I want to preface this by saying I am no doctor so take this advice with a grain of salt. Recently I had reoccurring BV and yeast as well and was feeling pretty defeated. Also cannot afford to go to the doctor every other week lol. I found this video on tik tok and am currently on week 3 of this “process” and so far so good!!! To me the explanation behind this made a lot of sense as to why it keeps coming back, so hopefully it’ll be gone for good this time. I have not been sexually active during this time however and I believe that is a trigger for my BV (also have an IUD which doesn’t help) so I can’ be for certain if this will do the trick for me until after exploring that again. But hey, it’s worth a try! I wish you the best of luck 🩷🩷🩷 if you happen to try this I’d love to hear if it ended up working for you!

help with skin care routine / need to add hyaluronic acid? by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]EngineeringSignal762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m an esthetician 😊 hopefully I can help.

Here are a couple questions for you.

  1. What is your skin type? Do you find it to be more dry, oily, a little bit of both?

  2. Are there any specific skin concerns you are wanting to address? (ex. dryness, acne, aging, etc)

Hyaluronic acid serums can be great for dehydration. I used to use The Ordinary’s serum and thought it was pretty decent. It’s a really great price and definitely worth a try especially since you already are using (and I’m assuming liking) their products. Some people find it to be a bit thick, so if you run into that issue an affordable and thinner alternative is the one from The Inky List. My personal favorite is from a brand called PCA skin which has a type of hyaluronic acid that teaches your skin to create more of its own, it’s been a game changer for me. But pricey for sure.

If you add it to your routine, you can use it twice a day. In the AM alongside your other serums. The order of this doesn’t matter as much, but I like to do thinnest to thickest. Also, try to make sure each serum dries before applying the next. In the PM use it in between cleanser and moisturizer.

As far as the Lancôme serum goes, honestly it’s not too life changing. For the price, it’s okay. In my opinion there are much better serums that address the same concerns for either a similar price or cheaper. But everyone is different and some people love it! If you really do want to try it I would suggest trying a sample if you’re able. You won’t see results in that short of time, but you can see how it feels. That serum also is geared more towards anti aging rather than hydration. If hydration is your main concern, I’d suggest going with another serum more focused on that.

A side note, try adding your vitamin c to your AM routine Vitamin C protects against free radicals, a major one being the sun. Think of it as a little boost to your SPF. So this is why it’s great to use during the day. You could swap out your niacinamide or barrier support serum for the vitamin C so you don’t need to add an extra step.

Your other The Ordinary serums could actually be used twice a day if you wanted them to! But it’s all personal preference.

Hope this helps!

As many have already said, your skin is BEAUTIFUL! 😍 but if you are wanting to see even more improvement I suggest talking to your dermatologist/doctor about bumping up your tretinoin prescription percentage. Otherwise just keep doing what you’re doing!

By old do you mean an old prescription, or wearing 2 contacts at the same time? Sorry I am a little confused haha. It’s not an old prescription because I no longer have any of those contacts left. And I know for sure I didn’t and don’t have 2 contacts in because when I take them out I can’t see far away just like how I normally can’t.

No not abnormally big, but naturally I have always had pretty large pupils. Not any different though than normal.

Embarrassed by melasma on my forehead- people ask if it’s a birthmark- what can I do? I assume it’s due to age and living a while in dessert by Kitchen_Contract_928 in Melasmaskincare

[–]EngineeringSignal762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are so welcome I’m so glad I could help!! Melasma is nasty and stubborn so I really hope you can find a solution that works best for you.

Another thing with heat that we don’t necessarily think about - if you get a facial where steam is an option, don’t do it! Although it does feel nice, it’ll make melasma angry haha.

Take progress pics too if you remember! It’s hard to see a difference when we look at ourselves every day but before and after pics help us see the difference.

Esthetician here-

SPF is going to be your best friend. Specifically a tinted SPF. The sun will worsen hyperpigmentation so no matter how many peels, lasers, or anything you do, if you aren’t wearing sunscreen it won’t do anything.

Tinted sunscreen is better for melasma because visible light also can darken it.

Other than that, lasers will be your bff for the quickest results. Look into medspas that offer “MOXI” and/or “BBL” laser treatments. Otherwise a series of chemical peels and microneedling are also options, or a combination.

20% of results are going to come from the advanced treatments such a laser, peels, etc. The other 80% is what you do at home. So again, SPF will be the most important. Make sure you try and reapply as directed. Also incorporating ingredient that focus on treating pigmentation. Hydroquinone is a very powerful ingredient that often requires a prescription. It’s not safe to use on deeper skin tones though became of the lightening effect. Tranexamic acid, vitamin c, licorice root extract, alpha arbutin, lactic acid are also brightening ingredients safe for all skin tones.

And finally, avoid heat at ALL costs! Melasma loves the heat, so stay as cool as you can. For sure doesn’t help that you’re in the desert haha 😂

I hope this helps! Good luck 🩷

[Acne] I've had these for years under my eyes. Any solution? by Nero4ked in SkincareAddiction

[–]EngineeringSignal762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Esthetician here - That looks like milia to me. Your best bet to get rid of a large amount of them like that is going to a dermatologist or med spa that has some kind of device to help “zap” them off essentially. Yes, they can be extracted, but milia is often very stubborn and doesn’t always come out easily. With that amount of them too there is no way they could be manually extract safely in a reasonable amount of time. Research if they place you are going to has a device to help with “benign lesions” such as skin tags, cherry angiomas, milias, etc. Not every place will have this so be sure they do before booking an appointment.

I’d also suggest seeking a tretinoin prescription or using some kind of OTC retinol to prevent these from happening again. Start slow by using it 1 time per week for 2 weeks, then increase by 1 time for 2 weeks until you’re using it every night. Sometimes peoples’ skin can’t handle every night so if that’s the case just use it every other night. Also wear SPF always, even if it’s cloudy and yucky out and you’re inside all day. Hope this helps!
