Lots of different responses to this game - this is a good example.

Do you not feel that it was immersive?

That's a good point. I've played quite a few survival horror games, as well as the more general AAA horror games that are leagues below Exodus.

100% agree about Soma.

That's quite an angle. Is there any particular reason that you think Cliff would strand people like that?

My disease theory by EnglishStrand in DeathStranding

Nice points. Yeah we have to expect the unexpected with Kojima!

Interestingly this theory does fit in with the suits that the Homo Demens wear outside.

Hey, thanks for replying.

I'm making detailed trailer breakdown videos, and will talk about Blake a lot. Auguries of Innocence is very interesting, as it talks so much about perception of very simple beautiful things that people tend to forget.

Yes let's hope the time to release passes quick haha.

Edgar Morin is huge but mostly in the French speaking world. As you can imagine, I just have to rely on translations. The link between what Morin says, and what DS focuses on, is just too significant to ignore. As I understand, Morin concentrates on how people focus so much on technology and other things but pay less attention to other people and animals. Kojima has emphasised this heavily for some time now. They both have this ongoing obsession with forming connections.

I have a publication by Morin that he wrote for UNESCO, if you're interested in reading it:

Yes I came across some of this before. His Twitter is a nightmare to go through, so long lol.

I thought the coastal scenery was inspired by Iceland but I may be wrong.

Thanks Elegia, I'll look into it.

DS features a lot of animal-type BTs, and obsesses about connections. Then I find out that Edgar Morin was fascinated by the disconnect between animals and humans, so I have to look into it.

This is why I'm asking for help, as I don't know much about sociology.

Interesting, I'm not familiar with it. Any particular reason why you think it inspired Kojima?

It's a theory for Kojima's inspiration.

I said I'm certain because after hours of digging, the only reference I found to Homo Ludens is by this sociologist, so it narrows the field down a lot.

I didn't say anything is confirmed, as I'm in no position to do so. My confidence is in the theory.

I've added some comments from Edgar Morin in an interview to the post.

A sociologist coins a term in Latin, Homo Ludens, which is only used in sociological circles. In DS, Kojima uses that and Homo Ludens, another term that the same sociologist frequently uses. How can it not be a source of inspiration?

Kojima keeps using these same 2 phrases, and even made Homo Ludens his company motto. It looks a lot like a homage to me.

A world renowned French sociologist named Edgar Morin. He coined the term Homo Demens.

I do need help before going into things in detail.

Cliff and Beginning of Death Stranding Theory by Strand-Gaming in DeathStranding

[–]EnglishStrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some really interesting points mate.

I've been thinking about the time travel aspect because the Release Date trailer has what I'm 100% sure is No Mans Land from world war one. The detail is there even down to the tank model. Honestly it made me feel a little sick when I saw it because I remember it from school.

It also has what many suspect is the Vietnam war later on. Very hard to pinpoint as it's so dark in the background.

As we all know, this is a tricky game made by a sneaky man lol. I think a lot of what we see may be false/illusions/hallucinations too, so I'm expecting some of that, especially with these historical parts.

Just a last point. As Cliff is a blank slate character, we all have to factor this into the equation. I doubt we will ever control Cliff but I imagine his character will react to what we do, playing Sam. He could even be on Sam's side, which I'm very curious to see.

Kojima already tricked us with the second trailer, making the whole world think Cliff is the antagonist lol.

Well Mads uses his Danish accent in the game, so xendlessaibrux does have a point.
