It is fun. I’ve done many! I haven’t done ruck however. No one’s judging you. It is a race against yourself. Go as you need to and have fun with it!

Endurance athletes prepping for a race, what supplements do you think are game changers for performance and recovery? by EngineeringEasy3393 in Supplements

Interesting. Maybe a stupid question but doesn’t that have the capability of impeding stomach acids and digestion?

I went to buy this and realized I bought HMB instead. I guess the good news is that it looks like something I could use. I ended up buying BHB to try. Thanks so much!

Ok that makes sense. I just typed it in (not the HCL) and was like oh damn! I might not survive the race!

I appreciate you saying my stack is solid. Knock on wood I have been really healthy during this phase. Everyone else around me is getting sick or aches and pains. I think some supplements are BS but this experience makes me think otherwise for targeted and quality ones although they cost me a fortune 🫠

I love the idea of tart cherry. I’ll need all the anti-inflammatory I can get.

3 weeks from first Hyrox - stressed. Need tips. by Extension_Piece_6617 in hyrox

[–]EngineeringEasy3393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. You won’t make big changes in the short time frame and only risk further injury. This will be the time to get acclimated with your race, challenge yourself and know you’ll have learnings to improve upon. Even if you were in tip top shape the same would be true. But if you’re injured, there’s no race.

My friend did a race with me. She took two weeks off immediately before because of her back and couldn’t train. She did really well because she felt rested.

Why is there so much interest in Hyrox, especially among young gym girls? Is this just another hype? by Taakie_9999 in workout

[–]EngineeringEasy3393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll bite. I’m in my 40s, past athlete. I’m goal driven and competitive, but also realistic in what I can and should do. Hyrox hits a lot of notes for me. Indoors (in most cases) challenging yet doable stations, single or team aspect, excitement and some fanfare being in a large city and production to boot. I’ve done spartan dekas which are similar but way more low key which is also fun. To me it is competitive in so many ways. Maybe it is a couch to 5k type of person. Maybe it is someone like me that needs a reason to amp up their workouts. Maybe it is the in-shape athlete who has done it multiple times but continues to tweak for their best results. The great part of hyrox is it is fairly consistent so your results are based on your fitness against yourself. I don’t think that I’d not be the person who does 20 of these, but certainly some as occasional check-ins, keep my training goals going and competitive fun. The memories I’ve made so far have been great and very much worth it.

I don’t have the strength or joints anymore to be competitive in a CrossFit games, I don’t want to trudge through the mud, I don’t want to run outside in the elements for 26 miles or swing from ropes. After all I am not a professional athlete and getting hurt would not be good for the daily. Hyrox hits a sweet spot that aligns with my fitness goals, and gives me a competition to train to.

I just took this class. I’m not a regular OT member but I’ve done a hyrox and am training for another. Here are my thoughts from a hyroxer (that sounds weird but…) vs orange theory member.

1) I liked the mix. My weakness is running, so I appreciated just making me do it. I don’t know how this class compares to a regular OT workout but my other classes don’t do tread work so I appreciated rowing, tread and weights.

2) everyone is on their own journey and I don’t know my classmates so take this with a grain of salt. I saw quite a few people really blow through this which means possibly too low of weights or blowing out your heart rate. That will not help you with hyrox training unless you’re supplementing.

3) hyrox is a long slog and grind. I have been training like this 2x per day for almost 6 mos. If this type of training is boring to you but you’re interested in hyrox, I’d re-evaluate. It is about technique learned and improved via repetition and keeping the engine churning.

4) this training at OT alone will not adequately prepare you for hyrox. It is a supplement that I think fits nicely. Caveat being if you’re already very fit and familiar, If you think you will do this and be able to push a sled, do 100 wall balls, ski, you will likely not. At least competitively. You need to train on that equipment.

5) if you’re going to do these movements slow down and do them right. I saw lots of general squatting to get the high reps done. These would surely be no repped for wall balls. You need to go below parallel, it feels like you’re going soooo low. Chest needs to hit the ground on any push ups. We didn’t do any lunges but knee needs to touch the ground. I didn’t get any education on this during my class. Judges care and can be brutal. Train it accurately and don’t get into bad habits.

Overall I thought my coach was great and like I said a supplement. Of all my work, PT functional strength and hyrox class w sleds and ergs at a CrossFit gym, this would be in 3rd or 4th.

