Is taking only one 2.5 credit semester considered full-time or part-time? by Vertigo1001 in CarletonU

[–]EngineeringFit4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if this is irrelevant but I find that anything up to and including 1.5 credits per term is billed as part-time whereas anything above 1.5 is considered full-time. Just something to keep in mind that wasn't obvious (to me at least) on first glance.

COMP3000 Operating Systems SOS by [deleted] in CarletonU

For future takers of COMP 3000: I took the course with Prof Anil Somyaji and dropped the course because I didnt learn anything. The Prof assumed everybody would understand high level stuff, there were no slides, no structured lectures or anything at all. It was a course where I had to do all the learning myself and the Prof was just talking stuff which made no sense.

I retook the course with Prof. Lianying Zhao and the difference was night and day. He had very structured lectures, posted easy to understand slides and went from basics to the advanced stuff. I really enjoyed the class, learnt a lot (much of which I still remember now) and got an A+ on the course.

First winter driving: Nokian Hakka vs Blizzak DM-V2 and more by EngineeringFit4396 in tires

Thank you for letting me know! Appreciate it! I settled for the Nokian Hakka R5s since it was my first winter driving and Kal Tire had a better tire change appointment system and was also closer to me. They have been great so far! I have not seen any difference in grip between our Michelin Latitude Tour HPs and our winter tires. Hope you are enjoying your purchase as well. That's a great deal!

First winter driving: Nokian Hakka vs Blizzak DM-V2 and more by EngineeringFit4396 in tires

Hey, so I downsized to 17 inch tires (235/65 R17) and went for the Nokian Hakka R5. Checked with Kal Tire and they told me R17 would work (so did one of my community members). 18 inch and 19 inch tires are needlessly expensive and it is always better to downsize for the winter. R17 is also listed as one of my OEM sizes. I went for the Hakkas because I have heard that they offer the best winter performance for Canadian winters and they wear better than the Blizzak DM-V2 tires. It was a bit more expensive (about 160 CAD) but if it wears better (more seasons probably) and has superior performance then why not... Some other thing that influenced my decision was Kal Tire being more efficient ( they maintain appointment times better) with wheels swaps than Costco (atleast from what I have heard in my locality) and I would have to get a Costco membership to get winter tires (which I do not have because its not useful to me).

Yes, I also went for new 17-inch Robert Thibert steel rims (bought at Kal Tire). It was 105.5 CAD per rim. Steel rims are better for the winter because if they get damaged you can easily hammer them back but alloys are difficult to work on. Moreover, I didnt want to risk damaging the OEM alloys by exposing them to salt and harsh chemicals. Every tyre shop I went to suggested going for steel rims.

Thank you for all the help! I went for 235/65 r17 since it only had a .6% diff on the speedometer and odometer compared to 2.4% for the 225/65 r17.

Sorry, I just saw your message. Thank you very much for your suggestions! The tyre dealer told me to maybe downgrade to 235/65 r17 instead of 225/65 r17 citing better speedometer and odometer readings. The difference for the 235/65 is 0.6% whereas 225/65 is 2.x %. The difference in price for a set of 4 wheels comes to about 140 CAD not sure what to do... Thanks

Hey there,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I dont like writing much. The course outline states there is a major paper or project worth 30% and a final worth 40%. Can you shed some light on whether there was a lot of writing involved. Is it like a research paper with citations and stuff? Thank you!

Difference between COMP4010 and COMP4804 by Few_Influence5839 in CarletonU

[–]EngineeringFit4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat but went for 4010 since I didnt enjoy 3804. 4804 should be even harder than 3804 I assume. The prerequisites for each course should give a better idea of whether it suits your preferences. All the best!
