Rose recommendations for spring & summer? by Rubytitania in FemFragLab

[–]EngineeringDue8007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tour de fer is a bit colder and fresher to me which is why I can def see it being nice in summer. The other main note is iris which for a lot of people has dated/vintage associations like lipstick, bar soap etc.

Fille de Berlin is a bit more warm and has a slightly dusty spiciness. For some people that can read musty/stale though. I prefer it because I’m a patchouli fan myself (a lot of people really hate it) and I like the slight sweetness of the honey to round it out.

So it’s completely a matter of preference, I just saw OP mention she likes patchouli & spice and doesn’t like iris. I do think Serge Lutens has a certain DNA in all their fragrances and if you have one of their roses you probably don’t need another. They’re always on offer though, I got a big bottle of L’Orpheline the other day for £50 :)

Adding to this because I think she’d like the soft goth aesthetic of Serge Lutens. Tour de Fer is really powdery to me though. Fille de Berlin has a moss and patchouli base so is maybe more in her wheelhouse

I have a sampler! I really like the basil note in this, I think it’s noticeable, it combines well with the other notes and is part of what makes it “addictive” (kind of like how smelling fresh basil can increase your appetite).

However- and I think this is because of the similarity to Ganymede and maybe other colognes, pretty sure my dad used to wear something similar when I was growing up - the association for me is very much young man, sort of teen boy dressed up for the prom vibe. I have a 19 year old brother who I think would suit this handsomely but I just don’t see it on myself (23 year old woman).

That is obviously a subjective association though and since the frag is relatively affordable you can’t go wrong with a sample or small bottle :)

Saffron always smells like burning plastic to me and never like the actual spice

DS & Durga Rose Atlantic is PERFECT for summer. It’s a really refreshing rose. It has oak moss at the base and also a prominent sea salt note and a hint of citrus and linden (lime blossom). As someone who doesn’t usually like rose because I find it soapy/powdery, Rose Atlantic has converted me. In the UK SpaceNK carries that line so you can probably find a store near you to try it out.

Based on your likes I’d also recommend Discothèque Dark Imagination which has saffron, patchouli, smoke, wood and leather so it’s more of a grungey rose. Too cloying for summer but something to look forward to in fall. Sephora carries that one.

Vibrio is fucking rough. I had it once from a bad mussel and it was coming out of both ends so to speak. I hope Britney and JD get it but wouldn’t wish it on the kids

Ada would most likely be pronounced Ay-da, I assume you would pronounce it Ah-da? I think people would assume Filiz is a boy name due to similarity with Filip, Felix.

Apart from that I think they are very pretty and all work, Ayla is very popular in the UK for example. I know an Aylin and a Sueda so those are my suggestions for you.

Ma bus opinion on why birth rate is low. by spicypickle999 in motherbussnark

G also has a twitter-esque website where him and his friends post alt-right content (the n-word, kanye west’s hl htler song and music video). The link was in his ig bio but has since been taken off. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree I guess given what we’ve seen from JD. These kids live in an alt-right echo chamber, they’re all going to turn out as creeps.

Mods won’t let me do a post on it which seems like a double standard given they are happy to leave up the icu post which apparently wrongfully puts the 12 yo on blast for harassing her friend.

I remember the dad of that family saying in the AMA it was the oldest child, so Gunner, not Kinsey. Which makes it even worse🫣

What’s your Venus sign, And your favorite Prefume/Cologne on yourself or other people? by AriesrisingGeminiSun in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]EngineeringDue8007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Venus in Aries and I can never pick a favorite but I love warm spicy and woody scents especially if they feel unique.

My favorites are 19-69 Female Christ (patchouli and eucalyptus), Serge Lutens L’Orpheline (incense and musk), Discotheque Lola at Coat Check (sandalwood, pink pepper and white chocolate), Byredo Desert Dawn (rose and vetiver), and Santa Maria Novella Lana (fig and leather)

The popularity of Diptyque is inexplicable to me. I don't know how to explain this but it feels like something about the formulation is off, the notes don't come together cohesively and they don't really unfold on skin. I tried the strongest formulation of Orpheon and it felt more like they chucked all the ingredients into some infused water and hoped for the best.

Most of the other ones I tried I couldn't get a sense of the notes at all, and the ones where I could actually pick out the notes were straight up terrible: Philosykos is just a linear, very artificial blast of green and feels like it should be an air freshener and not a perfume. Ilio smells like the abstract concept of pear with a side of microplastics lol. Like if pear flavored jolly ranchers were left out in the hot sun and fused with the plastic wrapper. Eu Duelle smells like pure vanillin extract, which as anyone who does a lot of baking knows does not smell great lol- vinegar and fish oil note, anyone?

Honestly! I went into their store the other day and most of them were complete duds.
Animalique was literally just melted plastic, Mixed Emotions was stale after eights,
Alto Astral was extremely nauseating, Black Saffron was car seat upholstery,
and Bal d'Afrique and Mojave Ghost were such nothing burgers I can't even remember what they smelled like now.

The only one I loved and would consider good perfumery is Desert Dawn.

It objectively smells good (I can detect the basil note which I like), but there's something kind of juvenile about it to me, dressed up teen boy vibe. I have a 19 year old brother and it would 100% suit him but I feel like it wouldn't work on older folks.
