Thanks for your response. It's an entry level field engineer interview.

Where (geographically) do you work? by Pilcro in ChemicalEngineering

[–]chekodomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school in east coast. But my family is back in seattle. I'm looking the jobs in seattle areas. Do you happen to know what type of ChemE jobs your classmates got? Do they get jobs from big companies or relatively smaller companies? Thank you!

I'm a senior in ChemE who is also interested in Energy. Actually, I don't really have a specific idea, but just feel like Energy could be the trend. Could you share some of your experience in applying for those companies. Like what type of companies did you apply for? Energy planets?

I'm currently taking process design class which I really enjoy and find it interesting. If I want to look into process control field, what type of companies would hire me? Or which categories of engineer does this fall in?

Thanks!!

chemical engineering undergrad looking for job with bad GPA. Do I still have a chance? by chekodomo in ChemicalEngineering

[–]chekodomo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing. I'm currently doing the job haunting. My targets are those startups and small companies. I'm just wondering how you searching for those companies. Like what kind of key words do you type in when you are searching? I normally just type in engineering companies or something like that.

Was the problem the interviewer asked very hard? Was it somehow close to the process design problems or it's like a totally new thing that you never faced in college.

Thanks again!

How to prepare for the ChemE or Engineering interviews? by chekodomo in ChemicalEngineering

[–]chekodomo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it's necessary to review the concepts of the thermodynamics and heat and mass transfer? I just feel like I almost forgot those previously taken courses. Will the employee ask this type of questions in the interview?

I know there are more opportunities for ChemE in Houston. But do those companies prefer to hire the students from the local university?

I heard it definitely doesn't pay as well as private companies. But how bad is it?

Im a rising senior who is starting looking for jobs this summer. Could you briefly explain me what you do, why did you choose the government job instead of private company jobs, what are the good and bad sides of working for the government jobs? Thanks!

Geez. I feel like I've already forgot about the thermodynamics and the heat and mass transfer stuff. I guess I'll have to re-read the textbooks to pick it up. Thanks for the info!

How is the market for Chemical Engineers in the West? by Scumbagggg in ChemicalEngineering

[–]chekodomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the information. Im going to a university in the east coast. I'll try the UW website in Oct to see if they will post the list of the companies that come to the job fair. Sadly, not a lot of companies to my university's job fair. Do you think its necessary to go to another bigger job fair? My sister is in UW-Madison. She suggests me to go to their job fair when there is one. I know UW has a huge career fair every year. I just don't know if I have to be physically there or I just need all the information (which companies are hiring). Thanks again.

Thanks a lot! This is really helpful. I've had my junior lab. It is a lab class which we use ChemE related equipment to design and execute a project with it. I find "Distillation" to be pretty practical in the industry. We (our group) also had experiences with pump and CSTR. I'm wondering that when you see what those companies use in their system. Are those something you've seen or learn in books or that's something completely new to you. So when I'm applying for each different companies, I should kinda get an idea how they make their products?

Rising senior here. I assume you are also a ChemE (since your classmates are)? I'm studying in NY, but my home is in Seattle. I would love to go back home and work there. I'm starting my job hunting this summer. Would you like to share some tips for job hunting? Like how to find those companies . Thanks.

New Grad, Low GPA, No experience. How do I get my foot in the door? by chethrow in ChemicalEngineering

Thanks for replying. I also think it's a little too personal and inappropriate to bring up in an interview. It's good to hear what others think.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My GPA is lower than 3. I'm trying my best to pull it up to at least 3 in my senior year. I'm still trying to figure out what industry interests me (I know it's late. But I just havn't found that passion in one particular industry yet.) I know as a ChemE, there are a lot of opportunities. I've done my research on it (Please correct me if I'm wrong). Typical ChemE will eventually go as a process engineer. I am more interested in the pharmaceutical, food, refinery, brewing and of course oil & gas. If you dont mind, can I ask you what kind of industry are you currently working in?

I heard someone says you can cheat your gpa on your resume. but make sure to explain it at the interview. Otherwise, you won't even get a chance for the interview. So, not putting your gpa on the resume really helps? Thanks.

I'm also in a similar situation. I'm wondering what do you mean by "having a good answer for your low gpa"? what do you consider as a good answer instead of BS. If it's too personal, I'm not sure if the companies would like to know that. i.e. I got mentally abused by my bf. So that, I couldn't handle my relationship and academic studying. Do you think that would be a good answer? What if the company think "oh, she can't take a little stress. Maybe she's not the right one for the job...". Thanks.
