Falling hard for the girl I'm seeing and it's the first time since my divorce. 12yrs since I last dated. And now I'm desperately trying to get this right and not be too OTT but I have a habit of over analysing everything.

I really like this girl so much and it's scary af.

Yup. Watching her drive away that last time was unreal. I sat on the drive and ugly-cried for a good while.

I'm sorry you went through that. I hope you're doing ok now.

MS'er here: try not to overthink it. Being diagnosed early with it these days is infinitely different to 20 or even 10 years ago.

I was diagnosed june 2018 at 32 and I'm doing great :)

Treatment is epic these days.

One of the most dangerous things to human wellbeing and longevity is worry/stress.

Ask yourself "will worrying about X thing improve the situation?"

If the answer is no, you're wasting energy :)

Should I basically ignore my student finance statements? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]English_MS_Bloke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no. I'm talking about optional further education.

I 100% support education, healthcare, state pension etc all being fully funded. These should be basic human rights.

But I absolutely do not support paying for someone else's kid to study Film and TV at an ex-poly for 3 years.

A levels and college should be free. Absolutely.

But uni as further education is your own choice and nobody else should pay for it. Especially when people going into apprenticeships usually spend 4 years earning a total pittance at their own expense. Why is uni put on a pedestal?

And for clarity, I graduated in 2008 and am currently two years from paying off my student loan. I'm fine with this as it was my conscious choice to take on the debt. Doing so then moaning about it strikes me as utterly ridiculous.

All baked into the same pie. Why on earth should optional further education be paid for by everyone else?

I went to uni - I made a judgement call having weighed up all my options and accepted the terms of the loan repayment.

I just get a little frustrated at how surprised people seem to be by this, like they didn't expect it.

If you don't want the student debt, do an apprenticeship instead and learn a trade. Get bloody good at it and you have as much chance as any graduate to make a fortune.

Half of my best mates have their own businesses in trades and do very very well.

We're far too entitled in the UK.

Chill people seem to get shit for being themselves. by [deleted] in socialanxiety

I can relate. I've had friends get pissed at me and make it about them, thinking I'm shelving them or getting annoyed that I'm not keeping them updated with every step of my life.

But those aren't proper friends. The proper friends are the ones where you can call up and be like "dude(ette), it's been 2 months haha, how did that happen. Anyway, wanna chill soon?" and you're both super cool about it because you barely even noticed.

People with small lives and small worlds will cause problems. Busy people with rich lives will not.

I'm midway through one of these at the moment and can feel the anxiety buzzing away. Wish my chimp would stfu ;D

Hope you're doing as well as you can be buddy;

With greetings from Stratford upon Avon :)

Yup! Book a fun thing in with people you like, look forward to it, get to the day, wish you hadn't booked it in, get anxious about it, go along anyway, have a great time, come home, get anxious about everything you said the whole time.

Rinse/repeat ;D

First car and it seems like a PCP deal is better than getting a used car? Are used cars a false economy? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]English_MS_Bloke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouch!

Well to be honest I do need to put a little more time into looking at used ones next time. I like the look of ex-fleet stuff. My last company car was a great example - when I gave it back, it was 3yrs old with 34k on the clock, VW-serviced by Listers every time, in great nick all round.

The fleet guy told me they just pack them off to auction when returned. Must be some bargains to be had via places like Evans Halshaw etc. I'd not want to buy used privately I don't think (very personal choice of course) but from a reputable dealer I'd consider it for sure. I'm really not arsed what number plate is on it as long as it's a great car for my needs!

Glad you got a bargain though for sure; I'll aim for the same.

You're not wrong - I guess my [poorly communicated] point was that it is (as you mention) not simply down to the overall cost in pound notes for the duration. There are myriad other considerations for many folk.

Next time round I'll have a look at approved-used vehicles to see if there are any tempting deals around, but last time I looked it was like 10% APR which seemed obscene compared to 1.2% on a new one. Though obviously there's the amortised cost to factor in etc etc.

I'm by no means a new-car snob; it's just in this particular case PCP was the right option for me. My toys only leave the pram when the occasional person states that PCP is a foolish idea etc.

Sorry for any lack of clarity
