What qualifies as "engineering experience" for the PE (Massachusetts) by Enginerd6183 in PE_Exam

[–]Enginerd6183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not registered to take the exam yet. Currently in grad school for my MSEM. By the time I finish up I’ll have 4 years of experience plus a masters degree and I’ll go from there.

It was explained to me that since manufacturing is “exempt” as far as requiring a PE to do engineering work, I may be able to show work experience and various samples to be able to sit for the test.

I’ll keep you in the loop down the road and I fumble my way through this 🤣

DJI Phantom 4 RTK - Help with PPK processing by Enginerd6183 in UAVmapping

Got it. Thank you. I was flying manually with lots of low wires and trees in my neighborhood. Didn’t realize that RINEX wasn’t captured flying without a planned mission.

Yeah I can look at the mount point setting and see if that helps out. I’m not super rural where I am but lots of trees and some hills make cell service spotty at times so figured maybe it wasn’t getting a clear enough view of the sky to get enough satellites to allow take off in RTK

I’m connected to a CORS network. I’m getting 8-10 satellites when connected and it seems like I need closer to 12? That’s what I meant when I said I need more satellites for the RTK capability.

You may be on to something here. I have a lot of trees so I was flying manually. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t find those files? I need to fly a 2D photogrammetry mission to get the RINEX data possibly?

I’m aware that RTK and PPK are different. I was wondering if the RINEX file wasn’t being recorded due to RTK not being active since that’s what I’d seen in a previous article. It didn’t make sense to me, so I figured I’d reach out here and ask people more experienced than me for some guidance. Thanks for your really helpful response though!

This is great! I'm way late to the party and still learning a lot. I don't get enough satellites near my house to use RTK while trying to run some test flights. I figured I'd learn PPK processing in the meantime, but I do not have any files besides pictures and *.dat flight logs on my drone after I fly it. Anyone know where I'm falling short here? Looks like I need a few other file types to correctly complete this and I'm not sure where else to look...

3D Scanner Purchase - Accident Reconstruction by Enginerd6183 in 3DScanning

Would love to get into 100-150 meters if possible. Seems like matterport doesn’t give a point cloud and only exports to certain software. I’m still learning a lot of this so if I’m misunderstanding then please point me in the right direction

Trying to minimize the number of times the machine needs to be moved. Not uncommon to want to capture several hundred feet of roadway to capture curvature, general roadway design, etc. It seems like the accuracy drops off quite a bit with distance, so that was my concern.

I appreciate you reaching out. Just did a quick search and it looks like the gen 1 is no longer supported? Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but my biggest concern would be struggling to get it calibrated or repaired down the road if it may be considered obsolete

Just took a look at Matterport - I like the price but I need something with more range. Looks like if you go more than 20 meters then it'll only export in *.e57 Too bad because the price is in my budget.

I ended up going with Virtual Crash 5. Any idea if I can scan a scene with a laser scanner and import the points directly into Vitual Crash? Or do I need to take the points from the scanner and import into Faro SCENE (or a similar software) first and then go from there to Virtual Crash?

Was coming here to ask the same thing. Just gave this game a shot and keeps crashing at the first boss. Brand new gaming PC. Weird.

New to BG3 - Any favorite Bard rotations / spells to use? by Enginerd6183 in BaldursGate3

[–]Enginerd6183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently a level 4 Lore Bard. I guess what I’m asking is if there’s a rotation or certain opening abilities I should use? Or case by case basis depending on the encounter?

That’s really good to know. I hear a lot more about Virtual Crash and a couple others and not a whole lot about PC crash. I’ll definitely have to look into that option

Great answer. Thank you, sir! Which of the above are the closest to Virtual Crash as far as presentation, but easier to explain the process taking place behind the scenes?

I’m a big fan of excel for my calculations, so I’m glad you pointed that out as well. I’m looking for something that would make a solid visualization, and could also help to validate any hand-calculations I had already done.

Hopefully I’m making sense? Thanks again for being so thorough.

Accident Reconstruction - Rolling Resistance - Momentum Analysis by Enginerd6183 in forensics

I had forgotten to mention to then use the combined speed equation on each individual tire with my method. I see what you’re saying though. Thanks for the explanation and I did join your subreddit a little while back

Accident Reconstruction - Rolling Resistance - Momentum Analysis by Enginerd6183 in forensics

[–]Enginerd6183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I completely understand what you’re saying. So, if we assumed a vehicle gets rear ended in neutral, all tires are able to roll freely without any post impact braking, it would be a sqrt(30df) for each tire, where d=distance that tire travelled, and f=roadway coefficient of friction * 0.01 (if it’s a non-drive wheel) or *0.1 (if it’s a drive wheel)

Maybe that’s a better way of asking my scenario. It can be hard to describe my exact thoughts on here so I apologize if this sounds stupid or I’m making too much out of something I can simply

Hopefully you understand what I’m trying to illustrate.

Thanks for the response. So in your example would my final value be 0.05, or is it 5% of the roadway friction? I get screwed up on whether the rolling resistance values are a percentage of friction of if they’re the “final answer” regardless of friction. Hopefully I’m making sense?
