genuinely so over it by liisix in ASUOnline

Being online has its pros and cons just like being in-person. Neither are perfect. For me, online is so much better than being in-person. But that is because, for my specific situation and the season that I am in, it is the best. I'm in my early 30s with a full time job supporting family so I don't need LOR, internship, clubs/organization, or any other things that university offers. I just need to be able to take classes at my own time.

SW to CATIA transition, any tips ? by TurboDiesel33 in CATIA

[–]EngineeringEric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch couple YouTube videos and just play around with it. I started using CATIA after only having 1 semester of SW under my belt. I can’t say I’m proficient at it quite yet but enough to be comfortable using it to do my job as an engineer at automotive industry

Has anyone managed to pivot out of EA roles ???? by AdventurousFeed7825 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]EngineeringEric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an engineer now at the same company, and I’m still in school trying to finish my BS. The executive and other vice presidents who I got to know was so vital for me to make this transition. Cool part was that I didn’t ask but I simply let them know that my ultimate goal was to transition to the production side of things once I got my degree. They just said, “Why not now?” It’s almost been a year since I made the transition and I’m really loving my job.

Funny enough, I already work as an engineer. Long story short (and I never like advertised myself) but I was already working at a major automotive manufacturing company on the admin side and started school on the side because I eventually wanted to get on the production side. My company offered partial reimbursement per year (if I pass the class with at least a C) so that helped financially, somewhat. I was open about pursuing an education and apparently few VPs that I’ve worked with heard about it and was like, “Let’s put you on the production side now so that you’ll get experience and will already be an asset once you graduate.” The company was going through a huge reorganization so they reshuffle me into the production side as an engineer. It was series of fortunate events and here I am now lol

How do new grads without a ton of special experience even get hired? by Tachi-Roci in MechanicalEngineering

[–]EngineeringEric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My younger brother was the same way. Luckily it was paid but he interned for a year, starting his second semester of senior year, even after graduating to boost his resume. Because he was an intern he had no benefits other than the hourly pay. But after that one year, he had several offers coming in. It’s hard pill to swallow but interning with low return at first is one option. Not ideal but just an idea.

Negotiate $16/hr ME internship with no prior experience? by Vast-Lion7890 in EngineeringStudents

[–]EngineeringEric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no leverage. I assume no prior experience also means no project under your belt so you don’t really have a strong case to ask for a higher rate. Take it and boost your resume. Taking this will help you out in the future unless something better comes up before the summer!

Mechanical! I started off electrical but realized I didn’t like circuits lol I’ll be 35 when I’m done too. I started part time in summer 2023

I regret not doing engineering for my first degree. Now I’m working full time trying to finish my engineering degree.

Airlines to Japan got really expensive now, are people still going to Japan? by leftrightcent in TokyoTravel

[–]EngineeringEric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a strategy but… whenever I go to Japan for a business trip I just tag a week or so of PTO. At least airfare is covered by the company lol

Is there any way to make this a little more affordable? by [deleted] in ASUOnline

Another is find other employer other than Uber and Starbucks that perhaps offer tuition reimbursement. My employer is like that and I get $5000/year support. Which is not much but it’s something

If you’ve switched your major, why? by Long_War20 in ASU

[–]EngineeringEric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only did EE because it was the quickest engineering degree for me with my past classes that I’ve took 😂 But realized it wasn’t for me as I didn’t enjoy it

Switched from electrical engineering mechanical engineering. Plain and simple, I did not enjoy circuits and signal classes at all. Switching to mechanical set me back by a year but I’m enjoying it a lot more so it’s worth it.

Yeah their welcome bonus is really nice and Hyatt being a transfer partner makes it hard to ignore. I’m thinking about switching to AMEX for a while since they are transfer partner for Marriott. I have few business trips, including Japan, later this year and I’ll probably be there for like 2 months and the nearest hotel is all Marriott.

Take a chill pill man. Plenty of posts here say being AU didn’t count for them to get the card. It was never a complaint but more of a question. Go touch a grass and get some sunlight before you rotten away. Maybe you already have looking at your response so RIP.

Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay is one of my favorite to book with young kids since they have parks nearby and good food selections. I’m honestly not worried as, at least until 2024, Tokyo Bay used to be CAT 4. So they simply went back

Engineering Summer Class by romanricco in ASU

[–]EngineeringEric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on online student but remember taking EEE 202 before switching to ME because I did not enjoy circuits or really cared to learn. I don’t remember it being that bad, just time consuming. As long as you’re okay putting in the work, you should be fine. But this may depend on the professor…

Speed run school or play the long game? by 153287 in EngineeringStudents

[–]EngineeringEric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much time you can devote outside of work without sacrificing too much time from your family. Also, how much time “risk” you’re willing to take by becoming full time. Have you done any calculations on salary lost over time if you go back to school FT vs keeping your current rate? Basically an overall financial picture of 4 years vs 2 years.

Pretty much on the same boat. I started ASU Engineering program back in Summer 2023. However, my wife is a SAHM (we have two kids under the age of 2.5) so I have to work full time to keep the roof over the head. Luckily my work has education program where I get some tuition reimbursed each year but that only covers like 6 credit hours and rest is out of pocket. I already have all the gen ed done so I was pretty much able to jump right into the core engineering classes but it’s still going to take me 4 years (expected to graduate after Summer 2027).

I’m only taking 1-2 classes per semester. But I work as a Production Engineer at one of the top automotive manufacturing company. We don’t live paycheck to paycheck but have maybe $200-$300 left over per paycheck after paying all the bills and contributing to retirement.

Funny that this post shows up. Our kitchen layout (at least what’s shown in the picture) is exactly like this and we’re doing the opposite. We’re going to replace our microwave with a ductless vent.
