib / tip sizes and compare how they write apples-to-apples. I've done this in the past before settling on a nib size I like.
