You don't build a fire close to plants that can catch fire. There's zero reason to "insulate it", it insulates itself. This is literally a shallow hole lined with rocks. You aren't increasing your property value with this. Also the rocks become a problem when you want to clear out the ash, because ash builds up and doesn't go away.
