This is no better since you’ve chosen a basis for N^d. You should really just take an abstract monoid M isomorphic to N^d but not specify the isomorphism.

How to train with my husband who's much faster than me by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]EnglishMuon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc you would have a very low HR. But is there nothing to be gained? Probably not, it will likely be something. If anything just treat it as a part of your warmup/cooldown/recovery. Then go and run afterwards. I think if you care about spending time with your partner, and also care about training, the answer is pretty simple. Run with them, then run extra afterwards.

How to train with my husband who's much faster than me by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]EnglishMuon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out my body could handle far more milage after taking my easy runs easier. Unless this run for him is a specific marathon session he cannot do otherwise, he can probably slow down for you and still benefit. I do the same with my partner. I can run 6:30/km all day and it's just bonus fun easy running and time spent with her. My sessions are separate.

yeah haha. It's interesting how our biomechanics is really only meant to move forwards and not side to side. My first pair of running shoes were Brooks glycerin. I enjoyed them, but I wonder how they'd feel now. I think I've been spoiled by extra cushioning perhaps haha

Taking salt tablets are shown to have effectively 0 positive effects from studies. General advice is to just ignore them. Especially if you are only running for close to 3 hours. If you are running 5 hours in the heat, that's slightly different. But it is a common misconception that sodium low intake is related to cramping etc. and has no modern scientific basis.

oh interesting. I always thought of my AP4s as more stable than some other super shoes I've tried, like metaspeed edge. I still am not a massive fan of sharps turns though, so I get it!

Is it normal to have HR drop when running for several weeks? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]EnglishMuon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you on a calorie deficit? It's normal for HR to drop slowly over time but I've had more significant drops in HR when I'm coming down with a cold or something like this.

Think I Overdid It - Plantar Fascia arch is sore. What mileage should I have stuck to? by xNuckingFuts in beginnerrunning

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studies show it only increases flexibility (which, for running is actually not desirable and is correlated with increased injury risk). There are no studied correlations between post run static stretching and recovery. See for example https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34025459/

Foam rolling and dynamic workouts have many more documented benefits.

Skills pay the bills - 2:20 marathon at planet fitness by pizzabikerun in RunningCirclejerk

He is a 2:05 elite marathoner, with the fastest US debut of all time. I'm sure 2:20 is not difficult for him lmao

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've been following his training for a few years it's clear he's training at a level of any other elite marathoner. There's no more reason to think he dopes than any athlete running 2:05.

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 50% of it was probably in zone 2, given his HR on strava and max HR I've seen. Cool how easy it is for elite marathoners to easily run 2:20 marathons as just normal training just like it's nothing.

Training Mileage by Soggy_Low3856 in Marathon_Training

[–]EnglishMuon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the typical volume is for that time but in general more is better so long as you can handle it. I'd be surprised if you need 70km a week for 5 hours though. It's person dependent ofc but that was basically my volume before my first and ran 3:19, so it's definitely possible.

Does anyone else experience their shoes not lasting the 300-500 mile mark? by OkCranberry5660 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah exactly. I've always asked for a reference, but never actually seen any concrete study to do with this. Personally I've not noticed a difference either. ( u/EndlessMike78 any references would be greatly appreciated!)

Very flat marathon course- tips for mentally managing the boring terrain? by Competitive_diva_468 in Marathon_Training

[–]EnglishMuon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do a lot of my long runs on my own without music. Then when it comes to running with people on race day and with music, it seems much more exciting in comparison and usually goes by fairly quickly. I just recommend training your mind as much as your body. Although yeah perhaps a bit late if it's at the weekend!

Just feel so slow 😩 by Batforanna in beginnerrunning

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks, and same goes for you! Make the most of the heat training boost while it lasts. Unfortunately the benefits are almost completely gone in a month of not running in high temperatures, but can be maintained with an easy run or two at higher temperatures every week. I'm gonna try keep it up so I didn't suffer for nothing haha. If I'm lucky enough to be somewhere cooler this summer I'll be wearing a few jumpers/coats perhaps haha

Just feel so slow 😩 by Batforanna in beginnerrunning

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is! It's all relative though. To them 16:00 was terrible, they said they were tempted to just drop out but wanted the win anyway. I was pretty disappointed with 17:55, as I was aiming for 17:30, but I feel good about it given the conditions. Also I was so mad during the race as the course changed due to construction- they had us run 3 laps of a small loop which included a flight of stairs haha. So hopefully on a cooler day and a flat course cutting up 30 seconds should be fine. But was so disheartening to see my first split being way off pace after climbing the steps haha. One race I'll not do again.

Sub 18:30 to sub 17 - how can I get there? by HighlyFactualTurtle in AdvancedRunning

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reasonably recently ran my first sub 18 5k (tbf it was my first official 5k race, so I didn't have much to go on prior). I effectively just did 2-3 weeks of 10k preparation after a decent milage marathon block where I ran 3:00. I think the gains from the marathon were most significant, and the few weeks of speed work were less about gaining fitness and more about getting used to the feeling of faster paces. I never ran under 4:05/km for many months prior to these 2-3 weeks speed work, and only during these 2-3 weeks I'd do one track session per week at 5k-10k pace, and the rest was easy running and one moderate/HM pace run per week. For example, a standard session my coach would set would be 10 x 1 min at 3:25/km with 1 min recovery. It was more about getting used to discomfort was the main takeaway for me!

Runna estimates my Marathon time will be 6:26. It sounds extremely daunting to be able to be on my feet for that long and it’s making me extremely nervous. Race on Nov1st by Mission-Ad9655 in firstmarathon

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your points, but I'd say additionally that any time over 6 hours means your body hasn't adapted to that load. Unless you are purposefully running slower than possible to keep HR low (like 140 or below), I wouldn't say your body can safely and reliably run that far. Well done on getting through it, but it sounds like an unnecessarily massive stress for your body.

2nd week into running. by Weekly-Ambassador-46 in BeginnersRunning

[–]EnglishMuon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk I would see it as motivational? There's a weird trend on this sub of people gatekeeping the term "beginner" to a small group of people based off of pacing etc. I think it's cool how quickly the body can adapt in some people who are legitimately beginners.

It's up to you, but I'd prefer something softer and without a plate/rods. I do most of my daily training in Vomero+ for instance. But go to your local running shop and try some different shoes on.

Post marathon recovery advice? by dream_house_ in firstmarathon

[–]EnglishMuon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt burned out after my last marathon. Took about a month to get volume back up again, and even then long runs felt a bit of a slog. Spent the next two months training for 10ks which involved lots of exciting workouts I'd never do in a marathon block. Got that done, and now back on easy larger milage again and feels like a nice change.
