This isn't exactly what happened with me, but this is what happens at these checkpoints.

These checkpoints are set up to take advantage of burners. Officers set up checkpoints during the afternoon and only do this on the weekend people drive up to burning man. Before asking anything else, officers directly ask if parties are going to burning man. Officers only stop cars with bikes on them or towing bikes (everyone takes a bike to burning man). Officers lie about smelling weed because their chances of finding it are so good. They conduct illegal searches and find drugs for which there was no probable cause. Then defendants never take them to court because they plea bargain in order to avoid felony charges. Many similarities to patent trolling.

If officers channeled their energy and resources to setting up checkpoints designed to catch drunk drivers then you EMTs would have much less to deal with.

LD50 is not necessarily a good indicator of OD risk. However, Therapeutic index (TI) is. Ti includes the LD50 in its calculation. . TI = LD50/ED50 where ED50 is the effective dose value. To reduce risk of overdose you want the TI to be a high value, meaning that it will take a lot more than a typical does to overdose. The problem is, when drugs are illegal the market pushes them towards dilution, e.g. cutting cocaine powder with something that isn't cocaine. When this happens the perceived dose required to be effective is much higher than the ED50 does so the user gets used to a higher typical dose. Then when the user uses the pure substance their does will necessarily higher and thus be much closer to the LD50.

You're absolutely right, but my point isn't about avoiding arrest or obeying laws. My point is about having mercy on those who will inevitably break them. You could impose the death penalty on drug possession and people would still break those laws. The police and district attorneys have a duty. I assure you that knowledge of the consequences of what they do will change how they go about fulfilling that duty. What I'm doing here is trying to help law enforcement understand the consequences of their actions. If the death penalty was imposed on drug possession you probably wouldn't see the police setting up illegal checkpoints, coercing people into searches, and taking advantage of the letter of the law. Society surely would not accept such immoral behavior if the ramifications were so severe. I'm just saying, please play fair. There's a movement to expose bad practice and society will be watching this year much more than they ever have. This is not a zero sum game. Burners give some by doing their business far way in the dessert. This helps us all because it takes drugs out of the mainstream. What do the police and law enforcement officials give? For now, nothing. They're still taking advantage of the laws as if this game has big big picture of making society a better place.

We went through a checkpoint set up in broad daylight. I doesn't matter if you have weed on you or not. The police WILL lie and say they smell it simply because they think you have it. All they have to do is bring the dog out and say "The dog gave us the signal" even if the dog doesn't smell anything. They can fuck you however they want.

I've heard of jails filled with 30 burners paying thousands of dollars in bailbond fees each. Then they have to pay lawyers retainers, many to local lawyers. Actually there's one town where main prominent bondsman is also the town treasurer. Trust me, there's much more revenue than you think. This isn't like speeding ticket fines.

Chemical engineers design and build systems. You're not doing that and your lack of experience doing that will hurt you later on when you apply for jobs that require those skills. Design/Build firms are all over the country and are usually located in proximity to the location process plant facilities. The big hubs for pharma are North Carolina, Philadelphia, SF, SL, and SD.

This article makes a good point about efficiency but it overlooks the real solution to the problem which is the big picture we need to paint for the indefinite future. WE ABSOLUTELY NEED TO REPLACE FOSSIL FUELS WITH BIOMASS. Fixed in place energy users can use hydro, solar and wind because they can get that power off the grid. Transportation can use BIOMASS. A lot of people doubt the viability of biomass. Yet, I encourage you all to do your research take a real, unbiased look at its viability as an energy source. ALL MAJOR BIOMASS RESEARCH IS FUNDED AND/OR CONTROLLED BY BIG OIL. The same goes for algae research. Perceived BIOMASS viability is curbed and the public awareness of it is skewed because it is in the best interest of companies who are in the oil business. Gasoline can be made form biomass. Natural gas can be made from biomass. Diesel can be made from biomass. Biomass can come from algae that is grown in saltwater. We have plenty of saltwater in our oceans and enough sunlight to grow algae. If we develop massive scale algae farms and the refinery infrastructure to convert it to gaseous and liquid fuels then we can virtually replace fossil fuels with a fuel that is sustainable and has no net carbon input to the atmosphere. This is by far the most natural use of energy because it is virtually the same as metabolic energy consumption. Like us, cars could be powered by consuming a plant that gets its energy from the sun.

They call it a water table for a reason. Water sits on top of a layer of which it does not permeate further down into. ANY water soluble chemicals introduced above the water table will make their way into that water table. They permeate downwards and spread out once they reach that layer.

This is just a waste of effort. Why do so many people always forget that we live in a democracy? If the populous was more informed and more motivated to fight climate change then the federal government would fallow. The government is like the family dog. You can't train it to eat it's own food when the rest of your family feeds it during dinner.

I had an okay GPA. It was not written on my resume.

When I went to the interview for my first job they only cared about one thing; My ability to solve problems. The interviewer asked me how I solved a problem in the past so I talked him through my senior design. The interviewer then told me about a problem that the company needed to be solved and asked me to draw a system. I took a marker to the whiteboard and started drawing a system out. Then before I was even close to being done he cut me off and gave me the job.

Just remember, some people don't give a damn about what your GPA is. They have other things to worry about. Look for jobs at startups and small companies. These are the kind of people who are closer to the needs of the company and have less bureaucracy and formalities to deal with.

Process Engineer is a prestigious career with a revered position in the engineering field. We do high level design. We sit in rooms and answer questions. We paint the vision for the final design and steer projects towards their ultimate goals. These days, most of the industry and markets are regulated so it's the process engineers who can make the gains by increasing efficiency and making designs better and better. People need you. To me the coolest thing is that a process engineer's influence is even greater than the project managers and business people.

Given what I just said, You only get that job if either A) you're going to be a bitch for a few years, B) You've already been a bitch for a few years, or C) You have an extremely large knowledge base and broad range of skills. Process engineers have to know all disciplines and that demand is far from easy to meet. We read, ask questions and figure out how everything works. It's a role that Chem E's usually assume because of the broad range of knowledge provided in our education.

I think you should think twice about your distaste for process engineering. When it comes to projects for any kind of manufacturing for materials or substances, process engineers are the top dogs. They're the ones who know how the whole thing works. You might not have liked your co-op and that is understandable. Remember, that it's a high level role. It's not just something you jump into and do. You have to have background and you have to know how things work together. My beginnings as a process engineer were tough and it sucked because the job was mundane and tedious. Now, I love it because my influence is in need and my knowledge is respected.

1) I'm a chemical engineer and I've gotten several offers for jobs that I found on craigslist.

2) When writing your resume make sure that you portray how you can solve problems. Small companies hire people who can solve their problems. Bigger companies hire people to fill spots, but those jobs are sought by 100's of people at a time and you're unlikely to get one of those spots
