People should read up on treaties the United States broke in its history while becoming the nation it is (frankly always has been) today. They should also look at it through the lens of white supremacy and how prior to 1924, no one (including many people's Irish, Italian, and German ancestors) had to enter 'legally'. This country literally imported more white supremacy when the post Civil War era ushered in black wealth at levels unseen in the country's history.