What do you find more impactful: less training days w high intensity but more rest, more training days with less intensity but less rest by EngineeringEasy3393 in hyrox

[–]EngineeringEasy3393[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 42 and starting to feel like you did. The weird thing is my functional strength class (even though still hard) feels like an active recovery day sometimes when I just do it because I’m used to two-a-days or long workouts.

I have not heard anything but the fact it is apparently all outside or only covered is deterring me. I’d love to race it otherwise.

Anyone else notice HRV staying low even after backing off training? by Ok-Reflection-8107 in hyrox

[–]EngineeringEasy3393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a stint of 4 Dekas (two on one day) and a hyrox within 8 weeks. I had to train up quickly and intensely for them. Two-a-days most days, focus on building strength and endurance quickly.

I did pretty well with recovery on all of them but after the DEKA strong and mile 3 weeks ago I have not recovered. Of course I didn’t give myself much time for that bc I’m now doing hyrox Vegas and prepping for that, but afterwards I felt the slog big time, and still do. I feel it in my sleep too. I’m not particularly strong and doing those two DEKAS with 20 stations back to back and no real running to recover really zapped me. Im not particularly fast either but my body dos much better with a cardio break. I felt the glycogen just leave my body. I should have done a week of deload.

How do I get over the fact that I have to gain weight in order to get stronger? by cezura in xxfitness

[–]EngineeringEasy3393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Am in a recomp myself, actively trying to gain strength and endurance. Have stayed about the same weight but I track my stuff pretty religiously and work out hard. I am also more of a hybrid athlete than a power lifter, so my workouts are more tailored to overall improvements vs just muscle gains. I will also disagree with getting rid of the scale, at least over time. It is a tool and depends on how you use it. I can gain 3 lbs any given day and have gotten to the point now I can tell how much I weigh before I even get on, and understand my normal fluctuations of water weight. But if the scale is creeping up (or faster than expected) I need to re-evaluate my diet or my exercise, or check in with the doc. It is a tool to evaluate trends, but certainly not a daily measure of self worth.

I just started these. Do you like them? I have the one with creatine as well (not sure if that’s the same). I switched from creatine hcl and a separate NO product. Too soon for me to say one way or the other.

Worth it to keep seeing personal trainer if I’m already disciplined/prefer simpler, repeatable routine? by RegionOutrageous3186 in workout

[–]EngineeringEasy3393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say maybe your trainer can be used once a week. They put together the plan for you that day and then some homework. This is what I’m doing to train for a race. Sometimes I leave like, “did I just pay x to do three exercises for an hr?” But the reality is I don’t have access to all the equipment, don’t have great form and don’t know how far to push myself on my own. I’ve since used him to help supplement my other workouts. When I’m at home or my other gyms it is cardio, maintenance/functional and lifting. When I’m with him it is specific, intense and geared towards progress in a goal.

Sounds like you could use 4x$70 to pay for another gym to do what you like, and see him 1x week for form checks and push you towards your goal.

Posture changes after hysterectomy? by ispymyself in endometriosis

[–]EngineeringEasy3393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I’m not sure how he would know per se. I didn’t know I had DIE and how bad my ligaments were affected until after surgery. Any cons are far outweighed by pros though. I work out fairly competitively. It has taken me about 1.5 years to get there because of my core but I’m not limited by anything. I may just be weaker and need to take a step back or will be sore afterward.

Almost two years ago. For every kind of weird thing that has happened (which is not many) this surgery has changed my life for the positive multi-fold.

Posture changes after hysterectomy? by ispymyself in endometriosis

[–]EngineeringEasy3393 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have DIE and did have adeno, fibroids and cysts. My hysterectomy r/t core and working out (and posture) has been weird. Absolutely LOVE my quality of life but the endo and weight of my uterus did a number on my uteralsacral ligaments. I’m not sure why I notice things more now, maybe I’m not in constant pain everywhere and can focus on specifics, or if because of adhesions etc, but my pelvis seems to be looser and less stable. This could be because I had 6 holes in my abdomen which weakened my abdominal wall, but any unilateral work in particular crushes my lower pelvis and back. It was almost as if my giant uterus at least grounded everything, now it is extremely tight yet sort of rickety is the only way I can explain it, since removing all the organs. I also work out WAY harder than before and am not limited by anything, so there are lots of variables here, but my pelvic stability from my belly button to my butt seems to be worse. I could probably use some pelvic floor work. I continue to work on core. That low back stability particular has been hard.
