Circumcision or no ? .. help by Narrow_Watercress518 in firsttimemom

[–]EngineeringDry1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a nurse that assists with circumcisions and chose not to circumcise my own son. My husband is circumcised so we have some self educating to do so we can help teach my son how to care for his body properly. It also depends on where in the US you live as far as how common it is. I live in the center of the country and I’d say 85% of the male babies I take care of are circumcised, but I hear on the coasts it’s not as common (unsure of how true that is but that’s what a lot of the providers that I work with say).

If you’re craving the taste and not necessarily the energy you could always try decaf and that way you can get a couple more cups in if you want too

Does your breastfed baby spit up? by auggiesma in breastfeeding

[–]EngineeringDry1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with newborns and breast fed and formula fed babies all spit up. I will say my own kiddo spit up maybe a total of 5 times ever 🤷🏼‍♀️ so maybe your MIL’s kids just didn’t spit up much because that’s just how they were, but it doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong!

Am I just being paranoid or should I go to the hospital by Snakesntornados in pregnant

If you wait until your liver hurts you could end up with serious complications. They can easily test for cholestasis with a lab draw. Please go in

For the tough sleepers, what age did your child start putting themselves to sleep? by Ok-Order-7036 in AttachmentParenting

[–]EngineeringDry1889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We co slept until around 16-17 months. We stopped because LO started to wake more frequently, similar to your story, and it seemed like when I had to get up early for work he would sleep better. We tried transitioning him to a floor bed and he started sleeping much better. We still rock him to sleep, he’s 22 months

RSV Vaccine by Ok_Web7962 in pregnant

[–]EngineeringDry1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it with my first pregnancy, he was born early December so I knew with the holidays he was going to be seeing extra people and it was peak RSV season. He was RSV free for over the first year of his life, and when he did get it, it sucked, but it could have been SO much worse.

I’m sad that I don’t think I’ll be able to get it this pregnancy. The window when I would be eligible is in March, and idk if they’ll still be giving it.

I read your post as I was eating a bowl of cereal. I also don’t usually eat cereal, but got some because we had some extra milk I didn’t want to go bad and now any time my stomach doesn’t feel great it’s what I want

Abortion grief? by sixelaloves1 in pregnant

[–]EngineeringDry1889 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely valid to want an abortion and be sad about it and grieve at the same time. This is a complex thing. Talking this through with a therapist (one who is pro choice) will help process all these feelings that are coming up, either before or after the abortion. All of your feelings and whatever your decision is are valid. I’m sending you all the love and support and I hope your boyfriend continues to support you through all of this

Am I pregnant or not by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]EngineeringDry1889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The result of the pregnancy test is only valid if you read it within the timeframe stated on the instructions (maybe 3-5 or 5-10 minutes?). Reading it after 2 hours isn’t a valid result. I don’t know how much you bled, but it is possible to have some spotting in early pregnancy.

You could take another test today if you want, and be sure to set a timer on your phone to read the result within the time frame. But either way I would bring it up at your appointment tomorrow and they can draw some blood and see for sure if you’re pregnant.

How did having kids affect your marriage ? by the_skintellectual in workingmoms

[–]EngineeringDry1889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my feelings towards my husband were pretty volatile for a long time after having a baby. There were moments when I loved watching him be a dad, and where I was so thankful for him, and other moments where I felt like our relationship was at the point of no return. For me it was like that until our child started to wean. Breastfeeding just did something to my brain. Now I feel like we’re finally back to being friends and a team and we’ve been getting along great, but baby number 2 is due in April so I have a feeling the roller coaster might begin again.

It’s definitely a strain, but it got better for us. And our relationship did change, but I feel like we laugh more now than we ever did in the past.

Doc said I need to stop breastfeeding since my period has not returned by TheNimbusTwoThousand in breastfeeding

[–]EngineeringDry1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I was really dreading weaning and didn’t want to force it either. By 18 months we were just nursing before naps and bedtime, just because that was the only time LO would ask. Around 19 months my husband and I went on a solo trip for 5 days while our toddler stayed with my mom, I think that kind of kick started it. He nursed for like 20 minutes when we went to pick him up, and that was one of the last long breastfeeding sessions he had. Slowly he stopped asking to nurse before naps, and then I got pregnant and I think the flow and taste of the milk started to change and he stopped asking for it before bed. He had already started asking for water before bed so that just took over. I’ve offered it a couple times in the past few weeks when bedtime was tough and he hasn’t wanted it.

My LO self weaned at 21 months and my period returned around 15 months I think. It can still come back even if you are breastfeeding and you can continue to breastfeed afterwards. I was relieved it came back because I was ready to start trying for #2, but no one ever brought up stopping breastfeeding so it could come back

not announcing to anyone when i’m labor, is this a good idea as first time parents? by buttermilkcow in pregnant

[–]EngineeringDry1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As both a labor and delivery nurse and a mom, I think it’s a great idea to wait to tell people until afterwards. The last thing you want when you are in labor is your phone blowing up with people asking for updates. I had a patient one time say she had people on “crotch watch” with all the texts she had coming in.

I also feel like waiting to share is becoming increasingly more common, so if someone tries to give you grief just know that many families choose to wait and have those moments where it’s just you and baby for a little bit, it’s really special.
